Advantages: Visually stunning
Disadvantages: A little too long but had to be!

The opening sequence of Gandalf the Grey's death is awe inspiring, if you don't three hours to spare it's worth paying to just see that! The Battle at Helm's Deep is stunning, however, thanks to all the trailers and the hype it will not take you by surprise. But the prize for greatest character has to go to Gollum. Advantages: easier to follow than the book, despite bits being chopped out
Disadvantages: Some of the replacements for these bits were a bit, er, cheesy? The Aragorn going over the cliff being one--like its been used in Indy Jones AND Maverick, in virtually the same way--guy turns up safe in the end..

While the acting and directing etc were as good as ever, it is difficult to see this installment as being quite as good as, or bettering the first. I guess a lot of that is because changes to the story were necessary to allow those who had not read the books to follow the tale more easily. At the end of "The Fellowship of the Ring" the 9 main characters making up the fellowship are split into 4 groups; Gandalf (Ian McKellen) aparently lost in the mines, Frodo and Sam heading to Mordor to destroy the ring, Merry and Pippin captured by the Uruk-hai and Legolas, Aragorn and Gimlli chasing after them. From the acting skills on display in this epic to the obvious five star directing and editing team the third installment of lord of the ring is gonna be one to watch, however for now i'd advise watching this one over and over again. Advantages: its a great film, has its funny points, has its serious points, the actors are great and well chosen by the directors.
Disadvantages: it's so long it makes your bum ache, your popcorn and drink run out half-way through the film and you dont want to miss any of it because it's so good.

I found "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" an exciting and exhilarating film, and the special effects just put the icing on the cake. I watched it at the UCI cinema in Norwich, the sound effects were awesome and my ears were ringing by the end of it. The computer effects for the battle were excellent. The Two Towers was a great achievement for everyone involved in making the film as I found myself completely engrossed form start to finish. The storyline and landscapes were mesmorising with two or three plots going on at once I found myself continuously on the edge of my seat. Disadvantages: Not enough of it, three hours is just too short

...of hacking & slashing for the lads, and lots of damn sexy studmuffins for us girls. Add to this some incredible special effects, costumes and acting and you can forgive some deviation from the storyline. ...and I hadn't even seen the first one, I would recommend watching the first one though, it isn't as good but it helps understand the many characters.
