...the first time i watched top gun i loved the film. The directing is excellent as often you can actually feel as if you are in the planres that they are flying. I used to love this film, Tom Cruise the ultimate cool fighter pilot, the renegade, but the one that saves the day. However, I watched it again recently and had to stop. Why? As my summary of advantages states the film packs in plenty of action from the opening sequences to the closing credits. It includes some incredible dogfight scenes none better than when Pete'Maverick' Mitchell (Tom Cruise) and 'Goose' (Anthony Edwards) go eyeball to eyeball with the pilot of a Russian Mig fighter. Cruise and Edwards also make a surprisingly good comedy duo, with performances ranging from their 'You've lost that loving feeling' ...
...the other pilots. The obvious romance of the film is of the teacher pupil nature between Cruise and McGillis, which follows an on-off course which eventually comes to fruition, but frequently has you wondering if it will. The film is also tinged with tragedy when cruise loses his co-pilot in a lying accident and goes through much soul searching afterwards. Top Gun is my favourite film of all time. It may not be the best film that has ever been made but it is the type of film that I really enjoy watching.
