still not sure if i liked it or not!

Advantages: good if you have no expectations/different
Disadvantages: slow, wrongly advertised

...about except i was under the impression of it being a thriller/horror type film but that was all i really knew about it. I am unfortunately one of those people that if a film doesn't grab me in the first 10 minutes i tend to lose interest, but this one kept me watching in the expectation of 'something happening in a minute' I did lose interest and found my concentration wandering off and i was planning my daily chores. It did start to get more interesting ...
...for her beloved fiancee thru the forest and i felt compelled to watch just to see if she made it. I was suprised by the 'twist' it really wasn't what i expected and it did kind of make sense but in a way, to me it was almost like the people who made the film were as bored as i was and just decided to end it in the most bizarre but quickest way possible! I felt the end was lame and would have been far more interesting if everyone in the village suddenly ...

Dare you enter the woods?

Advantages: Excellent cast, superb acting, suspenseful, beautifully shot.
Disadvantages: Not scary as such.

The Village is the latest offering from director M. Night Shyamalan, who also brought us 'Sixth Sense', 'Signs', and 'Unbreakable'. While I didn't think 'Sixth Sense' lived up to the hype, and 'Unbreakable' was a horror in more ways than one, I was willing to give this a chance because of the fantastic Joaquin Phoenix. And he didn't disappoint! Joaquin stars alongside the up and coming Bryce Dallas Howard as well as more seasoned stars - Adrien ...
...was him until I watched the extra footage! Set in a 19th century community surrounded by woodland, we meet the people who are afraid to leave. Myths passed down from elders, noises in the night, sightings of "those they do not talk about" all result in isolation from civilisation. They must be self-sufficient, something they are very good at until someone is in vital need of medication. Will somebody step into the woods? A lot of people complain ...

Let The Mind Games Begin...

Advantages: Suspenseful, well thought out storyline
Disadvantages: Abrupt ending

...you can probably guess from the title, "The Village" is about a group of people that live in a village, living a life like they were around in Victorian times or earlier.... They don't even have money in their village. The people basically live in what most people would call a cult, where the parents try at all costs to stop their children succumbing to the evil of money and fame. Basically, for the majority of the film, you get into a plot whereby ...
...ones that live in the woods on the other side. The village people hide away whenever "The Others" enter their part of the woods and as far as you know to start with, "The Others" and the people of "The Village" have a mutual agreement not to cross into each others territory, but then one of the village folk becomes more adventurous, he seems to fear nothing except when it concerns his true love, and this causes "The Others" to become angry as he ...

Confusing and ridiculous.

Advantages: Actors, set, period costumes
Disadvantages: Everything else

The storyline to this film is bizare. Basically there is an isolated village which looks to be set a hundred or so years ago, even though the film is set quite recently. The whole village is surrounded by a wood, and everyone in it believes that the wood is filled with terrible creatures who will not allow them to enter. The viewer later finds out that the whole thing is a giant lie made up by some technology hating old people in an attempt to create ...
...a no-fly zone around it. The film also tries, and fails, to perform a temporary 'the creatures are real' twist involving a mentally retarded man stealing one of the costumes and attacking a blind woman. The special effects were hit and miss, the village set and costumes were impressive, but when you saw the creatures for the first time they were quite obviously men in costumes, with their warning to the villagers being red paint on some doors in ...

Village Tour

Advantages: Creepy, Director, Twists
Disadvantages: Drags a bit and showed the truth to soon

Firstly to point out that the hype is made on more of the fact its directed by the brilliant M. Night Shyamalan, who has made 3 of his best films yet, 6th sense, Unbreakable and Signs. Ok This film is living upto those, but bearin mind every director always males a film that steps down the ladder. Despite this this is defantly a M. Night Shyamalan style film and is seen. The second Point I want to make is that it seems this would be better as a 40min ...
...also misleading The third point is that I watched this in pictch black in an empty cinema, well apart from 3 teen who made a noise every five min (giggling) i wasn't botherd by either - Somewhere outside Philadelphia and in middle of woods is a small village that has been disconnected from the outside world, with just a handfull of people, who seems tobe keeping generation going. The main thing is they have a deal with some creatures (Truce with ...

