Set in the late 1700's in South America, The Mission is a powerful tale of a Jesuit priest and a slave driver coming together to protect the native tribes of the jungles there. Starring Robert De Niro and Jeremy Irons who dominant the film, there is moving acting, using emotions rather than words to express the mood of the movie. The film sees Robert De Niro ending his part in capturing slaves for the Europeans plantations and joining ... ...their real inner selves and the goodness of some men.
The impact of the European culture shown in the film is massive and is comparable with the clash of cultures we sometimes see today. A very touching movie it shows the high and lows of human nature. Based on truth it uses the real facts to tell a real story extremely well. The end is very traumatic and would push some to tears. The plot is a masterly vehicle for both leading ... ...current imperialism. Other stars dot the cast list - Aidan Quinn, Ray McAnally, Cherie Lungie and Liam Neeson.
