...remember that the battle of TROY lasted around ten years, whereas the film gets though it in around a month. At the start of the film we see the mighty Achilles battle a great warrior called Boagrius summoned by the King of Thessalonia, Triopas, to fight for his lands. With one swing of his sword Achilles wins, allowing Agamemnon (Brian Cox), the king of Greece to take control of Triopas's land and soldiers.

...way to the gates of Troy where they demand the return of Helen. Paris does the honourable thing to stop a war starting between the two nations and agrees to fight one on one with the Spartan King for the hand of Helen but thing go wrong for the nations when Paris looses his bottle during the fight. Will Helen be able to stop a war breaking out or if not just who will win and what will become of Achilles who people believe is un-killable?

Once I had worked all of it out I did find it was easier to follow. The storyline was interesting and for me I found it to be a love story in a way as it was all about a man falling for the wrong woman, in a small sense it was a very old Romeo and Juliet type of story. After saying this please ...

Advantages: For certain audiences, a lot to look at on the screen Disadvantages: Average in too many respects, doesn't live up to expectations
No, wait, that's the start of another epic, or at least almost. This is a very sanitized version of the Iliad, and I give credit, it does say "inspired by" rather than adapted from. Okay, Patroclus was not Achilles' cousin. They had a different, Greek relationship, if you know what I mean. So did many of the Greeks. But you don't get that here. For all the hours of male muscle and flesh one sees on the screen in this epic, you never get even the ... ...on between them. Troy, the big villain in the Iliad, is the one you end up rooting for, because they are very homespun family values, rather than the politically corrupt but sexually correct Greeks, who are only interested in power and domination. Leaving out the sacrifice of Agammemnon's daughter before they set sail was another bowing to family sensibilities. The ending is also rather cleaned up - for the wanton destruction of a city, there is ...

Advantages: Pitt's fluid swordplay, Bana and O'Toole's fine performances Disadvantages: does not hold interest, "epic" battles lack originality
...classical costumes and armour, visually Troy is certainly satisfying. However, as yet another film that openly attempts to earn the title of "epic", it often struggles to reach the status it believes it holds.
Much liberty has been taken with the source material, although the basic story remains. Lovestruck Trojan Prince Paris [Orlando Bloom] steals away the Spartan Queen Helen [Diane Kruger] at a peace summit. Dismaying his noble brother Hector ... ...war between the kingdoms of Troy and Sparta, as Menelaus sends a vast armada including the renowned hero Achilles [Brad Pitt].
The most notable change is the removal of the constant intervention of the Olmypian gods in this tale. This decision to remove the mythological element in its entirity is jarring at first, but still a valid one as it opens up the humanity of the characters. We still see crucial things such as the temple of Apollo, Achilles' ...

Troy was a breath-taking film with a brilliant plot (admittedly based on a legend), amazing characters and some amazing special effects.
==Story==
The story was well written and believable, however, it is based on a historical legend and is not the work of the makers of the film, so while I liked it, I can't give anybody credit for it. The story was also refreshing in that the good guys lost, which is original.

==Special Effects==
Troy had some incredible special effects including some awe-inspiring battle scenes. Some of my favourite special effects moments were:
The Geek fleet sailing
The landing on the Tojan beach
The first assault on Troy
The destruction of Troy
The film was worth watching just for these, it wasn't shy on special effects.

The music was done by James Horner and he certainly did one hell of a job. The ...

Advantages: Everything about this film Disadvantages: I have no quarms
...job has been done on Troy and Kudos to the team behind the screens.
Brad Pitt shows fantastic emotion and moves like a saint in matrix style camera shots with the most convincing graphical images i have seen in a long time.
Orlando Bloom shows true quality with his emotes and the pain i could see in his eyes when he was about to be killed. i cried when he ran to the feet of hector.
Eric Bana Fits the role perfectly and is infallible throughout ... ...swordplay and fantastic choreography. The choice of actors has no faults and i cried more than once in the film, gripping my seat to find out what happened next, even though i knew what was coming.
The film made me wish for a different ending that i knew would never come.
This is the type of film that the director, and actors have put their hearts into, and sweep yours into the watching.
You finish the film in silence as it has touched you. I ...

Advantages: Impressive SFX, Huge Battles, Very Good Storyline Disadvantages: None
I've got to say that I enjoy this film it excellent especially with the epic battle scenes in this film.
The film director (Wolfgang Petersen) has done great in making this film. It a must see to understand what I mean by epic battles.
The films story is mainly based around a great warrior Achilles (Brad Pitt) in the middle of a great war between the Greeks and the Trojans. But as being a Greek himself and wanting his name to be heard for thousand ... ...the last major threat to the growing Greek Empire. As the war unfolds Achilles becomes more personnel involve in the war against Troy. But I'm not going to write too much about the films as it will ruin it for people who have not seen it.
