Bond .... James Bond

Advantages: stronger female characters
Disadvantages: none

"Bond...James Bond." This phrase has been intoxicating cinema audiences, and Indeed television audiences, since the release of Dr. No in 1962. James Bond films are formula films, each one different with the same basic plot, probably the reason for it's success. Ingredients for a bond movie; fast cars, big guns, evil geniuses and have, of course, 'the Bond Women'. In the earlier films, women were always damsels in distress, can’t protect themselves ...
...important roles, usually just a love interest. Now, in the 21st century, things are beginning to look up. Women are receiving bigger roles more and more, but there are still the sexist jokes that make Bond, well Bond. Jokes such as what Bond says to a parking attendant watching his car (which has a female voice), "Don't let her push you around." In the 'Tomorrow Never Dies', one of the latest films, right away we see the sexist message. M, even though ...

Not another Bond movie

Advantages: good special effects
Disadvantages: it is another Bond movie!

Tomorrow Never Dies is generally a good movie, but it is too repetitive of the previous Bond movies. There is always the same formula to the Bond movies, and this is why Tomorrow Never Dies will be the last Bond movie that I will purposely watch. They are ok as background movies when you have visitors to your house, but as for going to the cinema to watch them, well I don’t! Here is the formula to watch out for in Bond movies. I have used ...
...can be easily applied to Tomorrow Never Dies. The hero (a sphere of action- the good guy) in this narrative is James Bond, as the narrative (story) follows him throughout the movie. Bond does battle with a media mogul; Elliot Carver, who is the villain (another sphere of action- the bad guy), a binary opposite of the hero and has what the hero wants, the princess (what our hero is fighting for). It could be argued that Elliot Carver is based on ...

a dissapointing addition to the series

Advantages: It's a good action flick by most standards
Disadvantages: but it lacks the sparkle of most Bond films

...meal out of the mediocre, Tomorrow Never Dies seems to subscribe to the theory that more can most definetly be less. It is hard to put a finger on exactly what is wrong with the film. Certainly the players all perform more than adequatley, with only Jonathon Pryce overdoing it as the Bond villain Elliot Carver. Interestingly, it is his over enthusiasm for the role that stands out as one of the more watchable elements of the movie – “exactly ...
...was one question this reviewer was frequently asking. And so to the plot. A British warship carrying nuclear warheads is mysteriously sunk near Chinese waters. The Chinese claim the vessel is in fact in their territory, but the GPS signal on board indicates they are some 20 miles from Chinese territory. James Bond is called in to investigate a possible link between the sinking of the H.M.S. Devonshire, and mega-millionaire media baron, Elliot Carver. ...

Shaken, not stirred

Advantages: That car chase
Disadvantages: not the best bond movie

I don't like Bond movies. I never really have. I'm not one of these "Roger Moore was much better than Timothy Dalton". I don't particularly care and haven't seen most the movies. I personally think they show their age quite quickly. But I am a fan of the Pierce films. I like the new Bonds. I believe that Goldeneye is one of the best films ever made. It's certainly the best Bond film ever made to date. Although obviously I can't be sure having not ...
...film was Pierce Brosnan's second appearance as James Bond after Goldeneye. A secret CIA decoder for their GPS satellites is stolen at an arms deal on the border of Russia. Using this device, Elliot Carver sends a British navy ship off course into Chinese territory to provoke a fight between the Chinese and British. They sink the ship and destroy the Chinese fighter planes. The whole story is reported in Carvers newspaper the next day as he launches ...

Bonding with women

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

Bond is back in Tomorrow never Dies. The best Bond since Connery, Pierce Brosnan plays the suave secret agent. The stunts are wild, the women are fast and the baddy is baddy-ish. A British media mogul is bent on holding the world to ransom by creating his own amazing headlines for his news network to broadcast. Bond must infiltrate this organisation using his influence with the media mogul’s wife known from a past affair. BMW is the new Bond motor ...

A very good effort

Advantages: Good storyline, action sequences, acting
Disadvantages: Main villain is a bit unthreatening (although Stamper more than makes up for this)

This will never go down as a James Bond classic, but in my opinion, it is easily one of the best. Pierce Brosnan confirmed his place after two films as the second best Bond behind Sean Connery. This film is good, because it has pace, suspense, a good and even plausible storyline, and most importantly, great action. The storyline is, media mogul Elliot Carver (Jonathan Price) tries to start a war between Britain and China by sinking a British ship ...
...use of his satellites. However, M (Judi Dench) trying to avoid the world war that the Admiral (Geoffrey Palmer) seems set on having, knows about this, and sends James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) to Hamburg to a party. At this party he meets an old girlfriend Paris Carver (Teri Hatcher) now married to the media mogul, in an interesting twist, and then proceeds to wreck the party. There is then a fantastic car chase as he has a car which is remote controlled, ...

Please. No.

Advantages: The start.
Disadvantages: Then gets dull dull dull dull dull.

Do I really have to review this? God its awful, no lair, no decent bad guy, only good bit is the remote controller car bit, and the soundtrack is alright. There is not much more I can say, but i must say 90 words, so here goes. The film is a complete and utter waste of space, there are no real good bits (bar motorbike, car and start bits) and the plot drags on and on. Even Moby hates it. So do yourself a favour and watch Goldeneye again. Its a lot ...

