Advantages: Poignant, wonderfully made Disadvantages: A bit sad
The Purple Rose Of Cairo was written and directed by Woody Allen and originally released in 1985. The film (which Allen does not appear in as an actor) is a bittersweet fantasy in the vein of Zelig or Broadway Danny Rose with the plot revolving around a lonely depression era housewife called Cecilia, played by Mia Farrow.
