In my list of films, this is joint top with the Italian Job (readers gasp with amazement). No, it's not about Trains, it's about life with drugs and what they do to you. If you've read the book, you prabaly won't be as pleased by this film as those that haven't read it. I, however saw the film before reading the book, and thought that it was great. It's about a group of people in Edinborough, some of them are heroin addicts, such as Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor), Spud and Sickboy, Begbie, however is just a psycho who likes nothing better than a few beers, then beating someone up. ...doesn't go into his dole fraud that he makes money from in the book. There isn't really a story as such to follow until towards the end of the film, it's just a bunch of stuff that happens. It's only in the last part that the film follows any traditional structure, with some of the boys deciding to do a big drugs deal and make a lot of money. Fast moving, clever, witty and yet quite depressing, the script of this film is very interesting. it basically charts the demise of drug users and tries to give an insight to the life of drugs. Mikey forrester in trainspotting is Irving Welch who wrote trainspotting. If you have read the book you will notice that a lot of it has been left out in the film. What can I say? I've seen it a few times and probably in some sort of morbid way, fond of this film. The characters seem to be there for you to either love or hate. I found myself pitying them rather than finding them grotesque.
