Advantages: Good story, good character development Disadvantages: Nothing New
...know. To keep with the theme of my more recent film reviews I am going to use another John Travolta film as my subject: The General’s Daughter. I first saw this film when it was released in the cinema and now own it on DVD. It is far from a masterpiece of filmmaking but is certainly entertaining enough to be watched more than once.
** Background **
The General’s Daughter can be broadly described as a thriller. It is directed by Simon West, who ... ...Raider, and is based on the novel of the same name written by Nelson DeMille. The story has been adapted for the screen by Christopher Bertolini and William Goldman.
** Storyline **
Sgt. Frank White is preparing for an arms deal in a couple of days. Along with another soldier they are going to sell a large number of guns to a member of the public. The only problem for the other soldier involved in the trade and the buyer is the Sgt. White is actually ...

Advantages: good performacnes, great dialogue Disadvantages: routine, Travolta is a little too charismatic
...film in question isn’t exactly the hound’s gonads and therefore is forced into the shadows. There are many under ratted films out there that people refuse to watch because of the general media spin created by critics. “Equilibrium” for example was thought to have been a Matrix-esque cash cow but in actual fact it takes a completely different direction and can arguably be better. “Monster’s Ball” wasn’t exactly a big hit until Halle Berry won her ... ...the case for “The General’s Daughter”, your regular ‘who done it’ mystery/thriller with a military twist, fine performances and a razor sharp script.
The film sees John Travolta (“Grease”, “Pulp Fiction”) as an agent in the CID of the military. After the completion of an undercover job, Military Investigator Paul Brenner (Travolta) is assigned to investigate the torture/rape/murder of a young woman that occurred on a military exercise site at West ...

He is shocked at the scene and is even more disturbed when he finds out she is the General’s daughter. The General is due to retire and move over in politics so this could be bad for his image. Advantages: A superb script Disadvantages: Travolta is perhaps a little to larger than life
...piece of script writing.
The story begins with the discovery of the generals daughter tied to stakes in the ground, naked, spread eagled and very dead. Despite the appearance, she has not been raped. Travolta is placed on the case, fighting his way through the male dominated, majorly corrupt, and seriously close-knit army ways to get to the truth.
This film is a strange combination of crime thriller, moving drama and verging on romantic piece. It ... ...one of the best dialogue sequences for a many a blue moon. Travolta and Stow do their jobs adequately, and without too much hollywood overacting.
If you like crime thrillers you will like this. If you like films that are just a little upsetting to watch but undeniably good, then this is for you. If you like your films to pacy and exciting, you too will be satisfied. All in all few will be dissappointed.
A good film that is exciting and thought ...
