Good afternoon, good evening and good night
Review of The Truman Show (Wide Screen) by jibro

Advantages: Jim Carrey at his best, deep and thought-provoking storyline, excellent dark humour
Disadvantages: Jim Carrey is not everyones cup of tea

...attempt to appeal to us, the general public already seem long ago. Wouldn't it have been better however if they were totally unaware of the cameras as they went about their daily business as usual, that for me would have been more interesting. Hell, lets go one step further, don't confine them to a house, give them a miniture town to live in! That would be cool! Well if you too think this would be cool, then you are in for a treat as this is the basis ... Read review

On With the Show
Review of The Truman Show (Wide Screen) by Soho_Black

Advantages: Some appeal for everyone
Disadvantages: Not real enough to replace reality TV

It's funny how sometimes the smallest things stick in your memory. I can still, all these years on, remember the first time I saw "The Truman Show". It was with my mother and we were at the cinema at Lakeside in West Thurrock. I don't remember the date, or even why we'd gone to Lakeside in the first place, but I remember we decided to see a film on a whim, and this was our eventual choice. I suspect part of the reason I remember is because in ... Read review

The joke is on us. Not Truman.
Review of The Truman Show (Wide Screen) by tehfincheh

Advantages: Impeccable casting. Truly innovative plot and strong writing
Disadvantages: Not for the action junkie.

...his lips when he received the script for 1998's hit reality-drama, The Truman Show. So often cast in wildly unflattering roles, many had forgotten that he could apply himself to a demanding lead requiring more than a series of over-the-top rough and tumble gags. Carrey spent much of the 90's as the prince of Slapstick. If you took the combined IQ of the characters that he portrayed in that time, you'd be struggling to reach double figures. But make ... Trapped on TV!
Review of The Truman Show (Wide Screen) by LIZKEMPO

Advantages: Great Family Film!
Disadvantages: None

The Truman Show 1998, Running Time 103 mins approx, Rating PG The Truman Show is a great film, with a fantastic concept similar to Big Brother; this film involves the concept of Reality TV and soap opera. The Truman Show is based around a 24 hour TV Series called The Truman Show. Truman the star of the show and is the only person in the series who is not an actor. It is a great family show suitable for all ages. It is serious but still fun ... Read review

Faking More Than An Orgasm
Review of The Truman Show (Wide Screen) by hellyphant

Advantages: easy and enjoyable to watch, thought provoking, Jim Carey is actually very very good in it
Disadvantages: The 'actors' are a little too fake and not enough is made of them, the set is a little too bright and obviously fake

...my life in some way. The Truman Show would come under the last category. 3 ½ years ago, I met my boyfriend through cyber space (i.e., over the internet, for all you non-geeky people!) and during our first all-nighter of deep and meaningfuls, the main topic of conversation was The Truman Show. I hadn't seen it or even heard of it at the time, but as Shogar1 described it to me and the theories that both lay behind it and expanded from it, I knew ... Read review

A damn fine film
Review of The Truman Show (Wide Screen) by GR-Design

Advantages: Different to other films
Disadvantages: none

The Truman Show is definitely a movie that is going to stand out in my mind for a long while yet, and one I’m looking to own on DVD. I didn’t expect the film to be as good as it actually was, having heard mostly good reports as opposed to mediocre reports. However I was sceptical that it could be any better than the likes of Edtv, as Jim Carey playing the serious role hasn’t always been his best asset! Look at the cable guy for instance! ... Advantages: Excellent acting, original story, thought provoking.
Disadvantages: ?

