During the film, we find out why Maverick loves to fly the way that he does but to me this is something that you should find out yourself in the film. To be the best pilot, Maverick does step on a few toes and does upset some of the other students at Top Gun. Top Gun is a great movie. Tom Cruise plays hot shot Maverick perfectly as he oozes with confidence and charisma. Kelly McGillis plays his instructor and love interest excellently. There isn’t much story apart from following the ups and downs of Maverick and his partner Goose. Top gun was the blockbuster of 1986, produced by the ever brilliant Bruckheimer and Simpson combination. If you have seen a Bruckheimer/Simpson production such as "Days Of Thunder" and the more recent "Bad Boys 2" you will know what to expect. Tony Scott's TOP GUN was released in 1986 and is still today the ladies favourite, a movie my dear old mother, who doesn't like movies, will actually sit through until the end, again and again and again, for which I'm very much grateful, but the question is why? Top Gun is one of those movies that excellently portrays the macho, patriotic, slick and arrogant styles of the 1980s that President Ronald Reagan's tough-line policies and patriotic attitudes generated(if your a yank). ...the first time i watched top gun i loved the film. The directing is excellent as often you can actually feel as if you are in the planres that they are flying. I really liked the performance from Cruise in which he portrays Maverick the cocky, arrogant, incredible pilot and he puts in an incredible performance. Top Gun is a good action film that also has it's comic moments. It is definitely the film that launched Tom Cruise's career. Top Gun is one of those films that doesn't ever wear out and that you cannot become sick of watching no matter how many times you watch it. The top 1% of the nation's flyers gather for fighter pilot training. Outstanding maneuvers in the sky. Great soundtrack embellishes the hi-jinks, action and drama. You walk away from this one proud and pumped. This had to be a Godsend to the military recruiters! I can watch this one again and again. Tom Cruise, in probably his best role.
