Advantages: Very god soundtrack, acting and action. Disadvantages: A little slow at times
...I never managed to watch Top Gun all the way. However, after my wife watched a few Star Trek movies with me I felt obliged to sit and watch a movie or two that she wanted to see.

Advantages: Some great action scenes, Looks impressive Disadvantages: The Story is a bit cheesy
...This is one such film. Top Gun has been a favourite of mine for years and although its only a recent addition to my DVD collection, its going to be a well watched addition. It didn’t strike me as my kind of film at first but after watching it for the first time back in the early 90’s I was hooked.
On a regular flight through the Persian Gulf two US pilots encounter a couple of enemy MiGs. The MiGs separate and go after one of the US pilots each. ... ...attend the US Air Forces Top Gun flight school. Top Gun is for the best of the best and for Maverick and his Co-Pilot Goose (Anthony Edwards) it’s a big opportunity. Of course Maverick is trying to life up to the reputation of his Dad who had also attended the Top Gun flight School. The main problem with Maverick though is he is cocky and this makes him dangerous.
Meanwhile out of the cockpit Maverick has fallen for a woman, one of the instructors, ...

...the cheesy whatsit that is TOP GUN.
-----------------------------
Top Gun is a film that's getting on a bit now, but it's still good fun and you can get the DVD version really cheaply now, so get a little bit of film history and enjoy. It's not brilliant but (for a Tom Cruise film) it's pretty close. DVD Extras ----------------
The DVD is feature packed with the film and… that's it! No extras whatsoever! Deal with it. (You'd only get smarmy Tom ... ...start to get the impression that I'm not a big Tom Cruise fan?) The Blurb --------------
The blurb n the back of the DVD is worth a mention since it could be the very worst example of blurb writing in all film history. Read it and weep with laughter. An unintentional must-have. "Kelly McGillis sizzles as a flight instructor who teaches Maverick things you can't learn in a classroom…".. oh boy… The Film -------------

...school is known as the Top Gun. And there, I think, you have the basic ingredients of this film, except, of course, for three more obvious factors you get in all films about brave young pilots, these being the girl, the mystery of the fighter pilot father and the rivalry with another pilot. It turns out that Maverick's dad was a brilliant Navy pilot during the Vietnam era, until he and his plane disappeared in mysterious circumstances, it also turns ... ...in between take place at Top Gun school, where Maverick quickly gets locked into a personal duel with another brilliant pilot, Iceman (Val Kilmer). In one combat after another, the sound track resounds, as the impressive looking planes pursue each other through the clouds, in a rather exciting manner. But the love story between Cruise and McGillis is just completely unconvincing. Cruise and McGillis spend a lot of time exchanging unconvincing looks ...

Top Gun was released in 1986 under the directorship of Tony Scott, who has directed Days of Thunder, Enemy of the state, Crimson Tide and Beverly Hills Cops 2. The Film itself was written by Jim Cash, who also wrote The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas and Secret of My Success. During the film, we find out why Maverick loves to fly the way that he does but to me this is something that you should find out yourself in the film. To be the best pilot, Maverick does step on a few toes and does upset some of the other students at Top Gun. He also loves to do fly bys, causing the head of Air traffic control to spill coffee down him, this happens on ...

Advantages: Great aerial action Disadvantages: hardly any plot
Top Gun is a great movie. Tom Cruise plays hot shot Maverick perfectly as he oozes with confidence and charisma. Kelly McGillis plays his instructor and love interest excellently. There isn’t much story apart from following the ups and downs of Maverick and his partner Goose. It doesn’t matter about the story or lack of one because it is the aerial photography of the fighter aircraft that steal the show. This means it is never dull and the pace is ...

Top gun was the blockbuster of 1986, produced by the ever brilliant Bruckheimer and Simpson combination. If you have seen a Bruckheimer/Simpson production such as "Days Of Thunder" and the more recent "Bad Boys 2" you will know what to expect. A high adrenaline, great casted, special effects extravafanza. Top gun is exactly in this mould and ahead of its time back in '86.
One of the few films that stands out in my head when asked about favourite ... ...places and cry in others. Top gun is one of the gems from the 80's where alot of films tried and failed with this genre. It really is one for the boys and surprisingly one for the girls. The mix of romance and action is blended together excellently. All men will wanna be Cruise and all women McGillis.
The soundtrack is excellent featuring the Oscar Winning song "Take my Breath Away" by Berlin. Full of high octane tunes that get your hearts pumping ...

Advantages: My mother likes this film Disadvantages: There is no plausible reason to like this film
Tony Scott's TOP GUN was released in 1986 and is still today the ladies favourite, a movie my dear old mother, who doesn't like movies, will actually sit through until the end, again and again and again, for which I'm very much grateful, but the question is why?
Maverick is a ravishingly beautiful male pilot, young and eager to please, eager to satisfy. He is the best at what he does. We know nothing whatsoever about his life, but we at least know ... ...possession of a much sought-after Top Gun award, and, age clearly not an issue again, the privilege of remaining at Miramar as an instructor. Thus ensues a display of egos amongst the best (American) pilots in the world who, ultimately, amount to nothing more than a fusion of stereotypes and clichés. At which tiring point a little war breaks out to instil some energy back into my congealing blood and stop me fidgeting in my seat. It isn't clear what ...

Advantages: Excellent film, superb stunts and acting Disadvantages: Might be considered a bit more of a guy's film
Top Gun is set amid the world of fighter pilots, who having been rated amongst the elite are sent to a school to further hone their skills. This school is Top Gun.
Starring Tom Cruise as “Maverick” the film rolls effortlessly along a tale set around Maverick and his adventures in an F-14. One for the guys? It does have fantastic special effects, but contrary to popular opinion there are more emotive moments during the film too.
Along with Cruise ... ...performances. Kelly McGillis, Anthony Edwards, Val Kilmer (who does have a very annoying accent in this film for some reason) and Tom Skerritt feature prominently, and there are decent cameos from Tim Robbins and Meg Ryan (in one of her earliest incarnations of a dizzy blonde). There is also a pretty decent soundtrack (Cruise’s singing excepted).
The film covers a vast range of emotions and topics. Selfishness, ambition, grief and love are shown, ...

...that question was answered and Top Gun was among the first wave of films to be release on "Paramount DVD". It is both a blessing and a curse that this was released so early on. Advantages: good film of old Disadvantages: bit cheesy n places
Top Gun is one of those movies that excellently portrays the macho, patriotic, slick and arrogant styles of the 1980s that President Ronald Reagan's tough-line policies and patriotic attitudes generated(if your a yank). While the acting is a little cheesy, the storyline a little flimsy, and the undertones rather sexist, one of this film's biggest highlights are all the slick cliches. How could any of us forget: "I can see it's dangerous for you- ... ..."Actually I've only done this twice. First one I crashed and burned." "And the second?" "I don't know. I'll tell you tomorrow but it's looking good so far." "I'm holding on to close. I've lost the edge." "You don't own that plane, the taxpayers do! Son, your ego's writing checks your body can't cash!" "I feel the need...the need...for speed!" "You were alot like your old man. Only better...and worse." and the best of all - "yee haar....jester's dead" ...
...the first time i watched top gun i loved the film. The directing is excellent as often you can actually feel as if you are in the planres that they are flying. Top Gun is a good action film that also has it's comic moments. It is definitely the film that launched Tom Cruise's career. Top Gun is one of those films that doesn't ever wear out and that you cannot become sick of watching no matter how many times you watch it. The entire film seems to be centred around Tom Cruise and his career, and how he flies airplanes. The film is very orientated in military and is concentrated on the army bases. I would ...
