Advantages: Great spectacle, acting, and lots of violence Disadvantages: a little too long
Well, "they" ran THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY on "the box" (i.e. on TV) the other night, and once again I was hooked. Unfortunately, the version shown was NOT letter-box, which as you all know is TV's method of trying to recapture the glorious widescreen of the cinema.
Notwithstanding this setback, yet another viewing of this great movie reminds us of two points:
One: Whilst Sergio Leone was NOT the first Italian director to actually make spaghetti ... ...in fact the very best exponent of this genre. Boldness of sweep - using the camera to best advantage to record the drama of the story - usually very violent, long sequences with extended coverage of the build-up of the action finally to come, his approach virtually changed "the face" of how westerns were made in the 1960's onwards. Two:
Eli Wallach plays Tuco, "The Ugly" or "Il Cattivo" in this epic, but Mr Wallach invests such acting brilliance ...

The first film Italian directors made with Clint Eastwood in was a fist full of dollars. This film was a massive success. It was this film that made Clint Eastwood a international star. His part in this was as a stranger that rides into town and blows everyone away. For the third and last film, this was "the good, bad and ugly" it was planned to create a visual epic set which took place at the time of the american civil war. Also this come with a ... ...brings out several nuances to the part that other actors who have a much lower stature would definately miss out. Here is one example of this. Tuco escapes from the PoW camp. They arrive at the front and try crossing the line of the opposing forces in order to try and find gold that is hidden in an unmarked grave. While looking for the gold he comes across a bath, which was once a hotel but had now become a wreck. He then decides to use it. There ...

...fantastic soundtrack Leone's conclusion to the trilogy must go down as one of the best films ever. A superbly moody ambiance pervades the whole film although there are also moments of comic relief mainly coming from the exchanges between the man with no name (Clint) and the Mexican. Set against the background of the American civil war the film chronicles the three characters' search for treasure buried in the grave of a soldier. Eastwood as in the ...

Advantages: Good Length, Very exciting, great soundtrack Disadvantages: Quite old fashioned for younger viewers, violent
Clint Eastwood (Blondie) stars as the 'Good' in this thrilling Western adventure that certainly doesn't fail to impress. The movie is 177 minutes long and every second is unmissable right from the very first scene. The movie is set during the American civil war and this does certainly play a part in the running of the film. Lee Van Cleef (Angel Eyes) is the 'Bad' and certainitely lives up to this role as he commits both murder and torture during ... ...methods do justify this name. The movie itself takes place in the schorching heat and this has some role to play in how the characters act towards each other. The movie is thrilling and the ending is certainly worth waiting for as the suspense is truly brilliant. Definitely worth a watch, you won't be dissapointed. ...

The greatest of the spaghetti westerns, if not all westerns, full stop. The sweeping cinematic grandeur of Sergio Leone's third film in the "Dollars" trilogy is deservedly a landmark in cinematic history, and has never been bettered. Driven on by greed, and sporting some major personality flaws, the three protagonists fight their way through desert, battlefield, POW camp, and just about every other possible obstacle until they finally face off in ...

i think that the good the bad and the ugly is one of the best spagetti westerns. this film is all about three different people which all meet each other at some part of the film. as you would of known that he is the good part of this film. and the others what a mouthful. it's based on the bad has been sent to kill this person after he has got the infomation out of him. so he does but he pays the bad guy to kill the person who payed the bad guy to ... ...who at the minute is getting chased by bounty hunters which he kills except one which stays alive. then we meet eastwood who at this time has caught the bad guy and has taken him to the law to get his reward, so he does. then it gets better because the ugly and good join forces to steel the reward money as they were getting away from a job they come across a wagon which is what the bad guy is looking for. so they see what is inside it and its a person ...
