Advantages: has some action Disadvantages: absolute rubbish
Having picked to see Troy last night I was rather dissapointed. Firstly, cineworld f***ed up and accidently started playing adverts half way through the movie. This was, in fact, the most exciting moment of the evening. But now to my point that it was a rubbish film.
I might point out that I haven't read the poem or the story behind this. I know very little about it's depiction. I'm rating this solely on the movie.
Gladiator was a break through ... ...accurate they can be.
Troy doesn't. To me it doesn't have the same epic feel that Gladiator did. It just seems like "another film". It seems like I've seen all this before and none of it was really pushing things forward, I wasn't left thinking "wow, they did a good job replicating that stadium" or anything like that.
Troy tells the story of the greek army invading Troy and all the battles that followed. The reason for this? That the prince (Paris) ...

When Menelaus finds out, he is quite pissed off (understanbdably), and goes to his brother to ask him to go to war against Troy, in order to save his honour.
Troy is famous for being untakable... Agamemnon accepts to help his brother, not to save his homour, but to conquest Troy, to get even more powerful and respected... With Achilles, ... ...go to war for Agamemnon (that he hates), but just for fame, and to have his name remembered for centuries.
So there they go, and war starts...
I am not going to tell more, because I don't want to give anything away.

☻ Troy – Story ☻
The film Troja plays at a time which is long ago to be exact the whole in 1193 plays itself before Christ.
Troja, the invincible town with its high and unconquerable walls completely lives actually in the luck.
The just King Priamos has two glorious sons, Hektor and Paris.
Actually everything could be quite beautiful, fallen with the wife of the Greek King Menelaos in love for Paris of a day to herself ... ...on its ship.
Hektor isn't filled with enthusiasm by it and wants that Helena is brought back to Sparta but he has underestimated the stubborn person of Paris and his love well because it doesn't want to give up Helena any more.
Must therefore it comes to come like it, of course Menelaos isn't filled with enthusiasm as it gets back where its wife is away and seeks advice with its brother Agamemnon who strives after the throne of Troja already for ...

...film tells the story of Troy which can be summerised as follows. Paris, the younger son of Priam - King of Troy, falls in love with and steals away Helen, the wife of Menalaos. The Greeks led by Agamemnon, brother of Menalaos, launch a thousand ships to claim her back. They beseige the city of Troy and many battles take place between the two forces. The story of Troy is undoubtably a classic story admittedly immortalised by The Iliad. The epic deserves to be portrayed in a grandiose fashion and the director Wolfgang Peterson certainly achieves this.
Another critism, I have heard is that there is too much fighting and battle scenes within the film. The Story of Troy is predominately a story about a war. The film has all the elements of war including the fighting, yes. But also depicted ...

Advantages: a very beautifil film Disadvantages: action and storylines can drag a bit
Troy was definatly the film i was most excited about this year. I first saw the trailers a good 6 months ago, and i am still amazed by the scale of this film.
The Story
Well i dont want to spoil much here, but i get the feeling that anyone who has been to school will have heard how this goes. Its the great love story of the romantic prince who rescues a princess from a unloving husband. That husband then asks the ruler of Greece to lead their armies ... ...balls of fire! Content: Troy is rated 15 in the UK, so watch out for lots of violence, a bit of blood, and lots of Brad Pitt's butt.
So, see Troy if you want strong lead characters, a compelling story and excellent battles scenes. A Real Epic. ...

...epic poem, 'The Iliad', while Troy is not completely true to the poetic story of the ill-fated love affair between Paris of Troy and Helen of Greece, this fault is redemeed by a better-than-fantastic cast of actors. While the storyline falls short of keeping true to the epic narrated in the IIiad, the director deseves greater laurels for making sure that the movie isn't completely focused on Achilles, especially since the character is played by an icon like Pitt.

Although Troy has been criticised I find it difficult to see what all the fuss is about as I thought it was a terrific cinematic experience.
The finely choreographed fight between Achilles and Hector lasts several minutes and every sword strike and shield parry can be seen and heard with exceptional clarity and it’s good to see real actors fighting it out as opposed to pretty boys like Tom Cruise.

...I would also propose that Troy is a decent (if not brilliant) rendering of the subject matter. As other reviewers have mentioned, we would be dissapointed a lot of the time if we went to see adaptations expecting them to be exactly like the book, and I will admit that in my view the similarities were few and far between regarding Troy and the Iliad. The most glaring difference as far as I was concerned was the lack of Gods, characters upon whose actions the book turns.
