Advantages: Intelligent, stylish SF for grown ups Disadvantages: Some of the fight scenes go on a wee bit too long
...keep casting muscular dolts with the intellect of a plank in violent revenge fantasies that do little more than ape the "Death Wish" movies. So it's three cheers for The Matrix, the film that restored my faith in SF movies. It starts with a bang, a chase across rooftops with some spectacular leaps that make you realise that wherever you are, it's not the world you live in. Or is it? Neo (or is that Neophyte?) is a programmer by day in a faceless ... ...shadowy figure who may hold the key to Neo's longings for a different world. Morpheus on the other hand is looking for a Saviour, someone who will come and lead the oppressed masses to a new Utopia. Soon their paths cross, and Neo is shown the real world, a world that is not all he thought it to be. In this world everything is run by "The Matrix", a super computer that controls everything and everybody, body and soul. (Or, as the Oracle so succinctly ...

...by night. When Neo meets the infamour Morpheus, a world famous hacker, he gets more than he bargained for. Morpheus shows him is how the world we live in is nothing but a computer program designed to keep our minds active whilst artificial intelligence feeds off of the energy created by human bodies. Morpheus believes Neo is the one who can save the human race, but first he must return to the Matrix to fight the super powerful agents, computer programs ... ...thriller, and then Trinity kicked the guard. But she didn't just kick him - the screen froze, and rotated around her, as she flew up into the sky and kicked him. OK, we thought, special effects, no problem. But then Trinity jumped about 50 feet off a roof, and we knew this was no ordinary film. The Matrix is a sci-fi film that makes sci-fi cool, simply because of the look, feel and clever effects it contains. My 'what is it about' section makes it ...

...Die Hard rocked…American Pie rocked…and The Matrix rocked.
In general, action films go something like this: Good looking hero/heroine has to save world from evil baddie, who often wants to destroy world for no particular reason. The script will have a few witty one liners, most of which the hero will deliver, and the plot won't make any logical sense at all. Stuff will explode, hero will punch a few people in the face, and lots of shooting ... ...will go home satisfied.
The Matrix, however, dresses this routine in a black leather jacket, gives it a couple of Uzi's, and thinks 'right, lets do things exactly the same, but cooler'.

...of a movie that takes the Cyberpunk world described in these works and puts it on the big screen. At the time it was literally impossible and I had discussed the possibilities many times with my friends from FASA directly. Technical limitations made an adequate representation of the core of these worlds impractical. With the rise of computer powered imagery this has changed. The time has come to take viewers into the core of Cyberpunk, into the Matrix. ... ...his debut novel in 1984. The time was right for an edgy thriller set in people’s minds, in a world where humans and computers can melt into one at will, and where the mind alone rules over matter. Highly anticipated, Warner Home Video has been preparing the DVD release of this box office smash hit film for a long time, keeping most details about the disc tightly under wraps for the longest time. Apart from “Titanic”, I can hardly ...

...did. With one of the best story lines ever and a field full of well known actors, the Matrix was sure to be a hit. It was, a big hit, a VERY big hit. And even more so with me. Unfortunately the actors had to train alot and even Keanu doesnt have the skills of the nation but they do very well alongside Laurence Fishbourne.

Advantages: It rocks Disadvantages: You want it to keep going when it finishes
The main advantage of having a DVD over a VHS is that it comes with the extra features. This DVD has tons of them. There are loads of documentaries, bios, storyboards etc. Even the addition of a DVD-ROM special section where you can access the website on the disc, and play a game (which is a quiz to see how well you know the film) Also the picture quality is amazing, with the standard selection of scenes on offer. Another advantage is that the film ...

...two approaches to take to the acting of Keanu Reeves. His detractors, to put it bluntly, say he can’t act. Supporters think he is a good actor with some very bad movies littering his filmography, "Johnny Pneumonic" and "Chain Reaction" being two of them.
I find myself leaning more toward a Keanu supporter. Truly bad actors don’t continually get top-notch projects with large budgets. When he releases a film, I’m wary of its merits because of his ... ...roles.
Larry and Andy Wachowski, the tag team brothers who brought us the great lesbian film noir "Bound," wrote and directed this wild piece of science fiction. The Bible, martial arts, Hong Kong action films, and "Alice in Wonderland" seem to be among the many inspirations of the Wachowski brothers, including many others I did not notice.
"The Matrix" is not an easy film to follow, for sure, but it isn’t too deep or involved either. After you ...

...review, which has to be the Matrix. The first time I watched this film was quite a long time ago but I have seen it over and over and not got bored. There again I am the sort of person that never gets bored of films I really adore.

Advantages: Good quality plot, excellent special effects, great acting and music Disadvantages: Slow to start off with, not suitable for under 15s due to violence
Everything about the Matrix is unbelievable. From the moment you sit down to watch the film, you know that you are in for a treat. Right from the very first scene, the special effects, music, storyline and acting is so compelling that it has you instantly addicted.

Firstly, the special effects. Who hasn't seen the Matrix bit where Neo runs through the air or one of the many sequences with the multi-still cameras? Everybody loves special effects. And these ones are way ahead of their time. Unbelieveably, nearly a year and a half on from the original film's release, no other film has beaten the standard set special-effects wise, even with all the advancements ...

...Hmmmmm. This is the concept of 'the Matrix', taken (as few people are aware) from an old Manga style cartoon (the name eludes me). This is hardly surprising, as the writers and directors, 'the Wachowski brothers' are huge Manga cartoon fans. Straight to the point, 'the Matrix'..........I went to see it on its preview showing......I then returned the following day to see it again, my excuse being that in the famous helicopter scene, the bass bin blew ... ...really use that as the excuse when I returned a third time in as many days.... I just loved it.
To date there has never been a sci-fi film with even half the conceptual genius of this one and lets face it, the only thing thats likely to come close is 'the Matrix 2' (which has all the expectations of 'phantom menace' (which, lets face it, isnt the best sign! but we'll see).
So, what does this movie really have? I hear you ask.... and I answer, 'it ...

Got the Disk from one of my mates, I mean I saw it 3 times in the cinema cos it was bloody fantastic, but hey the DVD even better it got extra, and special documentries which shows how the bullet time special effects were done, furthermore they got interviews with the characters, and shows how Laurence Fishburn and Keanu Reeves trained for the fight scene which are absolutly wicked.
Anyway the story in this film excellent I won't tell you it as ... ...tell you this film is the slickest, coolest, best action fight scenes, cleaver script, and bloody a fantastic film to rember of the millenium. Advantages: The film is excellant, the features are worth the money, so much better than video Disadvantages: Repeat viewings get boring after a while
This is the future! This is simply the best DVD of its time. It beats the video format hands down. The movie is excellant. It makes science fiction cool. The characters and special effects ooze coolness. The storyline is gripping and dynamic, and is very original.
The DVD is more expensive than the video, but the features on the DVD are outstanding. There are simply loads. From subtitles, commentary, no dialogue/just music, documentaries and chapters ... ...in the film and the whole MATRIX website on disc... including art work.... this DVD is massive.
It was well worth the money, and blows the video format out of the water. I recommend it to any fan of the movie.
On the negative side, the movie does try to get philasophical in places, then neglects to answer the question -- is it better to live a lie, then live in the real world? Also the film makes you impatient for the forthcoming sequels.
So speak ...
