Advantages: Great if you like the Simpsons (obviously), I got it for very cheap Disadvantages: It's not cheap everywhere, has a different feel to later series.
This is, fairly obviously, the DVD of the first TV series of the very popular show, 'The Simpsons'. For those of you who haven't heard of it before, the Simpsons is a cartoon series that has been running since the early 90s, which focuses on one particular family, the Simpsons. It's a great cartoon for children, but also has a lot of jokes in it that only adults will get, making it accessible for all ages of viewers.
On the TV the Simpsons is on ... ...rapidly in recent years. In the mid to late 90s, the Simpsons was the must-see cartoon for children and young teenagers as well as their parents, so it is quite a disappointment to hear that it isn't what it used to be.
And so, that's why I decided to buy the first series on DVD - to see how good it used to be in the beginning, regardless of whether or not it's run out of steam in the past few series. That, and also because I managed to find the ...

The following are the 13 episodes from season 1: Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire - This is the first episode and one of my favorites. Its the one where the simpsons come across Santa's Little Helper. Bart the Genius- Not as good animation as the first episode but still ok. Bart swaps IQ tests with Martin, and gets moves to a special school for the gifted. Homers Odyssey- This is not one of my favorite episodes, Homer gets fired. ...

...this series 1 simpsons from the shop W.h.smith. I buy it for 16 pounds. I was a young person shopping in Uxbridge, running for the greatest DVDs and I saw this one on the shelf to just look like a small family who are made of yellow skin. Aswell as the yellow skin there is another funny appearance that is on this 3 disc set. I won't tell you the funny appearance but I will tell you that the other day I largely watched the simpsons in a certain silly ... ...I enjoyed all of the shows on series 1 : 1. Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire- In the first episode you see how Homer manages to save Christmas with no money to spend, Bart gets a tattoo, Homer goes to the Santa claus school. 2. ...episodes- including all episodes from the first season of the hit american comedy show, is a reasonably good collection.
If you are a real Simpsons fan, you will notice that the way the characters look and the attention to detail is not as great as shown in later seasons- yet with this , you must remember it is only the first season, and it does take time for things to kick off.
The Simpsons season one DVD comes presented in a shiny silver box, ... ...In relation to the other Simpsons seasons, the quantity of episodes are not as great- 13 in total, however, the episodes are really entertaining, and do show the Simpsons in top form.
The Simpsons is the creation of animator Matt Groening, and as the name suggests, is based on the Simpson family, who live in a town named ' Springfield'
The Simpsons are a dysfunctional family, and this adds to the overall humour

Advantages: The start of it all... Disadvantages: Not as good as later seasons
The Simpsons started out life as a cartoon short on the Tracy Ullman show back in 1987. After a couple of years it was successful enough that the started making full length episodes and this is where the simpsons as we know them today started. The animation isn't very good, and the backgrounds were a bit bland, but you could see even back then the show had great potential.
So here we get introduced to the family: Homer, the loveable but clumsy dad, ... ...and Lisa, the brains of the family.
Homer's voice was still a Walter Matthau type low pitch, but that begins to change after this season. The secondary characters were still finding their place as well, the writers didn't know who the audience would like the most so it was very much a trial and error thing.
There are only 13 episodes in this season, but there are a lot of episodes here that shadow things to come, like "Krusty Gets Busted" where ...

Advantages: Hillarious Disadvantages: Only 13 episodes
...course a must! It contains the first 13 episodes ever made of the Simpsons, and since then there have been around 300 episodes! These episodes were first shown on British TV back in the early 90s, and there is a noticeable difference between these and future episodes that are on TV now. The animation is not so crisp, and Homer has a different voice (From Season 2 onwards it was officially changed so he would sound more stupid!) This of course, does ... ...taster of just what all the Simpsons hype of the past decade is all about.
As well as the episodes, there are some great extras, including commercials featuring characters from the Simpsons and commentary on every episode from the creator.
Overall, this DVD is a must buy for any Simpsons fan, and if you have never seen the Simpsons before, then go out and buy this.....You dont know what you have been missing!!! ...

Advantages: The product itself is great: a succint collection of complete series one with everything in one package. Funny. Good commentary Disadvantages: As a program, series one is far worse than later series of Simpsons.
...for Simpsons fans-it contains all the episodes of Season 1, with commentary on all episodes, with relevant production notes and promotional footage, in one set. The box is well decorated in simpsons designs, with lots of information-not just a Simpsons disc (or 3 of them, even) but a whole SImpsons package!
The show itself however is not magnificent. Yes, if you are a fan of the Simpsons like myself, you will want it as it is the basis of the show ... ...craze. A notable differewnce is the realsim of the show and the way real issues and family problems are confronted, featuring many examples of family relations and emotions. By all means have this in your collection, but it is not as good as later series.

When I heard that the Simpsons was coming to dvd I couldn't wait to get my hands on the first one. It is presented on 3 discs in a cardboard wallet type thing (as much as I hate dvds that come in cardboard this one isnt actually that bad). The DVD's contain all 13 of the season 1 episodes, including commentary by Matt Groening and some other people (writers, producers etc.) Special features include some scripts and story boards, there are a few outtakes ... ...including a special documentary on the simpsons t-shirt phenomenon of the early 90s. To be honest, the original episodes weren't all that great as the characters hadn't developed much. Either way this is a must buy and I definately intend to buy the season 2 dvd set when it comes out in june/july this year. ...
