Advantages: Excellent casting, spot on locations, seamless computer scenes Disadvantages: A couple of scenes added with no real impact on the story
The long awaited second film in the trilogy definitely captivates from start to end and the sense of anticipation from the audience is very palpable.
We rejoin the Fellowship of the Ring after the group has suffered loss and separation. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli race against time to save their friends Merry and Pippin, who have been captured by a roaming party of Orcs. Christmas Outing Review ofThe Lord Of The Rings - The Two Towers DVDby
Doddle
Advantages: Attention holding, exciting, thrilling Disadvantages: No pause button in the cinema
After watching the first Lord of the Rings on DVD in the comfort of our own home it was a must that we went to the big screen to watch Peter Jackson's second film of the trilogy. The film was released just in time for Christmas 2002 and we were all able to go as a family due to the 12A rating. To see this magnificant film on the big screen left us in awe of the whole fantasy story. The story started where the first film had finished, which invites ...

Advantages: A great story line and well acted Disadvantages: Special effects, while the orcs are excellent the Ents are terrible. In some parts it's like seeing a 60's film
...storyline. It carries on from the first flim The Fellowship of the Ring with Sam and Frodo trying to get to the cracks of Mount Doom. This is probably the most boring part of the film and it seems to drag on.
Gollum is created extremely well and the best part of the film is when he talks with his other personality. It is funny but sad at the same. The battle scenes are also excellent and the way that they turn out are quite surprising.
The 30 ...

Advantages: Extremely well produced. Follows the original story well. Disadvantages: Long production. May be confusing to viewers who are not familiar with the story.
This second film in the JRR Tolkien saga was eagerly awaited, and certainly wasn't a disappointment when we finally got to see it a year later.
As with the first film the casting was inspired, the characters have become extremekly lifelike and it would come as no surprise to me if there were children who truly believed that Middle Earth is a real place.
From the terrifying views of Mordor and the Orcs through to the whimsical notion of the Ents ...

Gollum wins the day Review ofThe Lord Of The Rings - The Two Towers DVDby

Advantages: Visually stunning Disadvantages: A little too long but had to be!
The opening sequence of Gandalf the Grey's death is awe inspiring, if you don't three hours to spare it's worth paying to just see that!
The Battle at Helm's Deep is stunning, however, thanks to all the trailers and the hype it will not take you by surprise.
But the prize for greatest character has to go to Gollum. What a joy to watch. Look out for the 'split personality' scene...the CGI work on his face expressions is amazingly realistic.
The ...

Advantages: This was a fantastic movie. I loved it! Disadvantages: The movie was a bit long. Almost 3 hours.
...Time: 2hrs 59min
Synopsis: This was the second part in a series about the struggles of the forces of good and evil in Middle Earth. In particular the viewer follows the story of a Hobbit named Frodo Baggins (played by Elija Wood) that is entrusted with the great responsibility of destroying the great ring of power, thus defeating the enemy Soren. In the first installment 8 companions are selected to create a fellowship to assist Frodo in this monumental ...

Advantages: easier to follow than the book, despite bits being chopped out Disadvantages: Some of the replacements for these bits were a bit, er, cheesy? The Aragorn going over the cliff being one--like its been used in Indy Jones AND Maverick, in virtually the same way--guy turns up safe in the end..
While the acting and directing etc were as good as ever, it is difficult to see this installment as being quite as good as, or bettering the first. I guess a lot of that is because changes to the story were necessary to allow those who had not read the books to follow the tale more easily. The film has to be led by visual clues, whereas in literature, words can be used to explain location, sudden change of emphasis from one character's part in it ...

...to say about one of the most anticipated films this year? At the end of "The Fellowship of the Ring" the 9 main characters making up the fellowship are split into 4 groups; Gandalf (Ian McKellen) aparently lost in the mines, Frodo and Sam heading to Mordor to destroy the ring, Merry and Pippin captured by the Uruk-hai and Legolas, Aragorn and Gimlli chasing after them.
Aragorn and co. are tracking the Orcs when they are met by Theoden's nephew ...

From the acting skills on display in this epic to the obvious five star directing and editing team the third installment of lord of the ring is gonna be one to watch, however for now i'd advise watching this one over and over again.
With the imaginary fairy-tale like story and characters this film truly deserves any credit it has been given. An inspirational film that leaves the viewer (in this case myself) on the very edge of ...

Advantages: its a great film, has its funny points, has its serious points, the actors are great and well chosen by the directors. Disadvantages: it's so long it makes your bum ache, your popcorn and drink run out half-way through the film and you dont want to miss any of it because it's so good.
I found "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" an exciting and exhilarating film, and the special effects just put the icing on the cake. I watched it at the UCI cinema in Norwich, the sound effects were awesome and my ears were ringing by the end of it. The computer effects for the battle were excellent. I found parts of the film funny especially the part where the dwarf was standing behind the wall just before the big battle and says "I could have ...

...open mind. I've seen the first one and enjoyed it hugely, however not being a fan of gore I was warned that this was a bit of a gore-fest. That said I still wanted to see this movie. Saturday night popcorn in hand I got comfy and prepared myself for what promised to be a brilliant film. It starts off from where the last one finished, which was handy although you would benifit from watching the first one again just to remind yourself of the plot. The ...

Advantages: Outstanding cast of characters and storyline, action packed from start to finish Disadvantages: Over 3 hours in length, can be confusing if you have not seen first film
The Two Towers was a great achievement for everyone involved in making the film as I found myself completely engrossed form start to finish. The storyline and landscapes were mesmorising with two or three plots going on at once I found myself continuously on the edge of my seat.
There are very good performances from Viggo Mortensen as the human warrior Aragon, Elijah Wood as Frode Baggins and Sir Ian McKellan as the Wizard Gandalf. The computer ...

Advantages: special effects, soundtrack, action scenes Disadvantages: rather lengthy, some dull moments
LOTR2 - The Two Towers is an immensely enjoyable film. The story takes off just after the end of the last film, and follows the adventures of Frodo and his friends in their quest to return a magical ring to its source - the only place in which it can be destroyed. The film is quite lengthy, at 3 hours, but is so full of action and special effects that the time flies by. The special effects are superb - particularly those used to create a character ...

Add to this some incredible special effects, costumes and acting and you can forgive some deviation from the storyline. Many thanks to Peter Jackson for having the vision to bring to life one of the best stories ever written and for making such a damn good job of it.
I have always felt that Tolkien went into too much detail when writing LOTR, leaving little to the ...
