Advantages: Robert Carlyle is an amazing villain Disadvantages: Slightly over the top
Glamour is increasing in the Bond productions, with the special effects and gadgetry associated with Bond, the famous Bond girls being portrayed by models or already well known actresses who are also treated as sex symbols, and Bond himself, here played by Pierce Brosnan for the third time. The new wave of the Bond team has by now set itself into a comfortable slot, and has attracted a good following with the style of filming and characterisation. ... ...another world domination plot.
The Plot
James Bond is sent to find the man who ordered the killing of M's friend, Sir Robert King, British oil tycoon. The assassin was under the employ of Renard, a man who had previously survived an assassination atempt by 009, but was left with a bullet in his head, leaving him impervious to pain. Believing King's daughter, Elektra, to be Renard's intended target, Bond is dispatched to protect her and the oil ...

Advantages: It's a bond film, it has a great plot and some lovely action sequences Disadvantages: none
...fast proving why he was the ideal choice to play superspy James Bond as he enters his third Bond movie in explosive style. James Bond films are all about interesting stories matched to fantastic action sequences and this film is no exception.
The main plot of the movie is based around an evil maniac, played by Robert Carlyle who, thanks to a bullet, is unable to feel any pain. His main aim is to take over the oil business by wreaking the main western ... ...instead. Throw in the daughter of an oil baron, Elektra (played by the lovely Sophie Marceau), who is angry at the fact that a ransom wasn't paid when she was kidnapped and wants revenge on the people who made the decision and another great performance from Robbie Coltraine, who re-afirms his character from Goldeneye and you have a fantastic line up ready for action. From the start this film oozes great action moments, with boat chases past the Millenium ...

Advantages: Range of extras, spectacular stunts, better character development than usual Disadvantages: Not your typical Bond film
...DVD is worth buying for the extras alone. There are a couple of documentaries on there, and a touching tribute to Desmond Llewellyn (Q). There is also the music video for Garbage's title song.
The film itself is not your standard Bond blockbuster, they've obviously tried hard to develop the characters a bit more. Judi Dench in particular is given a much greater part than usual, which is deserved, since she is a fine actress. Pierce Brosnan now fits ... ...Carlyle is excellent as Renard, the bad guy who feels no pain due to a bullet lodged in his brain.
The film starts with perhaps the best of the Bond pre-title sequences, the boat chase up the river Thames. There are numerous other stunts throughout, but these are never to the detriment of the plot. The film shows up well on DVD, and is a must buy for any Bond fan. ...

Advantages: acting Disadvantages: noot up to usual boond quality
Watching the film makes you wonder what really goes in on Bond's head. For the millionth time he has a high-speed ski chase, yet this is no stunt man then close-up of Roger Moore in front of a filmed backdrop situation. Okay, well, it IS, but effects have improved so that it is almost believable that Brosnan is leaping all over the place and stopping four very nice flying bobsleighs. Does he think of his parents, killed in the novels during an avalanche? ... ...and this is very much the now, with a 007 that leaps onto the Millennium Dome with possibly the best title sequence in memory. A herd of Rorsharch ink blot tests fill the screen to a so-so song by Garbage, though sadly there is very little psychology in the film, amateur or otherwise. This pans out into a film that loses its muster ever-so-slightly, but still packs enough involvement to keep the viewer interested. ...

...terrible mistake, seemingly ignorant of the best of its predecessors or the qualities of its competitors, this Bond illustrates that going through the motions is not enough. Lowpoints? The DVD has a 'making of feature' which shows how all the badly spent money was used - its telling that Dame Judi Dench chooses not appear in this and one suspects her continuance in the role of M is a contractual obligation.
Like Star Trek, the Bond franchise should have been laid to rest while some of us still had fond memories of earlier glories. Its still a big draw at the box-office ...

