Advantages: The music is absolutely fantastic! Disadvantages: Story of the Phantom's past is somewhat toned down
...miles around Paris. It is the nineteenth century and this wonderful theatre is frequented by hundreds of people every night looking to be entertained. While the owners count their cash, their changes and refusal to accept the existence of the Phantom who dwells underneath this theatre are causing this ingenious "ghoul" to become increasingly irate, with some devastating consequences.
Imagine no more. Now you can see for yourself! The theatre is ... ...of the cinema, which is a far more accessible, convenient and cheaper form of entertainment. I was lucky enough to see a theatre production of this in Manchester, but I know most have not.
I love Andrew Lloyd Webber's work. I think the man is a genius. Because of this, I was very wary of watching a cinema adaptation of arguably Lloyd-Webber's best piece. Having seen previous adaptations of it, I had been left believing that they simply ruin the ...

...one of my favourite films. the music is fantastic and a beautiful love story with a dark side. This film still gives me goosebumps when I watch it. Although this is a long film it is never boring or slow. It has a fast pace which keeps you entertained. This film is about the phantom falling in love with Christine. He has taught her how to sing while she sleeps. He has her in a trance instantly. Christine is in love with another man and finds the ...

Review of The Phantom Of The Opera (DVD)
Advantages: The attention to detail is impeccable, the scenes beautiful, the casting brilliant. Disadvantages: I wish i could have changed the ending or liked Gerald Butler less.
The film phantom of the opera is a stunning film; it is the perfect mix of romance and horror, action and despair. Gerald Butler, who plays the role of the Phantom in the film, is spectacular. His voice is truly beautiful and you really feel his agony and lament of his tortured childhood and lonely upbringing. But he is also terrifying as the Phantom and you really fear for Christine and Raoul’s lives in his hands. But you also see this human fragile ... ...Emmy Rossum plays the simple chorus girl turned opera star Christine Daae. I very much enjoyed her performance. I thought she brought the right mixture of sexuality but innocence to the film, and she has this underlying goodness that makes her even pity the notorious character that is the Phantom. I do dislike Christine’s character to an extent though; she is a complete tease and leads the poor phantom on. Not that this is Rossum’s fault, just the ...

Advantages: entertaining, shot wonderfully, great music Disadvantages: Not like seeing it live
I have seen the Phanton of the Opera in London and I enjoyed every second, after seeing the film I was impressed. The film captures the spirit and passion of the musical and the scenery is wonderful. The Costumes are incredible, and Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butler both do justice to their roles as Christine Daae and the phantom. Emmy Rossum's voice is amazing and she fits the part perfectly, and although Gerard may not be quite a match to Emmy's voice, ... ...a great passion to the role as you watch him throughout the film. It is interesting to see Jennifer Ellison play her part- and well, and Minni Driver is hilarious in her eccentric role as the demanding diva of the starring theatre's current production. You can't beat the soundtrack either, apart from in the real stage show- "Phantom of the Opera", "All I ask of You", "Point of No Return" and "Angel of Music" are just an example of the brilliant songs ...

...unrequited love that's set in the nineteenth century.
Get the tissues out girls! If you love angst ridden romance, this is the movie for you. The story is about a man horribly deformed who hides in the cellars of a French opera house, known only as the Phantom, a violent ghost who extorts money out of the opera house managers. A young chorus girl called Christine Daae always hears a voice singing to her whenever she falls asleep which she calls ... ...created- one Raoul De Chagny, the patron of the opera house and Christine's childhood love. Jealously and desire drives the Phantom into a rage and he does everything in his power to make Christine his, which means disastrous consequences for the opera house.
The storyline is complimented with enchanting scenery, sumptuous costumes and a dark romantic score, though I suspect girls will like this musical better than boys.
Gerard Butler fans will ...

Advantages: bonus material excellent, love the widescreen gives the film a more proffessional finish, the film is better than the theatre prodution!! Disadvantages: i would have liked to have seen more personal interviews with the actors in the film.
...go out and buy it. The extras are amazing you really get to see behind the scenes and what effort people put into making this adaptation of the theatre production.
For anyone who has not seen this movie they should definitely buy this NOW!!! The extras show you in depth the whole design process, the recording of the lush music and the great premiere of the movie plus alot of commentary from Mr Andrew LLoyd Webber.
135 MINUTES of HEAVEN and that's ... ...does not know the story it is a gothic, dramatic film about a young soprano who attracts the attention of a disfigured deep musical GENIUS played by Gerard Butler (Tomb-raider)and a more boring dull wealthy patron played by Patrick Wilson; don't miss out on this one!!! I think the description given by the Daily Express sums this film up. It is a captivating masterpiece that frightens you, moves you to tears and makes you want to burst into song.
Including three operas and a massive masquerade ball the costumes were a challenge for the designers, but they rose to that challenge and have made exqusite authentic clothing.
The scenery is immense, it draws you into the Phantom's lair as if you were Christine, and ... ...characters make you fall into the world of this film, you are there, taking every single step.
The fantastic musical score adds to this adventure thanks to Lloyd Webbers pure genius at the piano, the songs make you feel included with the film.
Part of the finale in which the chandilier falls is done to perfection, you can see yourself and feel the onlookers fear, and horror as the Phantom is unmasked. Their clever swap between spoken word and sone ...

...favourite musical of all time! The actors voices are truly superb Emmy Rosum at her best! The storyline is on the lines of disfigured musical genious (the phantom) falls in love with a soprano (Christine) who has the most amazing voice ever! This version differs from the original, some of its songs ... ...for stage, but generally all the songs remain the same, some extra words, and some taken away, however there was a few songs removed which i thought were essential to the film. ...am a huge fan of the stage production, and have seen it 7 times so far. The music blows me away every time but this film really gave the story and the music the justice it deserves.
The story does stick to what we have learnt from the stage production, but adds scenes so that we can more fully understand certain aspects of the characters and the story itself.
The direction is fairly simple but makes everything look so magical and of course the ...
