Advantages: It's an amazing film, DVD enhances it so much, and the features are fantastic.

Until the presence of Gladiator in the world, The Matrix was my all time favourite movie, I've seen it countless times and it never gets boring. It's now my second favourite film, and although I have it on video, when I saw it on DVD I just had to have it. Right let's get straight to the point. This is possibly one of the most hyped/talked about films of 1999. There is a very good reason for this. It's good. REALLY good. ...time, and also how close the film comes to the same script. Getting back to the film.. if a sequel was done, although I'm sure it would be just as impressive, I'm afraid I don't think it would work. Since I bought the movie, I watched it 10 times and more. I love it. The specialFX are great and I ve never seen such perfect effects in an other movie. The story is good and you wont get bored. The Matrix is a fiarly middling to good film with a generous helping of extras on the DVD, however the hype would potray this as one of the best films ever. It ISN'T! The plot is fairly good but is exceedingly predictable. "Neo" being the "One". Resorting to the use of simple anagrams is not that subtle. I was badgered into watching the Matrix by my husband, who incidently has watched the film so often he can tell what scene is coming next. i found myself really enjoying the fast action and really great special effects. ...only DVD i have is The Matrix! Yes, many people say it is just a hype and that if you like the MAtrix it is becasue you are following the crowd but I don't care what they say. The film is clever with its use of special effects and some excellent camera work. This does not make a film in itself; you still need some good acting and a storyline, something that is a little thin on the ground in the Matrix. Advantages: Great picture, supurb sound and thoroughly entertaining, if somewhat implausible and flawed in places.
Disadvantages: Keanu Reeves still trying to convince the world that he is hard and not the stoner student Bill but a great actor. Hm.

I love The Matrix, I was blown away in the cinema and I really thought it was a groundbreaking film, but, I really feel that Keanu Reeves lets it down. The very idea of the slight, spaced Keanu being a Kung Fu master is laughable, yet seeing him in "action" is hysterical, all his hits play like a Care Bears movie. ...haven't seen or heard about the matrix, then surely you have been asleep or in a coma for the last few years, purely the most entertaining piece of science fiction to come out of hollywood in the last fifteen years.
