...Texas Chainsaw Massacre featured in the top ten. I could never really see the big deal to be honest. For me, the original movie has dated considerably and where once we were supposed to be horrified, I could only really be amused. Thirty years later a remake was released upon a dubious cinema audience split between those who believed that the original could not be bettered and those who thought it couldn't be any worse. Personally, I generally despair ... ...simply aren't horrific. Well, with the release of this film, all that changed. Real horror movies are back, and this one is a doozer!
A group of friends takes to the road and decides to travel down to Mexico. It is the middle of summer and as they travel through the fiery temperatures of deepest Texas, they begin to wonder whether it was such a good idea. As they drive along the hazy, dusty roads, tempers flare with the heat and as the friends bicker ...

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre was released back in 1974 gaining outstanding critical acclaim and terrifying audiences everywhere…but I have to be honest and say that I don't understand why. I only saw the original a few years back and I was disappointed. I thought the acting was awful and the film was a mess. I know that it might have been different back in 1974 as nobody had ever seen anything like it before but still…I ... ...and worse but in 2003 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was remade and updated for a new-generation of horror movie goers creating a genuinely terrifying movie that re-invented the series and put the much needed life back into it. Some reviews it earned include:
'Fabulous…A series of heart-stopping shocks' Daily Star
'Absolutely bloody terrifying' Total Film
'Scary movies are back!' Daily Mail

...a film that has possibly the biggest cult following of any horror film? How do you make a film that can beat, or even live up to, the realism, the darkness, the down and dirt style of the original?
I'm not a great horror film fan, I find most of them just ply the same old plot structure and just don't even bother to try and do anything original. They invariably end up falling flat on their face most of the time, trying too hard to scare by shocking ... ...film that tries to scare the viewer by building tension and shocking you with surprise rather than just gore and blood. TCM is pretty much everything I dislike in a horror film, nothing more than hack and slash and teenagers in trouble getting hunted down by a maniac.
So while I will watch pretty much anything on the big screen why would I take the time to watch this on DVD? I'll get to that later!
TCM is set in 1973, 5 young twenty somethings ...

...by millions more, these are the things that endless pub debates are made of. Tobe Hooper’s original version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is generally considered to be a fine example of how to make a good horror movie and it has to be said that in its day, the film was shocking, innovative and genuinely quite horrific. But times move on, and thirty years later it’s time to stand back and let somebody else have a go. Whilst driving through ... ...find themselves in the middle of a nightmare. As their truck emerges from a cloud of wind-swept sand, they narrowly miss a teenage girl, stumbling along the track in a dazed and erratic fashion. Unable to just leave her where they found her, they give the young girl shelter in the back of the track, but her initial distress soon turns to hysteria when she suspects that they are going the wrong way. To their absolute horror, she pulls a concealed ...

So Hallowe'en night, the obligatory somewhat pathetic partying has ended it's about 1o'clock in the morning so decide to put this on and live the Hallowe'en atmosphere. THE STORY

...successful "re-imagining" of Planet Of The Apes, it seems Hollywood is falling over itself to produce as many "new" films using the names of classic ones, but little else. Few of these films have much in common with the original films, aside from an ability to trade off of an already established name. Unfortunately, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is little different.
I suppose I should point out that I'm not particularly a fan of the original film, ... ...ruined it" type rant. The overwhealming feeling I felt through the film was one of sheer boredom. There was absolutely nothing within the film that I hadn't seen elsewhere. The film plays as some mutated hybrid of the original Massacre film and the generic 90s teen slasher films.
The plot itself is simplistic enough, and one that has been done to death by now. A group of teenagers are out in the middle of nowhere, and they get picked off one by ...

...Hitchcock’s 1960 released original. By the start of this review, it may seem that I’m biased towards the remake of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” To be honest, I was looking forward to its release more than I was worrying about its “remake” tag. I honestly didn’t care if the original was remade or not because I figured they would attempt to do it right; but when I heard that Michael Bay would be producing it, my opinion changed. The same man that ... ...its documentary-ish, cheap budgeted look. The feel and soul of the original is, and this should go without saying, not intact as the look is expensive. The grainy atmosphere of the original is also missing with the much larger production values. So I would go as far as to say that this isn’t a remake as much as it is an update of Tobe Hooper’s classic film. With that said, let’s get started with the review.
The plot isn’t painstakingly the same ...

...believe that I dont understand the original, then your wrong. I have seen Tobe Hooper's classic roughly 20 times, and honestly found it so funny it became unbearable. The unblielevable acting made it more of a comedy in my mind and if I had to choose between that and the remake, then im pretty set on the remake.

The remake is genuinly scary and really does keep you on the edge of your seat. The acting is far more believable and special credit has to go to Jessica Biel and R. Lee Ermey for their flawless portrayals of their characters. Biel, with little experience, except for the TV show 7th Heaven, does an incredible job of playing the lead in a remake of an all-time classic, and you really do believe her as a terrified teen (despite ...

...this film before i saw the old version, so my opinion on the older version may not be fair. Although i have seen it.
This film starts off with an old video footage, of the aftermath of the film, then it goes straight into the full colour film with a group of 5 teenagers who are on a long road trip to a concert. The begining of the film is enough to keep you watching as the teenagers are stopped apruptly by a scared girl who commits suicide in their ... ...wondering what has happened to the girl.
Although, already i have made the film seem pointlessly gory, it's not. The scene is done in such a way that the suicide is just enough to shock you. The story is basically revolved around the teenagers trying to find help as they have a dead girl in their van, they end up in a small, dusty town in Texas, which they get trapped in looking for the sheriff.
The sheriff and everyone who comes to their help ...

...years, I've come to regard the slasher film as comedy rather than horror. The rancid dialogue, cheap attempts at thrills, flimsy story, and stock characters have become mostly tiresome. But now, it seems Hollywood has finally found a way to resurrect the slasher film...by remaking it! And while the new version of "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" isn't quite the classic the original is, it is still a solid, terrifying horror film.
The surprising news is ... ...as scary, sometimes scarier, than the original. The film doesn't try to re-invent the story, or complicate it with extraneous details. There are no expansive, soft-focus flashbacks or long, introspective explorations into Leatherface's childhood, or any other attempts to explain his motivation. It simply remains a movie about a group of kids in a van who pick up a mysterious hitchhiker and end up in the backwoods of Texas trying to escape a psychotic ...
