Advantages: A great story on a great disk. Disadvantages: Err, No.
...almost) I love them still. The mythic storyline, the battle between good and evil, it's about as much adventure I could get as a child. Sitting in front of the TV wide-eyed and mesmerised, ahh those were the days of innocence.
Anyway back to the film. This was a major release in Hollywood, one of the first modern fantasy films, in superb Technicolor. The film starts with Sinbad lost at sea in a thick mist. He spies an island through the fog and ... ...a hasty departure they find the man to be a sorcerer who was trying to steal a magic lamp from the Cyclops. He begs Sinbad to return to the island, but is disappointed with Sinbad's refusal. On their return to Baghdad the sorcerer casts a spell on the Princess Parisa, the soon-to-be wife of Sinbad, shrinking her to a tiny size. This has our hero sent on a treacherous mission to save her. This sorcerer's evil plan is to make Sinbad undergo a dangerous ...

Advantages: Enjoyable, colourful fantasy romp. Superb stop motion Disadvantages: None
...opportunity of paying homage to the magnificent Ray Harryhausen who's breathtaking stop motion work is displayed at it's best in this fine adventure movie. This movie along with Jason & the Argonauts and Jack the Giant Killer always used to be on TV at easter or the summer holidays when I was a kid and when I saw what he did that's all I wanted to do for a living. When you bare in mind that every movement is one 24th of a second and the creature ...

An adventure for the ages. Forget that this film was done in 1958, it will still awe the most jaded viewer. This is Ray Harryhausen's very best work. The stop-motion effects are awesome. But, even with all of the eye candy, it's a great story brought to life by fine, serious performances by Kerwin Matthews, Kathryn Grant-Crosby, and especially by Torin Hatcher who has to be the creepiest and most evil villain there is on celluloid - including Darth ...

Advantages: Catch up on your Mythology Disadvantages: Old filming Effects sometimes make it a bit funny
...watch over and over again. The animation isn't up to today's standards maybe, but that gives it it's charm. And considering it was made in 1958 you can't ask for anything more.
The myths and saga's turn these films into a cult movie which I always tend to associate with the holiday periods, Christmas, Easter etc.
Do get this on Video for a perfect lazy Sunday afternoon on the sofa. An older generation, say those of 23 upwards and young kids too, ...
