What is The Matrix ? Its one of the best pieces of Sci Fi Action to hit DVD ever. Neo (Keanu Reeves), leads a dual life, during the day he is a program writer for a respectable software company, at night is the hacker Neo on an endless search for The Matrix. Indeed he does lead a dual life as does all of humanity in this film. AI has grown to such an extent that it has imprisoned the human race to use there bio energy as a power source, The Matrix ... ...their lives. With the aid of Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne), Neo escapes The Matrix and leads the battle against the AI who created The Matrix in the first place. This film has some of the most stunning special effects and action sequences yet to be seen. The 5.1 sound is nothing but stunning as bullets and other sound effects whizz around the room. The DVD also has some superb extras, which include 3 different documentaries. Take the red pill to ...

I heard all the media hype about the matrix and so i wanted to see it for myself .I wasn't expecting much because the media usually really overate the not so good films .I was a bit dissapointed that it was widescreen because it is so much more effective watching a film on full screen .I was amazed by the special effects, they really were outstanding .The shattering of glass looks really realistic on dvd infact most of this fictional film seemed ...

Advantages: The dvd is amazing, as is the film Disadvantages: none really
The Matix is a film of genious. The special effects tht are used in it are pioneering and simulate the Japenese manga animation where the camera spins around a subject while the subject is held in mid-movement. The process is called bullet-time photography, and is amazing. The DVD itself is one of the best on the maket after The Sixth Sense. There are a series of very impressive interviews explaining the best parts of the film and how bullet-time ... ...dark, bluey and very crisp which is a colouring that DVD thrives on.
Episodes 2 & 3 of the Matrix are already up for filming back to back and the first will hopefuly be released in the summer of 2001. A must you have to watch it ...

Advantages: Fantastic film, one of the most feature rich DVD's available. Disadvantages: Some extra computer features will only play on a DVD not a Mac & some DVD decks can't access all the features.
"What is the Matrix?". This is a question that is often asked during the film and once you've seen it you'll know the answer. The Matrix is the most oustanding and engaging science-fiction movie since Blade Runner. I've lost count of the number of times I've watched this film and yet it never fails to absorb my attention completely. There aren't many films that manage to achieve such a perfect balance in terms of story, settings, cast, special effects, ... ...he manages to pull off the unbelievable and keep your attention without even the merest hint of a yawn escaping from your lips. Notable other cast members are Carrie Ann Moss as 'Trinity' in a spectacular big movie break and Laurence Fishburne adding a necessary level of acting weight as 'Morpheus'. And when it comes to bad guys Hugo Weaving is utterly superb as the dead-pan antifical intelligence nemesis of Keanu Reeves character. The DVD has to ...

The Matrix is what DVD is all about. The stunning special effects that went into making The Matrix what it is are really brought to life on DVD. The picture quality is excellent, the storyline is excellent, the acting is excellent. There are also many special features on the DVD, including several interviews with the director and film crew, on how the film was made (very interesting I must add). There is also a nice little featurette which lets you ...

Matrix sows terror and collects the storm! Enormous success in USA and in the world, the second film of brothers Wachowski (after the thriller Bound), feed still the debate on the violence.

The prone of film is pleasant and scaring : imagine that we are only of simple observers in a vast video game. That the reality which surrounds us is virtual, and is produced by a machine, the matrix. To come out a solution of it: to trust supers hackers which only can sabotage the program. This prone is however not original. The fantastic literature, or some movies like Blade Runner, Johnny The Mnemonic... explored ...

Advantages: Good cast and performances, interesting plot with plenty of hooks and action sequences..all spruced up with lashings of sheer panache Disadvantages: hmm..well it's a bit over the top at times..and confused the hell out of me initially (easily done)
...and silly fight sequences..imagine it's the matrix! well don't bother actually, and just get the film - as it's rather good. Keanu Reeves plays a office worker come computer hacker , and Lawrance Fishburne a bespectacled know it all who spends his spare time jumping across skyscrapers and searching for "the one" who will take on the machines (which have gone AWOL) and take general control of the matrix..all the ingredients for a terrible sci-fi cock ... ...hear you ask (unless it's the voices again), well it's a super stylish film, glossy (albeit cheesy) kung-fuey bits, loads of action and pretty interesting characters..such as the scary darey agents with their equally scary roy orbison sunglasses, a suarve soundtrack..all very aesthetic i admit..but it equalled a lot of viewing pleasure..and that's a lot more than i expected from a genre which generally bores the hell out of me (star trek take note). ...

