The culmination of Leone's renowned Dollars series of spaghetti westerns that includes A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS (1964) and FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE (1965). Set during the Civil War, this...
more...wagonload of grit carries three desperados whose squinting eyes are fixed on a Confederate treasure. While dodging authorities, the Good (Eastwood) the Bad (Van Kleef) and the Ugly (Wallach) keep busy by stabbing each other firmly in the back hoping to beat the others to the gold. The climax comes with the gripping stand-off at the cemetery. A typical Leone picture with brooding vistas, leisurely langorous pacing, operatic violence and a haunting score from Morricone.

The ultimate spaghetti western
Review of The Good Bad And The Ugly (Wide Screen) by doctor_gonzo

Advantages: A classic
Disadvantages: none

...fantastic soundtrack Leone's conclusion to the trilogy must go down as one of the best films ever. A superbly moody ambiance pervades the whole film although there are also moments of comic relief mainly coming from the exchanges between the man with no name (Clint) and the Mexican. Set against the background of the American civil war the film chronicles the three characters' search for treasure buried in the grave of a soldier. Eastwood as in the ... Read review

Best of the Trilogy
Review of The Good Bad And The Ugly (Wide Screen) by glwgardner

Advantages: Longer version
Disadvantages: None

The greatest of the spaghetti westerns, if not all westerns, full stop. The sweeping cinematic grandeur of Sergio Leone's third film in the "Dollars" trilogy is deservedly a landmark in cinematic history, and has never been bettered. Driven on by greed, and sporting some major personality flaws, the three protagonists fight their way through desert, battlefield, POW camp, and just about every other possible obstacle until they finally face off in ... The Good Bad And The Ugly review
Review of The Good Bad And The Ugly (Wide Screen) by petery36

Advantages: Good Length, Very exciting, great soundtrack
Disadvantages: Quite old fashioned for younger viewers, violent

Clint Eastwood (Blondie) stars as the 'Good' in this thrilling Western adventure that certainly doesn't fail to impress. The movie is 177 minutes long and every second is unmissable right from the very first scene. The movie is set during the American civil war and this does certainly play a part in the running of the film. Lee Van Cleef (Angel Eyes) is the 'Bad' and certainitely lives up to this role as he commits both murder and torture during this ... Read review
