The fellowship reunited
Review of The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy (Extended Editions) by david_1967

Advantages: 17 Academy Awards and 247 other awards - say no more
Disadvantages: You may forget to eat!

...out there who have spent the last ten years holed up in a cave without any contact with the outside world then you probably don't know that Tolkien's mammoth book was eventually turned into three mammoth movies. The rest of us are split into two groups - those that probably want the film shown at their funeral and those that want it burned/buried instead of them at their funeral. The box-set contains all three pieces that make up the Lord of the ... Read review

One film to rule them all....
Review of The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy (Extended Editions) by rip_geoff

Advantages: Rarely do films of this calibre come along
Disadvantages: Requires a lot of popcorn!

...that I have not explained the story in detail, and there may be references within that could be considered spoilers. I make no apologies for either of these issues. As great as these films are, in my opinion the books are greater. No-one should sit down to watch these movies without first having read J.R.R. Tolkien's masterpiece. ------------------- "One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness ... Read review

Review of The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy (Extended Editions) by insight2005

Advantages: A new insight into the world of film
Disadvantages: None (Lots of time is needed!)

The Extended editions of the Lord of the Rings (LOTR) films are great for all who are real LOTR fans and those who really enjoyed the films at the cinema. With around two hours of extra footage not seen at the cinema, as well as hours of extra features from the history of Tolkein and his writings to the making of the film, this is a movie lovers dream come true! The Extended versions of the LOTR films comprise of four discs in each set. The first ... Read review

I got the first one 'The Fellowship of the Ring' for christmas one year after vowing not to give into watching The Lord of the Rings films because everyone else was. After I got it I ignored it for months but one day decided I'd have a look, felt a little rude not to. I am very glad i did watch it. Only the best movie, like, ever!
Review of The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy (Extended Editions) by I_only_like_good_movies

Advantages: Everything--virtually perfect!
Disadvantages: it had to end :(

...start out by saying that the extended editions should be the only editions that New Line released. It's unfortunate that some people have only ever seen the theatrical versions--the additional and extended scenes add so much more depth! I love them!) There is so much that one can say about these epic masterpieces that it is hard to decide where to begin. I guess a good place is the beginning. Unless you've lived under a rock the past 6 or 7 ... DVD Extended Trilogy of 'Lord of the Rings'
Review of The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy (Extended Editions) by cocolebrun

Advantages: The most complete version of the story, J.R.R. Tolkein would be very proud.
Disadvantages: None. It is a masterpiece, a true epic.

...for any avid lover of the story of 'Lord of the Rings'. Not only does it include the complete 'Director's Cut' of all three films, but contains a massive amount of behind the scenes extras on the making of the whole complete film. The extended versions give the story a more fluid and comprehensive representation of the original story as written by Tolkein, compared to the original theatrical releases. This is particularly noticeable from the second ... Read review

Peter Jackson does Tolkien proud
Review of The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy (Extended Editions) by Mazzie63

Advantages: BRILLIANT movies
Disadvantages: None whatsoever

I've been waiting for the extended set since the first movie 'Fellowship Of The Ring' came out. Having read the full works from Tolkien over 30 years ago as a schoolchild I had always hoped that one day this would go to film. The first few attempts by the film world to capture Middle Earth was dissapointing to say the least so when these came out I was champing at the bit to see them. The extended versions are what seems to 'make' each movie by filling ... Read review

Quick review of The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy (Extended Editions)
Review of The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy (Extended Editions) by Nickstar69

Excellent conversion from book to film, a timeless classic! I can't get enough of the Lord of the Rings films, Peter Jackson really brought the tale to life. I actually read the book after watching the films & I have to say I prefer the film! I'm do usually prefer the books to films as I never think the films quite capture what you have in your head, but this film certainly did! Two Towers have to be my favourite out of the three, simply for the whole build up to the Return of the King & the magnificent fight scene at the end. Excellen christmas gift for fantasy fans.

A review on Lord of the Rings DVD
Review of The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy (Extended Editions) by delc1234

Advantages: Good cinematic effects, graphics and landscape
Disadvantages: A little too long

...good and evil, Lord of the Rings had outdone many other shows, bagging acclaimed awards and leaving people hungry for more. It is able to blend a kind of fantasy- like orcs and goblins, mages and wizards with a very rustic and ancient setting of Middle East, The Shire, Mordor, and other architectural sets. It leaves us gasping and transfixed in our seats, for every battle, every story stimulates the senses, coupled with good humour and wisdom. This ... Read review

Review of The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy (Extended Editions) by Kittyk8e

Advantages: They're on dvd so you can pause them
Disadvantages: The films are really long therefore you can get uncomfortable watching them

I'd heard of lord of the rings when i was little as my brother used to read them and I wasn't really keen on watching Lord of The Rings until i sat and watched the trilogy when we got it given to us as a christmas present. I really enjoyed them but i don't think i could watch them again as each film is quite long and i can get bored quite quickly. I would definately reccomend it to other people. It's easy to follow for someone who hasn't read the ... Read review