Advantages: GOOD ALL ROUNDER Disadvantages: None as far as I'm concerned
Bond is back... to save the world - AGAIN!! With more special effects and kitsch cliches, this is another action-packed adventure. This movie though, is a sad farewell to Q, otherwise known as Desmond Llewelyn who died in a car accident last year. He is replaced by R, by none-other than Mr Fawlty Towers himself, John Cleese. Robert Carlyle and Robbie Coltrane do their best with some unforgivable foreign accents, whilst two stunning women provide ... ...a whole host of extras, including interviews with the cast, music videos, a tribute to Desmond Llewelyn and lots more to keep even the most hungry Bond fan satisfied. The picture clarity is good, and the sound is well enforced, particularly in bassy parts such as the explosions. Well done. ...

Advantages: Amazing stunts, BMW Z8, excellent performances. Disadvantages: Not much of John Cleese, one-liner really cheesy at end of film!
...19th outing and Brosnan's third.
The World is Not Enough is currently only available on DVD. The story is up to the usual Bond standard, so is the corny one-liners; listen for the one at the end of the film! The film opens with a boat chase down the Thames and onto a breahtaking view of the Millenium Dome. A excellent performance by Robert Caryle as Bond's baddie. The film also introduces us to 'R' (John Cleese) shame though there wasn't a bit more ...

Advantages: lots of extras - the major selling factor of this disc Disadvantages: not exactly the best Bond film you're likely to see
From the start, I'd just like to say that this is one of the best DVDs for special features, making it good value for money, even at the full retail price. However, for me, the film was ultimately disappointing. It is a Bond Films in every sense of the term, but for some reason it seems really flat. You will watch it once, and I guarantee you will like it - but I doubt you'll want to watch it again, it just doesn't have that re-watchable appeal. ... ...20 or so Bond films, the story and action is all too predictable. It's only redeeming factors are the big explosions and chase scenes, which are slightly more imaginative than most Bond films. It would be nice to think that Bond could keep going from strength to strength, and you think it would when you consider the amount of money which goes into the making of each one - but after so many films, it looks like a dying franchise, and this film does ...

Advantages: A solid film with a fantastic supporting host of extras. Disadvantages: Bond theme running a little thin with so many competitors vying for the spy theme.
OK so The World Is Not Enough (TWINE) may not be the best Bond movie in the collection. But it is certainly not the worst. Anyway, if you are reading this the chances are that you have seen the film anyway. So what is the DVD release like?

The soundtrack is equally as impressive, with an additional commentary track included.

Advantages: Decent story and great sound provide a good all round Bond experience Disadvantages: Not the best Bond film made so far
The nineteenth Bond film and the third featuring Piece Brosnan, The World Is Not Enough delivers all the heart pounding action, incredible visual effects, and as for the DVD version, amazing sound that all James Bond fans have come to expect. I have only one gripe with this film: James Bond in a BMW? It doesn'twork, I'm sorry. It has to be Aston Martin.
The film provides nothing groundbreaking as far as the Bond films are concerned, but certainly ... ...that is evident throughout is the aspect of lonliness. It obvious from watching this film what kind of life Bond leads, and the difficult challenges that face him on a daily basis. This has not been so obvious in previous Bond outings, but is also used to great effect in Casino Royale.
The story is classic Bond: eveil villian threatens to take over the world and only James Bond stands in the way of the villian and world domination/destruction. The ...

...bad choice when you're in the mood to turn your brain off and indulge in the usual, totally implausible James Bond spy fantasy. Okay, you know what you're going to get with a newer Bond film. Here's my take on what worked and didn't: The boat chase and ski chase scenes are expertly done and work. Sophie Marceau's exquisite beauty is a definite plus. The radar sunglasses scene is cool. It was good to see John Cleese in the film, but his role wasn't ... ...Q (or Cleese in the future, I suppose) need to do the usual "fill Bond in the gadgets" scene before they are used. During those scenes you can try and predict and anticipate exactly when each gadget will be used. The BMW M3 was screaming for a chase scene with gadget play that we didn't get. A big minus for me. Robbie Coltrane is a great actor but he wasn't convincing as a Russian crime kingpin. The biggest minus? Denise Richards. I don't want to ...
