Advantages: extra footage, deleted scenes, interviews, seeing the man who wrote most of The Office in the flesh, and having all six episodes of the first series within easy reach! Disadvantages: You might spasm too much with laughing
The Office is the one of the first DVD's I rushed out to get - and one of the only things I am happy to watch time after time. Written in the style of a documentary, it's a comedy with no jokes. The Office is quite simply genius.
Anyone who has ever worked in an office will be able to identify with the characters and situation. Set in a fictional paper merchants in Slough, the whole thing is filmed with cameras constantly present, documentary style. ...

...character when he was on the show, but my overall impression was "fat, racist git". I didn't find him particularly hilarious. When I heard about "The Office", the comedy set in the office of a Slough-based paper merchants, I wasn't particularly interested in ever watching it. Co-written by Gervais and Stephen Marchant, and co-starring Gervais, I just didn't expect much from it.
Then, one night, there was nothing else on tv apart from an episode ...

Advantages: Very original script with good humour Disadvantages: Not many special features on the DVD
The Office is a situation comedy set mainly in the fictional Wernham Hogg Paper Merchant's Office of Slough. Although the program may look like a typical day in a typical office, the sort of things that happen there could not be more surreal or unusual!
The series is done in an unusual style: a fictional documentary crew are filming the so-called typical day-to-day workings of the office to give the inside story of the Paper Merchant trade, and ...

Following hot on the heels of the repeat series on BBC2 comes this fantastic 2 DVD set. If you have not sampled the genius that is David Brent, or are part of the ever dwindling group of people who have only seen one episode, where have you been?
David Brent is the utterly hapless branch manager of a paper merchants in Slough. He attempts to laugh his way through the day, but his humour invariably falls upon deaf ears - watching him try to be 'one ...

Advantages: Brent is dead Disadvantages: Long live the Brent
The first series of The Office was an enormous cult hit originally and soon became THE comedy show of the time, getting a rerun which hoisted it right up there. In fact, so enormous was the show's popularity that the pressure came on for Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant to create a follow up series, and there were significant questions around whether the pair could possibly repeat the success, so quirky and unusual was the concept, and so wonderful ...

...by John Betjeman was arguably the only thing the town was ever famous for, until one man decided to come up with an idea to situate a comedy there. That man was Ricky Gervais, and along with good friend Stephen Merchant, they came up with "The Office", a programme that would soon become a cult showing.
Based around paper merchants Werham Hogg and their Slough branch, this docu-type comedy, which is intentionally meant to be like "real-life" shows ...

Advantages: hilarious Disadvantages: it only has 2 series
...BAFTA award winning comedy is the genius creation of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.
The basic concept of this comedy, is that a film crew is filming an ordinary office whilst they work, however of course we know that its not real, but I must admit when your watching it you do forget that its just a comedy and not a real office.
The main character to this must be David Brent, played by Ricky Gervais he is the boss at the slough paper merchant ...

This review is on the first series of The Office, by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchaant. Or rather, a realistic look at what is currently going on in all office-based companies throughout the country. Cleverly written, it is in fact a comedy based as a documentary that is set in an office. In other words it is not a real life documentary, but rather it is a series that has been based on what potentially could happen in real life. And having worked ...

Advantages: Hilariously funny Disadvantages: Need them to make more series as there is only one
...It is really funny. The head of the office is a sleazy prat. You should watch it." I thought that sounds really dull, no thank you. A few weeks later I was at my mums and she said she'd recorded this programme and how great it was. I laughed out loud all the way through and wished I'd watched it earlier
A BBC production written and directed by Ricky Gervais, comedy award winner and Stephen Merchant. It is refreshing because of it's originality. ...

Advantages: Great British Comedy Disadvantages: none
The Office not only a original but great piece of comedy writing, not only is it very poular in britain but he also made it very very big in America selling way over a million copies. He is also the only British comedy writer/actor to win a golden globe.
The film is set in a paper merchant office in Slough where life is stationery david brent plays a very petty and pompous boss who thinks he is the funniest and most popular man alive with his jokes ...

...boss who actually thinks hes the funniest bloke in the world. This truely shows how much of a sad man David is, his aim is for everybody to like him.
The Office is all about a documentary on what happens in a Slough, paper-merchant office. It really does make you feel like this actually is an documentary - by the way it is filmed and how interviews are given to by the cast.
Tim (Martin Freeman) is a funny and popular bloke with the office, but ...

Advantages: Hours of comedy gold with EXTRA FEATURES Disadvantages: Hours of cringingly embarassing comedy with EXTRA FEATURES
From the first scene you know it's going to be good. This is the office in it's original form, before the jokes got repeated and when you would have to leave the room because it was just too embarrasing to stay in your seat. I challenge anyone to try and watch this all the way through and not once have to either pause it to get your breath back or go into the kitchen to 'make a cup of tea' beacause you just can't handle the pain anymore!
And not ...

The series contains great performances from all the characters, which you will realise are now appearing in some recent and upcoming blockbuster films (Pirates of the Caribbean, upcoming Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy..) This is testament to the fine ensemble cast which was ...