Advantages: It's an amazing film, DVD enhances it so much, and the features are fantastic. Disadvantages: So many features, so little time to use them!
Until the presence of Gladiator in the world, The Matrix was my all time favourite movie, I've seen it countless times and it never gets boring. It's now my second favourite film, and although I have it on video, when I saw it on DVD I just had to have it. I'm not going to bother telling you the storyline etc, it's long and complicated, and if you haven't seen the film, it will spoil it for you. The Matrix on DVD offers a wide range of new and brilliant ... ...minute add on section at the end telling you how some of the special FX were made. It also contains a different mode of watching the film, called "follow the white Rabbit". Basically, this involves you watching the film as normal, but at certain intervals, a little white rabbit pops up in the screens corner, which you click. It then shows a short cut sequence on how and why this was done, and then returns you to the movie. It's a very novel idea, ...

Advantages: Effects - laden film, lots of extras on DVD. Disadvantages: Typical sci-fi action so if you don't like it, steer clear.
Right let's get straight to the point. This is possibly one of the most hyped/talked about films of 1999. There is a very good reason for this. It's good. REALLY good. We follow the life of Neo (Keanu Reeves) who wants to know what the Matrix is. He soon finds himself faced with an awful reality but with amazing consequences. It's Sci-Fi, it's action and beneath it all is an incredibly interesting story. Once again the DVD version of this film is ... ...many extras on the disc to answer the "how did they do that" questions. The "follow the white rabbit" feature on the DVD is very clever. Activate the feature and watch the film as normal. When you see a small picture of a white rabbit on your screen (it's very obvious), press you select button and you are taken to a small feature on how they made that scene. I'm not sure exactly how many of these there are, but it's more than three. This film is ...

Advantages: Good plot, good twists, .. everything brought together as it should have been. Excellent. Disadvantages: The Matrix? It /has/ no disadvantages.
...time, and also how close the film comes to the same script.
Getting back to the film.. if a sequel was done, although I'm sure it would be just as impressive, I'm afraid I don't think it would work. The Matrix is obviously a superb one-off, and was so "special" it would be a shame to follow it up.
As it stands the film has everything. Excellent storyline, actors that really fit the parts and who act out the parts brilliantly, excellent soundtrack ... ...well, and so detailed, the film is a credit to both brothers.
Anyone into SciFi and Technology I'm sure would get something out of this film.
I don't know about the X-Files having the truth out there.. is The Matrix really /so/ much of a far-fetched idea? How long is it before we really get taken over by machines? ...

The Matrix ranks with Fight Club as one of the best movies of recent times. If you like one, you're bound to like the other. In The Matrix the whole illusion of our reality is questioned - only this time it really is an illusion. Like a dark Alice through the Looking glass Neo (Keanu Reeves) plunges through into a desperate reality - where the ultimate question is, can he be the one?
Many religious and philosophical questions abound in this movie, ... ...that will keep you on the edge of your seat. And of course you need to prepare for the second and third Matrix movies currently in the pipe-line. It's a great story, fanastic sound-track - and of course the movie that first brought us those wire-work acrobatic and martial art moves. The story is complex enough that you'll happily watch it again and again and still stay glued to your screen.
This is one movie that has entered in our culture's psyche. ...

Advantages: Reasonable action film Disadvantages: The predictability and Keanu Reeves' acting
The Matrix is a fiarly middling to good film with a generous helping of extras on the DVD, however the hype would potray this as one of the best films ever. It ISN'T! The plot is fairly good but is exceedingly predictable. "Neo" being the "One". Resorting to the use of simple anagrams is not that subtle. The action sequences are good (but I do wish films would stop copying them, as they were not that good!). The story is a tale of an AI gone mad ... ...handled reasonably well. The worse part of te film however has to be the last few scenes. Neo comes ack from the dead (after Trinity says she loves him) and becomes the One. He then sees the Matrix as a computer program and vanquishes on of the agents. The cheese factor of this seen is topped in only one scene in cinema recently. What is this scene that is even more cringe worthy? It is the epilogue scene in the matrix when Neo flies off into the ...

Advantages: Brilliant narrative and excellent fight scenes Disadvantages: keanu reeves still runs a little funny :P
This film is a 'must-see'! The first of the three episodes, but in my opinion, the best. The plot really makes you think about you and your surroundings. Neo, Keanu Reeves, a bored computer programmer stumbles out of his day-to-day life into the 'real' world. Guided by Morpheus, Fishburne, to attempt to show Neo his real abilities and to fulfil his destiny in this parallel world.
