Worth walking

Advantages: A well told tale
Disadvantages: the very end is different from the book!

The Green Mile is an adaption of the Stephen King book of the same name. What really made the book special was that it was released in 6 installments, so could it work as one film? When I heard that Hanks was to star as Paul Edgecombe I wasn't so sure, but I was wrong to doubt the man. He plays a the head guard on the Green Mile (death row). John Coffey is a huge great man, awaiting his death for the rape and murder of two children. Coffey however ...
...pain and releasing it into the air. Paul gets it in his mind that he could really help someone out using Coffey's gift, and begins to wonder how such a man could possibly have done such an evil thing. The film is well paced and sticks to the book fairly well (although it does bring it forward a few years in order to use a particular film). As a result it's an extremely well told story, that could well bring a tear to your eyes. The only problem I ...

The Green Mile: A wonderful film

Advantages: Beautiful, touching, clever
Disadvantages: Long!

...can do no wrong. After the gripping Saving Private Ryan, we find him in this, "The Green Mile" : a beautiful adaption of Stephen King's series of Books. Hanks plays a prison warden who trapes the between cells on Death Row - affectionately termed the Green Mile because of the green floor that leads to the exectuation chamber. Jon Coffey, an inmate, is the gentle giant accused of the murder of two younf girls. He claims he is innocent, and Hanks ...
...also a powerful healer, with the ability to bring animals, and people, back from the dead, or to cure terminal sickness. Much is left from King's series, but that's fine. Really: it is. After having read both the series, and watched the film, while some poignant points could have made a bigger participation, all in all, the story was pefectly edited by a master craftsman. In comparison to the Director's earlier film, The Shawshank Redemption, it ...

...I was not sure about the story either, but as soon as it began I was engrossed in a first class piece of drama. This is one of the best films I have ever seen with a great story and ggreat direction. However, the best thing about this film is Tom Hanks. He has been possibly the most consistent actor of the nineties and has starred in some of the best films in recent years (Forest Gump, Saving Private Ryan). Overall a fantastic film that is full ...

...get it out on video the other night when I was bored and there was nothing on. I wish that I had had some company for watching it as I was in tears at the end of the film it was so moving. The film is set on death row in a prison in Louisana during the depression. The wardens (apart from one) are a humane and caring group of guys who do their best to make their 'guests' days on the 'Mile' as pleasant as possible. They are also their executioners ...
...arrives, charged with the rape and murder of two small white girls. This inmate is different though as you discover as events begin to unfold on the 'mile'. There's no point in telling much more of the story without giving away what happens, but it is beautifully acted and the story will keep you in suspense throughout wondering what will happen next, and is John Coffee really guilty or innocent. Not exactly one for the kids, and if you're prone ...

Having read the book and thoroughly enjoyed every minute I sat down to watch the film and the casting couldn't have been more exact if they had tried. Every character fitted perfectly with how they were orginally portrayed in the book, which can, sometimes, be lost in the transition from book to film. This ...

...adaptation is incredibly true to the book. Not having that experience to draw from, I, nevertheless found this movie to be moving, compelling and downright mystical. The film's title refers to the pristine green floors of Cold Mountain Penitentiary, a deep south, depression-era prison...more accurately...death row. A wasted title, in my opinion...you never really see this green mile. Not important...just noteworthy. Hanks is Paul Edgecomb, superintendent ...

absolutely superb

Advantages: gripping storyline

I've just watched The Green Mile at the weekend and, well, what can I say that hasn't already been said about this absolutely brilliant movie. THE FILM? The film is set in the 1930's on Death Row, which is usally called The Last Mile, the prison officers decide to call this The Green Mile because of the colour of the floor. THE CHARACTERS? The film takes us through the happenings of various different inmates that are awaiting execution. One prisoner ...

'The Boss' (Tom Hanks) has a WEE small problem at the beginning and this is quite amusing!! SCENES TO BE AVOIDED? I don't ...

The green mile is a film that is based on a Stephen King book of the same name. The film stars Tom Hanks as the head guard on death row or “the green mile” as they call it. The new inmate on the green mile is an extremely large inmate called Jo who has been sentenced to death for the murder of two young girls. Not that some of his older works did but this was so close to the book that I HAD to re-read it just to make sure they hadn't missed anything major. And surprisingly they hadn't. The plot unfolds fantastically into a very gripping film. The film runs for a little over 3 hours which some people see as a disadvantage, but I feel that a film that is this good can be long running and get away with it without being branded as boring. Advantages: Great storyline, superbly acted by all
Disadvantages: Has been given a 18 rating - no kids allowed!

The Green Mile is a fabulous show – three hours long but worth every minute of it. I’ve taped it and will undoubtedly watch it again in the near future. The film is based on the Stephen King novel of the same name. Tom Hanks plays the part of Paul Edgecomb, a prison warden on death row known affectionately as the green mile. It is set in 1935 - the only present-day parts of the film are at the very start and very end, where it shows ...
...The arrival of John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan) is a turning point in Edgecomb’s life. Coffey is a gentle giant, brilliantly scripted and played throughout the film. He has the gift of supernatural healing powers, which are used to great effect on several occasions. He has been accused of the murder of two children, but claims his innocence and gets the sympathy of Edgecomb, especially after healing his bladder pains! One other character ...
