...and rid the town of Tombstone of them once and for all.
With the release of Clint Eastwood's "Unforgiven" in 1992, and a resurgence in the demand for Cowboy movies, it came as no surprise, when in 1993 Tombstone was released, a Hollywood take on the legendary lives of Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. In true Hollywood style, they threw bucket loads of money into the big production and lined up some big names to star. The actual line up is very impressive, ... ...gun fighter, who moved to Tombstone to rest in the warmth which was more amiable to his ill health caused by Tuberculosis. We get to understand the bond between Wyatt and Doc, which is as strong as that between him and his brothers. Then there is the romantic tale between Wyatt and the leading lady from the travelling players, plus the problems which he has with his wife. Last but not least, is the storyline focusing on the brotherly love of the ...

The Cowboys were, in the main, legitimate ranchers with a sideline of rustling. Some of the people who attached themselves to them, such as Bill Brocious and John Ringo were known killers.

...the combination of those three. Tombstone combines two of these three elements, brilliant acting and an interesting script, part mythical and part updated realism. Unfortunately, in the hands of director Cosmatos, this combination produces not magic but, against the odds and Val Kilmer's best acting efforts, a mediocrity. The film begins rather ignoring history. The Tombstone area is controlled by a red scarf-wearing band of 100 outlaws called the ... ...they meet up with Wyatt's long time friend Doc Holiday (Val Kilmer). Wyatt (Kurt Russell) and Virgil (Sam Elliott) are retired lawmen determined to turn their energies towards commerce. But the continued violence of the Cowboys finally drives them back into the arms of the law. The narrative is random but punctuated by brilliant action scenes, rather than constructed of them. In the face of all logic, the focus is constantly on one man and the indignities ...

A great movie, and in my opinion it is a must see for any western fan, the performances are spectacular. Kurt Russell gives a fine performance as the tough no nonsense lawman Wyatt Earp and Val Kilmer is sublime as the loveable rogue Doc Holliday. Set in the town of Tombstone, it follows the Earp brothers as they try to make their way in the "New West". Moving storylines go hand in hand with "rootin' tootin" action, with gunfights, saloon brawls, ...
