the Matrix, Staring Keanu Reaves as "Neo" and Lawrence Fishburne as "Morphius" is a futuristic action sci-fi. The matrix certificate is a 15. I remember rushing to the cinema to see this, barely noticing the mammoth sized Sean Connery cut-out head that was promoting Entrapment, whilst I stood eagerly in the queue. ...said that Star Wars set the benchmark for Special FX...that is no longer true. The Matrix will spawn a hundred inferior copycat films and (hopefully) 2 sequels of it's own. This is intelligent use of Special FX in a mind-blowing and stunningly original way rather the "for the sake of it" SFX. Lets look at the big picture. You go out, you see a film. You like the film. You go to the store and buy it, thinking you'll watch it again and again. It stays in the cupboard collecting dust. The Matix is a film of genious. The special effects tht are used in it are pioneering and simulate the Japenese manga animation where the camera spins around a subject while the subject is held in mid-movement. The process is called bullet-time photography, and is amazing. The DVD itself is one of the best on the maket after The Sixth Sense. Disadvantages: Some extra computer features will only play on a DVD not a Mac & some DVD decks can't access all the features.
