They managed to keep the storyline realistic and so added a certain element to the film that drew the audiance into it.

Advantages: Superb plot, really captures the atmosphere Disadvantages: Bit horrific in parts
The green mile is one of those films which puts the viewer in an uneasy situation - you cant bear to watch, yet you cant look away.
You see, it is a film which is so excellently made, and captures the dark, dreary atmosphere so perfectly, that once you start to watch, you really cant turn away. The plot however is what makes this film really something special. It is brilliant adaptation of the books written by Stephen King, which I would highly ... ...you really feel part of the charactors lives.
However, it is in parts painful to watch - with scenes of people being executed in an electric chair, which can be quite disturbing. In all, this seems to add to the film, and allows it to strike a part deep down inside which most films cant.
Unlike most Stephen King films, the Green Mile is quite easy to follow, with few "leaps" in time in space confusing the storyline (anyone who has seen other Stephen ...

...as it is wonderful.
The story centres around a Prison Warder, Paul Edgecomb played by Tom Hanks, who is in charge of death row, otherwise known as the Green Mile because of the green floor in the cell block. His life is pretty normal until John Coffey is brought in for the rape and murder of two young girls.
Coffey, played by Micheal Clarke Duncan, is a rather large black man with little education. Due to his size, and the fact that he was found ... ...that he is guilty of the crime and he is sentenced to death.
Whilst on death row, we learn more about his amazing gift....saying too much would give the story away completely for those who haven't already seen it, so I'll leave it at that for the 'gift' bit.
As you would expect from a Stephen King novel, there are a few gruesome bits in the film, like where the inmate is electrocuted without a wet sponge on his head. Gary Sinise makes a small appearance ...

...row, with graphic depiction of the executions, would raise many laughs, but the humour in this film is one of its’ stronger points.
In thirties America, during the Depression, a new convict, convicted of raping and murdering two little girls, arrives for execution. John Coffey is black, eight feet tall and with muscles like Schwarznegger wishes he had, the guards are understandably cautious in their initial dealings with him. Except for Prison ... ...with something special. Later in the film Hanks uses him to cure a friend’s daughter of a brain tumour, discovers that he is innocent of the crime for which he was convicted, but still has to execute him.
This is a film for the sentimentalist then, but it has been done so much better before, ‘Dead Man Walking’ springs to mind, which almost squeezed a tear from my flint like heart.
The acting though, is superb. Tom Hanks never ...

Advantages: A moving and stimulating film which holds your interest from start to finish Disadvantages: A little shocking in places, could be a bit gory to some who are squeamish
By Stephen King, The Green Mile is one of the best films I have seen in a long time. I might be slightly biased in that I collect Tom Hanks films, have quite a few of his on video. But this one certainly stands out above the rest. The basic story is set inside a death-row cell block where Paul Edgecombe (Tom Hanks) rules the roost, so to speak. He has a firm but very humanitarian nature. You see loud and boisterous inmates and their strife in waiting ... ...showing the execution of several inmates in the electric chair, one of which goes wrong due to the deliberate incompetence of one obnoxious guard (not to be watched if you are very faint hearted). I was expecting the camera to move when the trigger was pulled, but it didn't so you actually see the whole thing.
The film does have a warm and endearing side. One inmate befriends a little mouse and calls him "Mr Jingles". He is rather upset when his ...

The Green Mile
Director: Frank Darabont
Cast: Tom Hanks, David Morse, Michael Clarke Duncan, Doug Hutchison, Barry Pepper
Story: Louisiana 1935. Paul Edgecomb is head warden on the green mile, Penitentiary’s death row. However the line between their personal and professional lives becomes blurred ... ...the mile. It must have been a no-win situation for a certain Frank Darabont. Riding on the wave of so much success, and with the critical vultures ready to pounce, surely the ...

