Advantages: It's a really upbeat and enjoyable story with a happy ending. Disadvantages: The words and styles are somewhat dated.
...way in a bustling city, Thoroughly Modern Millie is an enchanting tale with plenty of interesting and eccentric characters to keep you intrigued. Millie is determined to get a job as a secretary and then marry her rich boss, but along the way she finds some friends and has some adventures that begin to make her think otherwise.
Although it is supposed to be set in the 1920s and really is quite authentic in this sense, it does get a little bit irritating ... ...can only hear someone say 'terrif' a couple of times before you want to knock them over.
Still, if you can put up with the incessantly optimistic chatter and the over the top dramatics, it's actually a really nice story with some great twists and turns and some fine performances from Julie Andrews and co. ...
