I have wanted to see the film The Queen since it came out at the cinema. When Dame Helen Mirren won the Oscar for her performance as HRH, it piqued my interest further. In the wake of the tenth anniversary of Diana's death, ITV choose the top time to show the drama depicting the relationship between The Queen and Tony Blair in August 1997. The film is basicaly about Tony Blairs confrontation with the royal family about the way in which affairs of state should be handled.The issue is that of Princess Diana's funeral and how it should be presented to the public. In fact a lot more is at stake, Tony is newly elected and he sees his popularity as being very important to his public image. ...

...a bit sceptical because of the subject matter & the fact that it won Oscars! Helen Mirren was superb in the lead, so much so that by the end I felt as if I was watching the real Queen. It gave a seemingly realistic insight to the workings of the Royal Family and in the end was very sympathetic to the difficult situation in which they found themselves. So to keep the peace I watched it with him. as i've said I am not a royalist or anything but WOW I am very pleased that I did watch it, It was absolutly fantastic. Dame Helen Mirren plays a brilliant part as the queen and she really looks the part too. The film is about the Royals grief after the tragic loss of princess Diana and how they handled things.
