Advantages: Good for a laugh, More of the same for Bottom lovers Disadvantages: Dated, tired and nowhere near as good as Bottom
...me to do this op). The definitive guide to The Young Ones series one. This opinion took about three days to write on and off and has been a real challenge. I hope you enjoy it.
The young Ones was the fore-runner to Bottom and is based on a group of students that never go to lectures and generally spend their days breaking things, fighting, and generally showing the world what the new generation is going to offer when they are let loose on the world.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
The Young Ones was written by Rik, Ade and Ben Elton. A lot of the episodes have several mini plots, that is if there is a plot in the first place. It is just a mish-mash of ideas and sometimes it works, but some cut scenes have no relevance to the story at all.
Although most people will have heard of the Young Ones, here is a quick rundown on the characters: -
Rik. Played by Rik Mayall, Rik ...

Cartoon humour arrived in the BBC 2 post watershed slot back in 1982 and the world was never the same again....
This was in the days of bachelorhood for the dave27 muse and I remember the rumours going around in YOUNG PEOPLE LAND about this mad TV sitcom long before it exploded across our screens. Me and my mates had picked up on Rik Mayall in the crap cult comedy prog, 'A Kick Up The Eighties', when he had made a career out of a Black Country accent ... ...ears when we heard about THE NEW PROJECT.
It was about a bunch of students living in a flat together, together with their grasping landlord, Jerzy Bulowski, played by the man with the tightest suits in showbusiness, Alexei Sayle, but that was about all we knew. I remember a collection of drunken, drugged up, layabout types huddled round a TV waiting for that first episode in hushed awe. But we were just not prepared for what was about to absorb ...

Advantages: Awesome episodes - a classic t.v. sitcom produced to be as the original was Disadvantages: not sharper image, no extras
The Young ones was a sitcom broadcast on BBC two in the 1980's, written by Rik Mayall and Ade Edmunson it is about 4 students who attend 'Scumbag College' North London. Although set in north london it was actually filmed, well most of it actually in Bristol. The four students are called Rik Prick, Neil, Mike, and Vyvyan. Each can be seen to portray teenagers of different decades. Neil as the 1960's Hippy who studies peace studies, Mike as the 1950's ... ...the 1970's Punk rocker (ironically studying to be a Doctor!), and Rik the anarchist studying Socailism. Although through all of the series's not once do we actually see any of them spend any time at thier institution, or working, nor do they actually ever seem to do any work for school what so ever. Except Vyvyan is seen with a severed leg from the morge where he brought it home from one of his classes to write an essay on it. He decides to strap ...

Advantages: Fantastic comedy that with have your sides hurting Disadvantages: There are none - well for me anyway
I grew up with the young Ones (not literally) and was a huge fan, even to the point of going to fancy dress parties dressed up as Vivian, complete with hair spiked up and silver stars on my forehead. I used to watch each episode over and over again until i knew all the words off by heart - sad i know, but this humour really appealed to me.
I now have both series on DVD and even my kids love them, it is classic comedy. Also when you watch them now, ...