Bond Never Dies

Advantages: A great film
Disadvantages: none

Tomorrow Never Dies is amazing. Pierce is now even more comfortable with the role of sauve agent 007 and has the mannerisms perfect. The actions just keeps getting better in the Bond series and this proves to be highly entertaining. The stunts are incredible and include things that no other film would even attempt like jumping a big BMW motorcycle over a helicopter. But it is such a Bond thing to do. There are plenty of gadgets to keep you entertained ...

Tomorrow Never Dies Special Edition DVD

Advantages: stunning action set pieces, stunning locations, stunning Michelle Yeoh, stunning music by David Arnold
Disadvantages: Carver's henchman needs to have more character, more inhumanity in a comic book way

In the second outing of Pierce Brosnan as 007 we see him battling an insane media mogul (hmm..who was that modelled on I wonder?). The deliciously evil Jonathon Price as Elliot Carver (the media mogul) is setting up international incidents putting superpower vs. superpower. As a fabulous twist on the Cold War scenario we now have stiff upper-lipped Brits dallying with the inscrutable Chinese. From the first fifteen minute stunning title introduction ...
...piece martial arts action with Michelle Yeoh as Wai Lin, Bond’s Chinese counterpart (she definitely gives Brosnan a run and a kick for his money!), Gotz Otto as Stamper (well named) as Carver’s henchman to Teri Hatcher as Paris Carver (Yes Elliot’s wife) who just happened to be a certain 007’s past love interest. Brosnan in the scenes with Hatcher shows how much he has added to the character of Bond, with a real passion, empathy ...

Good Popcorn viewing

Advantages: At the end of the day it's bond
Disadvantages: Trying to start a franchise

For many people the fact that this is bond will be enough to see them part with their money and happily sit down to be entertained and amazed for 2 hours. For others the knowledge that Pierce Brosnan still has the 'double 0' number is persuasive enough (surely the truest and best bond since Sir Sean). For everyone else a good film is required, and in my opinion it delivers. Some of the special effects are a little unbeliveable but there's enough ...
...this. The car fight scene on the ice is one of the best bond scenes in recent memory, and the tour through the gadgets workshop featuring many items from previous films is a nice touch (this is the 20th and provoked many injokes - notable one involving a watch). The film starts off in Korea for Bond's now famous opening title sequence, this involves his ultimate capture and him injuring the lead henchman (Xang). From here we eventually see him released ...

Good but not the best

Advantages: Solid Bond material
Disadvantages: Not really outstanding

Brosnan's second stab at Bond builds nicely on his first outing (Goldeneye) and ends up being a better film, looking more realistic and bringing in a new adversary (away from the cold war and good old SPECTRE). This follows in the vein set by the previous Bond films and you're pretty much on safe ground when it comes to the stunts, set pieces, and effects. The cast are good, the direction tight, and the story works well enough. But it never really ...
...to nothing on (from behind only, pervs) this never really comes to life or stands out from the formulaic Bond style. Of particular not though is product placement as the film's sponsers are EXTREMELY prominent and this may grate on the old nerves after a while. The end result? A routine outing for Bond which is certainly not a disappointment, but doesn't really excel. A nice way to spend a couple of hours but not the best in the series ...

It really cool

Advantages: It fun while it lasts
Disadvantages: It seems to end to soon

Tomorrow Never Dies is a really cool Bond movie and I think it’s even better than the most recent one, The World Is Not Enough. I think it’s better because there is more action in it. I especially like the car park scene with his BMW, which has the best car gadgets yet. I like it more than Goldeneye as well because of the way they use the car more when in Goldeneye he just drives around normally in it. I also like the main badies assistant who is ...

My Names Bond, James Bond

Advantages: Great story
Disadvantages: none

Pierce Brosnan stars as agent 007 in this spectacular film which has everything. This is without the best out of all the bond films. Bond has to prevent Elliott Carver from starting world war 3 with his evil plans. It starts when a british warship is mysteriously destroyed in chinise waters bond investigates and finds out it leads to Carver who is a powerful media baron, who he finds out is using his vast resourses to try and trigger an international ...
...from high speed car chases,Bond flying his airoplanes as well as going sking. Its a film that will leave you gripped until the very end.My favorite part is when bond gets chaced by a helocopter while he is on his motobike with his beautiful chinise agent Wai Lin who is played very well by Michelle Yeah. The film has lots of high tech tactics as usual which are supplyed by Q who is now sadly dead and will be missed in the future bond films. The gadgets ...

bond is never enough

Advantages: creates jobs in the film industry
Disadvantages: same old stuff over and over again

Derring do aplenty as always. Terrible Johnny Foreigner trying to take over the world from foreign parts and brave James Bond has to stop him and stop him good. Give me a break. There is always the subtext that it isn't so much what is done by the bad guy as where he is from. Ever notice that about Bond films? We have Dr. No the evil oriental. Goldfinger who is a British citizen but he's really a German. And what about this? Of course we all know ...
...Terrible isn't it? Imagine large sections of the British media being under the control of one man. Something that was never the case of course before Murdoch (tongue firmly in cheek). I always seem to end up watching these films because I am in someone else's house when they are on. Big budget, special effects laden, all American rubbish is what it would be called if it was a USA not so secret agent. Still, at least it's realistic. I'm sure there ...
