Advantages: More ground-stomping, Spielberg-directed dino magic!!! Disadvantages: Not as good as the original (but still fab entertainment)

Following the phenomenal success of the original Jurassic Park movie in 1993, it was inevitable that studio execs began to see dollar signs everywhere and so the sequel to JP - The Lost World (also from a novel penned by Michael Crichton) was green lit and hit the big screen in 1997.
The problem with making a sequel to a film as enormous as the first Jurassic Park movie was that it would be one hell of a tough act to follow... and The Lost ... ...something that had made the original movie so unique - possibly the fact that we had seen it all before to a degree.
Steven Spielberg was back in the director's chair so there was already a sense of continuity. Even though this isn't Spielberg's finest film it must be said that even when Spielberg isn't at his best, he's still better than most directors.

Advantages: Effects are still okay Disadvantages: but they don't show any development, story is a bit weak, especially the ending. There's only so long you can watch people get chased by raptors.

Advantages: Special effects remain top notch Disadvantages: Inferior sequel
Jurassic Park was one of the biggest hits of the nineties both in terms of the novel and the film. Both captured the imagination of the public in a way not seen in this genre since the classic 'man vs monster' films of the seventies. The film was especially helped by a strong cast (with no superstar names) and some superb and state of the art special effects.

The cast end up on this island as Ingen corporation (under new leadership) still want to capture the dinosaurs they've produced and exhibit them in a dino zoo in San Diego. Our heroes (Jeff Goldblum, Julianne Moore and Vince Vaughn) are then blackmailed ...
