Advantages: Brilliant film and well acted Disadvantages: A little slow in places
The film is an adaptation of a Stephen King prison story and comes from the director of the excellent Shawshank Redemption (Frank Darabont). This taken into account the Green mile promised to be an unmissable and memorable movie my only regret is that I turned down the chance to see it at the cinema. The basic story centres around the events on the green mile, this would be a good time to explain that this is the name given to death row. We are taken back to the 1930’s, where in the southern states the black community are treated degradingly and with no respect (we all know the history of the era so I aint going into that) John Coffey, like the drink but spelt differently, is a huge black man (I would be inclined to call him a giant and it’s rather amusing when he is first introduced as he is at the ...

The Oscar Winning, Green Mile, originally written by author Stephen King is one of the greatest films I have ever seen. The film is set in America, and is about death row in a Southern Side prison, the last mile, the green mile. The main character is that of Tom Hanks, my personal favourite actor for his role in this film and Forest Gump. It is set in 1935. The film is based on the classic flashback. Tom Hanks plays Paul Edgecomb and re-collects ... ...the instance that made him retire from the job. One prisoner was portrayed as evil, a cold-blooded murderer and not given the fair trial that he deserved, but the truth came out in an extraordinary way. My name is John Coffey, like the drink but only spelt different. That was the words of the so-called murderer, a man who was 6’5 and weighed 315lb. The sheer scale of him made the prisoner guards precautious. However, he proved to be of no burden ...

...novels have been put on the silver screen. But wait, finally justice has been done to one of his novels!
Let me set the scene. Its deep South America, back in the time when slavery was still rife. A negro man is found holding 2 dead young girls. Their fate apparently sealed by the man holding them. He is ultimately sentenced to death and imprisoned whilst awaiting his fate. John Coffey is his name.
He waits for his time to die by the electric chair, ... ...a man, he cries all the time. No-one knows why - yet. This will soon become apparent, as prison boss Paul Edgecombe (portrayed by Tom Hanks) is about to find out. The Green mile is a classic portrayal of the time it is set in, where justice was inconsistent and ultimately wrong. Tom Hanks is in superb form as the prison boss, harsh but fair. The ...

The Green mile is by far the best film I have sat down to watch in a Very long time.
Directed by Frank Darabont (and subsequently he is also the screenwriter) this by far has to be one of the best film’s to bring us into Feb 2000.
The film starts with the present day where a very old Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) starts to tell his story of life as an officer on death row.
The film is about a man who is accused of raping and killing two young ... ...same as coffee but spelt the same, you’ll see what I mean after watching the film) who acted by Clarke Duncan, he is one hulk of a man standing over eight feet tall so you can imagine how easy it is for the officers, people and even us the viewers (at first) to find him immediately guilty.

Adapted by Frank Darabont, from the mammoth 1996 six part serialised novel by Stephen King, The Green Mile hit the cinema in December 1999. Coming from the same partnership as The Shawshank Redemption, it shows many similarities, both in the way it is filmed and the way that the story and it's charecters are sympathetically dealt with.

It is set in contemporary America, but much of the filmed is a "flash -back" to 1935, with Edgecomb thinking back on his life.
The film itself shows the relationship that grows between Edgecomb and one of his prisoners, John Coffey (played by Michael Clarke Duncan), as he awaits execution. Coffey is a gentle ...

Frank Darabont should be the only person allowed to direct Stephen King adaptations. His The Shawshank Redemption is still the best of the bunch, but The Green Mile manages a close second. This is a highly satisfying character-oriented story that is so compelling, it never even occurred to me (not even after the movie was over - it wasn't until I read Roger Ebert's review, where he brought up the same point I'm making now that I realized) that it ... ...is a great testament to the craftsmanship behind the movie that this unlikelihood is of no negative consequence whatsoever; the story has its own reasons for portraying Death Row as it does, and it's all made absolutely convincing by its thoroughly developed characters. The Green Mile is not just another worthy film in which Tom Hanks tries to notch up another Oscar nor is it another take on the classic The Shawshank Redemption. Adapted for the screen from Stephen King's novel of the same name (which I haven't read) this film is in part a feel good movie and certainly not the horror story that most people have come to expect from the author. Even though I am not a particular fan of Hanks, he is a very good actor and as usual turns in a great performance. The Green Mile is one of those films that seems to appeal to everyone, even those who don't really watch a lot of films in general. The film is written and directed by Frank Darabont who brought us The Shawshank Redemption. Once again he knows what to get out of a Stephen King book and brings a very solid story to the screen.