...cinematic entertainment. If, like me, the trailer for this film had led you to expect a somewhat ponderous treatise on good and evil and the morals of the death penalty, then prepare to be surprised, for Tom Hanks and the rest of the cast refrain from making moral pronouncements and the film takes a hugely unexpected turn towards the end. However, when you consider that it is based on a Stephen King story and is a product of the team that brought ... ...you too much!
Hanks plays the commanding officer on the Green Mile (Death Row) in a Louisiana prison. He and his staff have a well-oiled routine and seem to have built up a relationship with those condemned to die, not asking questions of them, but instead choosing to help these people (murderers, presumably) live out their days as humanely as possible. However, the routine is interrupted by a new prison guard, and the arrival of two new inmates ...

...film and swiftly found it the next day and watched it. I was ready to see an entertaining film but I never expected to see a film which in my opinion, could be argued to be one of the best films of the Nineties.

The film is set in a prison, although unlike Shawshank where the action focuses on a group of inmates, this ... ...are on Death Row. The film is set in the 1930's, and I think I'm right in saying, it is in the Mid-West area of the States (I'm no expert on American accents so I could well be wrong). Tom Hanks plays the role of an experienced Prison Guard who is slowly losing his faith in God ...

Advantages: Excellent acting from all the cast, a product of true craftmanship Disadvantages: Some very distressing Electric-Chair scenes, the 3-hour running time.
With 1994's sleeper hit The Shawshank Redemption, director Frank Darabont took the prison drama format, a Stephen King novella ("Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption") and conjured up one of the most memorably uplifting finales in modern cinema history. A twist which thrilled as much as it delighted, transcending the film's subject matter while providing an unexpected relief from all that had gone before it.
Five years later, Darabont returned ... ...novel that again deals in the miraculous. Coincidence? deja-vu? a lack of ideas? or just plain and simple cheek, perhaps?
After precisely three exhaustive, thought-provoking and often emotional hours, the answer to that would have to rest on the individual viewer and their own preconceptions, opinions and beliefs. An undeniable fact however, is that Darabont excels as a director of the genre.
The Green Mile is more fable than reality, more magical ...

This film begins with Paul Edgecomb in a retirement home and becoming very upset while watching a film. His friend Elle wants to know why so Paul tells her about his days as a prison guard.

...Redemption I was introduced to The Green Mile.
Years after writer-director Frank Darabontīs acclaimed debut for The Shawshank Redemption and received seven Oscar nominations, he made his second film: The Green Mile. Advantages: Brilliant, beautifully filmed and acted. A film with many layers of meaning. Disadvantages: Gruesome elecric chair scenes.
“The floor was the colour of faded limes’, reminisced Paul Edgecombe, his eyes misting over with the memory. Hard to believe he was talking about the ‘Green Mile’ – the Death Row over which he presided in 1935, such is the paradox of this film, excellently adapted from Stephen King’s novel and directed by Frank Darabont.

The Green Mile a brilliant film. It's refreshing because as well as being a blockbuster pure entertainment film, it is also quite thought-provoking and dramatic by being based loosely on real life events in the past. Based on the novel by Stephen King, before watching this you are prepared for some bizarre, supernatural things to happen. But the producers and directors of The Green Mile did it tactfully and rather than thinking that it was pure tackiness, ... ...his story to a friend. The film then goes back to just before WWII to death row where Tom Hanks character was chief officer. The story focuses mainly on an extrodinary (and wrongly accused) man who can perform miracles.
The characters in the film are fantastic and they were all played superbly. There are goodies, baddies and a couple of incredibly evil ones. Some incidents in the film will no doubt shock you as they did me. If the film depicted ...

Advantages: Great acting, plot and very moving. Disadvantages: None.
This movie is one of the most moving and well-acted I've ever seen. The Green Mile is based on the novel by Stephen King, but in my opinion, the movie far exceeds the novel. It combines comedy, drama and sadness to make this one of the best movies ever!! Let's start with the plot. Tom Hanks plays the guy in charge of all the prisoners on Death Row, and long with all his co-workers, they look after the prisoners until it is time for then to be executed ... ...person, who is scared of the dark, and has to have a night-light. But there is more to John, as you will find as the movie progresses. There are also some nice little sub-plots, like a little mouse that they find, and try to kill. But it soon becomes friends with one of the nice in-mates, and they decide to give it a little house. The mouse also has some party tricks up its sleeve! Another of these sub-plots is about one of Hanks' co-workers. This ...
