...already knew a few of the songs from this musical, but until recently I'd never seen it. It was while listening to me bawling along to one of the songs during a skype call that my boyfriend commented he also loved the song, and the film . When I said I'd never seen it, we decided that I'd watch it when I visited his house, and I'm glad we did . The movie centres on Christine Daae, the orphaned daughter of a famous violinist, who told her before he ... ...talents . Growing up in the Opera house in Paris, Christine often hears a voice she believes to be this angel coaching her in her singing. Indeed, he coaches her so well that when the current reigning diva storms off in a temper one evening, Christine, a lowly chorus girl, is able to step into the breech, delivering a perfect performance that wins the heart of the audience, and captivates one person in particular - her childhood sweetheart Raoul, ...

Advantages: Breathtaking and captivating. A cinematic feast Disadvantages: None, but the music will remain in your head for some time afterwards!
...see it again even as the credits roll.
Based on the (somewhat confusing, so I'm told) novel by Gaston Leroux, Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical is brought to life once again as you've never seen it before.
Set in the Opéra Populaire in 1870's France, the film focuses on talented young soprano Christine Daaé, the Opéra Populaire's new patron le Vicomte Raoul de Changy and the mysterious Phantom.
Also important is the Prima Donna Carlotta who throws ... ...own way. The Phantom seems intent on ridding the Opéra Populaire of the screeching singer and Carlotta refuses to perform after another of the Phantom's 'hints'.
The Opéra Populaire's new managers, Andre and Firmin, start panicking about who will sing in the show, and up steps a shy, nightingale-voiced Christine from the crowd, whereupon she amazes them with her vocal talent which had been helped along by lessons from the Phantom.
Raoul, a new-comer ...

...as I do Phantom Of the Opera, it's rather hard to see any bad points at all, and when you do you tend to think of them as endearing...
So i'll try to give a balanced opinion. My friend hates musicals. He says they are unrealistic because no one would ever just burst out into song in the middle of their life. Well. If you agree with this opinion then there is little reason for you to continue wiht this reveiw. Go, watch American Idol and laugh at ... ...bother to point out that the setting of THIS musical is an Opera... and where would singing be any more appropriate...??? Oops, so much for that great plan :)
Okay, now to the good stuff. Anyone thinking of buying this DVD isn't likely to be unfamiliar with it so I won't belittle this with a synopsis. You can get that from IMDB.
This is not a movie, it's an experience. The makers of this version did Webber a service by making his stage experience ...

Something all the family can enjoy as it holds a cast of so many well known names, including Gerard Butler (Tomb raider-cradle of life and 300). Minnie Driver (The riches).
It's always good to see a musical that everyone can enjoy and not just your avid theatre goers.
