Advantages: great for a quiet nite in Disadvantages: the film has to end
for anyone expecting the shawshank redemption, you will be pleasantly surprised, this is a far superior film, although it is lengthy at three hours, it grabbed my attention the whole time, the only reason i rented it is seeing a girl in tears as she handed it back in to our local video shop. ok its a prison drama from a short story by stephen king, but there the similarities to shawshank ends, each of the characters is played in depth and superbly ...

Advantages: A cracking novel from the master that has recevied a superb transfer to the screen Disadvantages: Limited extras - not much to prompt a second viewing
...King script makes it to the silver screen. Sadly, with many of King's works, the story is in the mind's eye of the reader, hence a transfer to film destroys the novel. Examples of this include The Running Man, The Stand, and Needful Things. But this falls firmly into the 'Shawshank Redemption' category of King screen classics.
The film itself follows the novel closely, and is similar in many ways to themes pursued in Shawshank. But I will not spoil ... ...to enjoy by yourself.
The picture transfer to dvd is good, although in truth the disc is not under a great deal of pressure to produce anything fantastic. At least we get an anamorphic transfer. Similarly, sound quality is good, yet your subwoofer or rear speakers will not be tested to the limit.
Extras on the disc are limited, although this is more likely to be due to space than anything else - a three hour film and a single disc release is inevitably ...

Advantages: Heart warming Disadvantages: A bit long
I have just watched The Green Mile on DVD (imported from the states)and I just want to say it is a wonderful film. From the same man who directed The Shawshank Redemption The Green Mile stars Tom Hanks and Michael Duncan(who was nominated for an oscar for his role as John Coffey). The story centres around death row where John Coffey is brought after being found guilty of murder. John Coffey is a gentle giant with supernatural powers who brings a sense ... ...inmates. If you enjoyed The Shawshank Redemption (and who didnt)then you will love this film , dont let the running time of 188 minutes put you off, they fly by. The Green Mile is released in the UK on DVD in September and I recommend that everybody sees it. Truly marvellous ...

...a 3 hour plus film, the story carries you along and your forget the clock. This film contains an element of supernatural that carries you along in this fairy story told in a masterly way by Stephen King. A stirring performance from Tom Hanks and Michael Clarke Duncan make the basic plot of a man trapped on death row a deeply moving film. Clearly it is a feel good story a little bit of supernatural sprinkled in, funny bits, sad bits, strange issues ...

...another of my favourite films The Green Mile, it’s an emotional film so get your tissues out ready.
Here's what the film is about:
Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) tells his friend Elaine Connelly about his past and experiences as a Death Row guard. Paul is in an old-aged peoples home many years after working as the head guard on Death Row at Cold Mountain Penitentiary.
Paul’s job at Cold Mountain included watch over killers awaiting their ... ...Killers from their cells to the electric chair.
Over the years, Paul had walked the mile with a variety of convicts but he had never met someone like John Coffey, a massive man arrested and convicted of the murders of a couple of nine-year-old girls who were sisters. John Coffey had the size and strength to kill anyone, but his naive nature and fear of the dark, Coffey didn’t seem the type of person who’d murder someone. Paul began to ...

Advantages: Very realistic Disadvantages: partly boring while the story line starts
This film is one of the best I have ever seen. It give you the feeling of how sad working in a place like that would be or even worse being put on the green mile. The film is based around one (huge) man who is put on the green mile for murder but of course he never did it so he tries to prove his innocence to the guards. He is able to do miracles and take away pain and suffering from other ... ...of the guards suspects his innocents he is put through the ordeal of seeing what really happened to the man and why he is on death role. I have read the book and seen the film and I thoroughly enjoyed both, the films are never the same as the books, and this is the case here but to follow the book it would have been a longer film! The anticipation is astonishing and no matter how many times I watch it I become enthralled. The acting is superb by all especially Tom Hanks, and very well adapted to the screen, you soon become very involved with the characters, so much so you want to ...

I was relieved to discover that Green mile, was the first stephen king film worth watching, after a long time. The Green Mile is a film that you won’t miss, how can you first it stars Tom Hanks who never fails to disappoint. It’s about Hanks who is a prison officer.
