Advantages: A good ghost story
Disadvantages: Makes sleep uneasy

Advantages: Atmospheric
Disadvantages: Getting a little dated

This was one of the first horror films I ever saw and will never forget the shock I got the morning after when my Dad thought it would be funny to knock on my bedroom door three times to wake me up! In true John Carpenter style the film is extremely atmospheric with a superb soundtrack composed by him. Advantages: Quite scary, atmospheric.
Disadvantages: Went off a bit towards end.

...more frightening, add to that the typical simplistic Carpenter synth music and it works well enough to make it one of his better films. It's a simple premise with long dead pirates returning from the dead every time a certain sea fog arrives at a sleepy fishing town and if you've ever been in a sea fog you'll know how creepy it is. I have lost count on the amount of times I have seen this film. Have to say its one of my favs. The gist of the plot Is a town called Antonio Bay who are celebrating their 100th anniversary of its founding. The fog contains something which is evil and hell bent on revenge for past misdeads. It has a beautiful location and has a great cast . Advantages: hey its a john carpenter film baby
Disadvantages: its a bloomin old film, and it shows

if you were expecting the James Herbert version of the fog, you'll be sadly disspaointed, this is tale of zombie pirates, mystical sea fog and retribution, for its time, the effects are pretty damned good, but against todays horror movies it plaes by comparision. Carpenter could have done more, but its not the thing (which is one of his best) by a long shot, its not a bad waste of an hour and a half, and there are still some jumpy moments. Worth watching ...
