Advantages: Suspensfull psychological horror for any 'confirmed ghost story and horror film addict's Disadvantages: None !
An instant classic, the shining is one of the best adaptations of Stephen King's work. Giving a perfect combination and balance of visceral action and moody suspense scenes, this film truly is disturbing in it's psychotic and psychological nature. Without a doubt every man and woman should have a copy of the dvd tucked away or on full display in their prefered place of storage. The thing which makes the Shining so terrifying however is Jack's portrayal ... ...and suffers from cabin fever. The iconic scene where Jack decimates the door with a fire axe and pokes his head through whilst uttering the words 'here's johnny!' is depicted on the front cover of the dvd and gives viewers a sample of what they can expect to see in the film.
So buy The Shining today!! It's a dvd you'll love 'forever and ever and ever' mwuhaha! ...

Advantages: great story line, well acted, well casted, amazing location Disadvantages: very slow start to the film, loses direction of the book.
The shining presents viewers with the film production of Steven king's book.
The film is set with many great locations such as in the opening scene, the mountanous location shows the slow ominous assent towards the infamous Overlook hotel.
the film captures the true essence of horror, especiall for young Danny, and his encounter with the two twins, daughters of the massachistic former janitor of the overlook, and the escape from the overlook, and ... ...i had imagined, however the film does miss out some key features of the book, such as the explanation of Jack's drink problem and Redrum, or a whole multitude of problems. however, this is the big problem faced with most, if not all, movies adapted from books. on a positive note this flm has a great build up to the final actions of Jack, and his famous "Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere's Jonny". Jack was played especially well by Jack Nicholson, who was ...

Advantages: Worth it just to see jack nicklson at his best. Disadvantages: Let down after reading the book.
I had read the book and wanted to see if the film was close to it,it wasn't.In the book wendy is a strong woman in the film she is so weak it is anoying. The story line is very close to the book and it would have been a great film had they not ruined it with the wrong protral of the characters. It isn't a very scary film more werid than scary and I found I could not keep my eyes on the screen.I am glad that I watched it as it is now a cult classic, but ...

Advantages: Jack Nicholson...need I say more ! Disadvantages: Not as good as the book.
...no fault with this. From the writer Stepen King you are pretty much guarenteed a good film, although I have to say I preferred the book.
Nicholson is always a pleasure to watch, however I found some of the supporting actors rather false, but not enough to spoil it for me. This film terrified me as a child but not the same effect as an adult. I would reccomend this to any first timer. The unforgettable scene of Nicholson axing the door down and saying ...

Advantages: Brilliantly acted and directed. Very believable. Disadvantages: Dont watch it alone.
...I am quite disappointed in the way the books have been turned into film. Usually they digress and sensationalise the plot but in this film it is spot on and captures the atmosphere brilliantly. Jack Nicholson's portrayal is amazing and totally believable. You can feel the hairs on the back of your neck rising with each twist and turn.
The Overlook hotel is exactly as I pictured it when reading the book and I have actually seen a hotel in Cyprus ...

Advantages: Excellent acting performances. Disadvantages: Slightly dull in places.
...become a cult classic over the years. A very scary film in the way it affects the mind although it is very slow to get going. The masterful Direction of kubrick shows in this film as it was written and rewritten again. Stephen King who wrote the book was not happy with this film as he thought it was scary or violent enough, but I and other fans of the film will tend to disagree. Also an excellent supporting actress role from Duvall really helps this ...
