Daniel Day Lewis delivers an absolutely stunning performance in this film and he is ably supported by an excellent supporting cast and a well thought out storyline. The film tells the story of the life of a ruthless oil baron called Daniel Plainview who is played by Lewis, Plainview makes JR Ewing look like a big softie as he is prepared, in fact driven, to crush all those who oppose him and he is quite prepared to use violence to get what he wants. ...

I really don't understand how this got so much praise at all. I would advise you to not only not buy it, but not watch it, i think its a waste of time. ...filmed and produced is genius, there is no dialogue for the first half hour as we learn the nature of Day-Lewis' business (a silver miner who stumbles across some oil), and as the movie progresses we see Day-Lewis become more of a power hungry monster.
