Advantages: Brilliant Film Disadvantages: Maybe scary for some
The Omen is probably one of the few films I ever found remotely horrifying, not because of people getting their heads chopped off or throwing themselves off buildings, but because of the thought of the devil himself (or his son) living among us. == Synopsis == The Thorn Corporation and family are one of the richest and most influential families in the world Robert Thirn is the newly appointed American Ambassador to The UK. But money can't buy health, ... ...all their money can't stop the baby being still born. Mr Thorn (Robert) can't bear to tell his wife that the baby is dead, so he enters into an agreement with one of the priests at the clinic; they will swap the dead baby with one born at exactly the same time in another room, whose mother was on her own and died during childbirth. What Robert doesn't know is that the priest is actually a disciple of the devil and the boy he has just handed over ...

Advantages: Effectively chilling in places, great score Disadvantages: Poe faced, with a poor performance from Peck
The Omen did very big business in 1976, backed by an chilling marketing campaign, and boasting a top notch cast with the oomphh of a big studio behind it, The Omen cleaned up at the box office. Genre films were not generally big studio productions back in the 70's, rarely featured A-list casts, or big budgets within which to work. Adapted from the bestselling book by David Seltzer, and brought to the screen by Richard Donner, who would later go on ... ...big budget movies, The Omen is a strange beast. It works quite effectively while your brain is switched off, but the minute you try and comprehend the absurdities of the plot, it falls down about you like a pack of cards, becoming risible in the extreme. The cast are all admirably straight faced as they play out this story that tells of the birth of the son of Satan, and how he eventually finds his way to the side of the President of the United States.

Advantages: Tense, clever, no gore for the sake of gore Disadvantages: Someone told me the ending
The story is relatively well known as the film has become a cult classic. It seems to have a strong following and some very dedicated fans. The story is of a boy born on the 6th June at 6am (got it yet?), who turns out to be the anti-Christ, sent here to bring destruction and ultimately the end of the world. He is inadvertently raised by Robert Thorn, a wealthy Politian and his wife. They soon realise that their son is not all that he seems, and ... ...was released in 1976, so the effects and the production are relatively out-dated. Thankfully the story doesn't require large amounts of special effects, so it doesn't really matter that a few scenes are unrealistic. By contrast, other horror movies of around the same era are less frightening now because their monsters are not in the least bit believable (compared to modern CGI techniques). That is the beauty of this film, our monster is just a child, ...

...was born at 6am on the 6th day of the 6th month. The coming of Armageddon, the site of the final confrontation between the forces of good and evil, as foretold in the book of Revelations, will begin with the birth of the son of Satan - in human form.
Unable to tell his wife Katherine (Lee Remick) the tragic news of their stillborn son, American diplomat Robert Thorn (Gregory Peck) accepts a newborn orphan as his son. Details of the child's birth ... ...Thorn slowly becomes aware of the hideous evil behind the child's innocent face and the significance of the number 666, which bring about the most terrifying of revelations."
I bought this movie in the hope that watching it would be a terrifying experience, as recommended by some friends and family. Picture this: I settle myself in the lounge with some suitable movie watching munchies, close all the curtains, turn up the surround sound, and begin ...

...soon became a classic, depicting the birth of the Anti-Christ in the form of a small child. The way the story is written comes across as realistic which gives the movie that extra bit of fear factor.