Advantages: Great Acting Original plot.
Disadvantages: "Those we don't speak of"

...is no real introduction to the film or explanation of the period it just starts right off into the setting which is clearly the American wilderness, by the costumes and setting you can see that it is set in the past maybe the late eighteenth century in some sort of farming community, but I am no history buff. Some times when I am really looking forward to watching a film I can be disappointed or let down by it but with the village that wasn’t the ...
...gory horror film but more the type of film where if you have a good imagination you can be scared a bit like the Blair witch project where what you don’t see is more scary than what sometimes in Hollywood is blasted into your face in the most distasteful horror movies. M. Night Shyamalan's The Village

Advantages: Sigourney Weaver isn't bad and the background music is alright
Disadvantages: terrible plot, poor special effects, extremely slow

The Village (2004) Starring: Joaquin Phoenix, Sigourney Weaver, William Hurt, Bryce Dallas Howard Directed By: M. Night Shyamalan The story of a small village community who are unsettled by the unkown woods that surround them. Not bad, just not what you expect

Advantages: Good acting performances
Disadvantages: Victim of its own hype

...think probably because I have the habit of going to see films with a completely open mind, and I somehow only saw the trailer once. The hype behind this film would have you believe that it's something of a horror film, but it's not really scary at all in terms of blood and gore, I just got a bit unsettled by not really knowing what was going on behind the facade of the seemingly quiet 19th century village. There were a few things that, when they ...
...a mile off. I found the references to 'the things we do not speak of' and 'the shed we must not go in' (or whatever it was) a little comical at times, and it is never really explained why you could go near the woods if you were wearing yellow. I think that this is the weakest of Shyamalan's films, but I would still recommend it, as long as you don't go to see it expecting it to be a full-on horror flick. The characters are portrayed as living in ...

The Most Original Film In Years

Advantages: It's a creepy, mysterious film that will leave you guessing until the surprising end.
Disadvantages: May be a little confusing to the un-average film lover.

...already know a little of the shocking twist in The Village? You'll still never guess what happens in the end. The Village is an outstanding pice of work, which became an instant classic. The story is set in a small village surrounded by a forest. It's a quiet, peaceful place, where everyone knows each other's business. It's not all too happy though, as the villagers are terrified of what lurkes in the forest. Rumours have spread of creatures that ...
...as they never cross into the village. So it's a bit of a nuisance then, that one of the younger members of the community does cross into the village, which causes some pretty nasty events. Animals are found in the village dead and skinned, yet the flesh is untouched. Before long, the creatures even make appearances in the village. Nothing much else can be said without giving away the plot's astonishing twist, but The Village is definitly one of ...

Advantages: It was raining outside
Disadvantages: s l o o o o w!

I followed all the hype and went to watch this expecting a cross between Don't Look Now (the Donald Sutherland classic) and The Witch Blair Project. Yellow coats and woods..geddit! Boy was I disappointed. THE PLOT Basically the plot concerns an isolated village in Pennsylvania in which there is a pact between the village people (who's humming YMCA!) and the creatures who live in the surrounding woods: the villagers don't enter the woods and the ...
...for many years but when the pact is broken by someone entering the woods fear engulfs the villagers who dread the consequences of what has been done. All the actors did their best with what they had but the filming was dire as most shots were done on two settings..dark or darker. I didn't give up on the film though and must admit I did jump twice during the movie but I could have had a mate come up behind me and bang two bin lids together at a ...

Surprisingly the heroine of the film is played by somebody who is relatively unknown to me, but she is a very good actress and plays her part very convincingly, practically stealing the scene in some parts. A wonderfully gripping concept

Advantages: A beatiful montage of love and horror
Disadvantages: Somewhat shakily shot at times

Debatably, the film has a great plot, beutiful score and unpredictible twist at the end. However although the filming tequniques were what made it so terrifying, they also caused it to look slightly amaturish at times. Don't be put off by this! On the whole the film was beatifully written and creatively put together to create a unique combination of both love and horror. The inhabitants of the village and the forest are in a constant state of truce, not to cross each others borders, but when a young Lucius Hunt breaks this sacred agreement, the creatures get angry... This Wooden film fails to SCARE

Advantages: The great anticipation of watching a film by the director of some horror classics
Disadvantages: Wheres the scares?

We all saw the chilling film trailer for this long awaited film and as a bit of a scaredy cat I decided to, off the back of this, catch an early afternoon viewing of 'The Village' ..... but I needn't of bothered. Not much is learnt about the main characters ...