...on BBC 1 here in the UK yesterday, 30/12/01 and I had somehow managed to miss this film when it was shown at the cinema. So while it is still fresh in my mind I am going to share my views on this satire. I will apologise now if I have given too much away in this review, although I will try not to and you need to watch the film to appreciate the acting and there are many more details I will have missed! Witless witty
Review of The Truman Show (Wide Screen) by dave27

Advantages: Carrey
Disadvantages: Bland

The world of Truman Burbank is endlessly, ultimately, eternally perfect in every respect - blissfully perfect without a single thing to mar it. And yet somehow he yearns for something more, something else to experience outside of the tedious, unchanging, perfect symmetry. Truman Burbank is Mr Perfect, everybody's friend, Mr Nice. The Prisoner, featuring Patrick McGoohan, some thirty years ago now, was similarly surreal and unchangingly bland and ... Read review

Big Brother World
Review of The Truman Show (Wide Screen) by 3rdRockSatan

Advantages: Original
Disadvantages: Slow

...I write this opinion as the Reality TV craze reaches it’s height, with Survivor and Big Brother 2 competing in the popularity stakes (and Big Brother winning hand’s down) and not forgetting the newly released Series 7: The Contenders taking reality TV to the extreme. However The Truman Show came out in 1998. Reality TV wasn’t really heard of at that time, nobody had an inkling of how nasty Nick was going to be and people were ... Read review

We´re watching you...Truman
Review of The Truman Show (Wide Screen) by MadMax90559

Advantages: Jim Carrey, good story
Disadvantages: none

We are writing the day 10909 of the "Truman-Show". A day like yesterday and the day before for Truman Burbank. Maybe only for him, because... he is not alone! Don´t we know this slogan? Yeah, BigBrother is back! Really? No, the "Trumen-Show" is older than the idea of BB. Today I want to tell something about one of my most favorite film... Trumen Burbank, he is the typical american: He is working for a little insurance company, has his own house, ... Read review

A TRUE HERO
Review of The Truman Show (Wide Screen) by EyesOpen

Advantages: Very deep and insightful
Disadvantages: none

When I first read the plot of this movie, my first reaction to it was an incredulous “..to what ridiculous extent is Hollywood going!” The story seemed to be too incredible and far-fetched to hold any interest for me. But after watching the movie I came out feeling that I had watched one of the most amazing movies of all time. ‘The Truman Show’ is one of the most original and enigmatic movie to have come out of Hollywood ... Truman Show Review
Review of The Truman Show (Wide Screen) by Sheet

Advantages: Serious Film.
Disadvantages: Should Have Made Sequel.

...little or nothing away from the quality of the film. The film critics lapped up the change, but with hardcore Carrey fans, this could have been all but that. Carrey assumes the moniker of Truman Burbank, a happy-go-lucky man, who lives the life of which your average American would. He is happily married to Meryl (Laura Linney). She works at the hospital as a nurse and Truman works as a lawyer. This is all well and good, but you can’t really ... Read review

mother of all big brothers
Review of The Truman Show (Wide Screen) by razmao

Advantages: good story, carey's best film
Disadvantages: none

The Truman Show is a gem of a film. The film was released back in 1998 and stars Jim Carey as Truman Burbank. The moment I saw the film first time I became a fan. The film is not only entertaining and original but it also provokes you to think about how bad the future can get. The basic plot is set around Truman. He has spent almost his entire life in or around a film studio that he calls home. The Truman Show is a film fantasy world version ... Read review

Review of The Truman Show (Wide Screen) by the_fury

Advantages: The situation is gripping.
Disadvantages: There are various pedantic questions that remain unanswered during the movie.

The sudden dawning that one must deal with the real world is a startling fact beknown to most people at a young age. Imagine having this taken away from you. Imagine you don’t have to deal with that at all because someone else is doing it for you.... That’s the current fate of Truman Burbank (Jim Carrey) for the course of his life, he has lived his life out for the cameras....of course, he doesn’t know that. His every waking ... Read review

Review of The Truman Show (Wide Screen) by NottzFan

Advantages: Great storyline
Disadvantages: It all comes to an end , would have like to see more of it or there to be a series of it

The Truman Show (VHS) The bigger big brother The first time I watched this was when my brother came home with it on VHS, and later on that evening we watched it. My brother told me it was a good film. So there was no hesitation to watch it. He was going to get it on DVD but the VHS was cheaper so he went for VHS. My whole family sat down to watch it. We were not let down. This is a family film and anyone will like this. I never heard about it ... Read review
