Advantages: Young cast, no high expectations, scary, good soundtrack. Disadvantages: Not the the most original of films.
...going to eventually realise that the key to a successful movie has nothing whatsoever to do with how famous the cast is.? Okay so the majority of films that make money are bursting with celebrities, but this should not detract from the fact that films with unknowns are potentially just as popular. Take ‘The Usual Suspects’, a mixture of semi famous faces and total unknowns, now one of the most popular films of the nineties, and also famous ... ...Halle Berry and Hugh Jackman. The director of both movies is incidentally Bryan Singer, who was himself unheard of and is now one of the most celebrated young directors today. This just proves how the cast is not what the audience really judges a film on, of course the cast matters but my point is that a good film with new actors is miles better than a bad film with famous actors.
‘The Faculty’, then is similar to ‘The Usual Suspects’, ...

...soon as I heard all the reviews on the web and boy was I disappointed.
The film is about a US high school called Herrington High and the strange things that are going on there, and this is where my interest in the film seemed to end, After a few reasonable events a group of kids find out that their teachers have actually been taking over by a bunch of parasitic aliens.
The problem with this is the bunch of kids that get together to take on the ... ...it’s not entertaining anymore.
The group is headed up by a rebel by the name of Zeke played by Josh Hartnett he is of course the slacker who deals drugs never attends classes but has a very impressive IQ.
Next is Elijah Wood who plays Casey the weakling of the group who is the one we are supposed to feel for but I just didn’t care about his character at all, in fact I did a times just want him to get a pole through the head (I’m ...

Advantages: A good young cast Disadvantages: Not the strongest of storylines
The Faculty is a teenage Science Fiction film that asks you to meet the alien generation. The film was released in 1998 and has a hot young cast, which includes Josh Hartnett and Elijah Wood. Now this film certainly isn't one that I would class as in my favourites but somehow it is a film that I keep coming back to. I think the reasoning behind this is the fact that despite the cast being relatively young the acting is more than decent. Furthermore ... ...for it's 100-minute duration.
The film is based within Herrington High School where some very creepy things have started to happen. Now I'm sure at one point or another you've wondered whether your teachers are really aliens but at this school that is exactly the case and some chilling discoveries by the students confirm their worst suspicions. As the mind-controlling parasites spread rapidly from the faculty to the students it is ultimately a small ...

...anyone familiar with Invasion of the Body Snatchers and other such similar stories will probably be offended by this new age re-make. Which is essentially all it is. I'm not saying its a bad film and it's worth at least one watch for the plot line that drugs aint bad, drugs're good. Yes pish posh me all you like but once aliens have taken over, the local genius' drugs supply is apparently the only way to other throw the alien race smart enough to ... ...and gradually it spreads to the rest of them. Then they start on the students and towns folk in an attempt to spread their message of emotionless droning control. Of course there is the kid who knows something is wrong and recurits others in an attempt to fight the onslaught of water loving celestial creatures. The narrative follows the basic codes and convnetions of horror/sci fi with the establishing shots and intro to the main cast. There's the ...

Advantages: some good action, nice sound mix Disadvantages: very underwhelming considering talent involved
...fans were quite excited when the 'in' writer of Scream and Director Robert Rodriguez were working together on a film that was pitched as a sci-fi horror flick that echoed Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The end result is 'The Faculty', it's an entertaining film and better than most of the teen horror flicks at the time. But considering the talent involved you can't help but feel this should have been better. The film is basically set at a school ... ...point of caring. The students meanwhile are the usual mixture of misfits and cool kids. One day a geeky kid named casey discovers an unknown organism on the football field. An event occurs and it appears that the teachers have all has personality changes. The dowdy english teacher is now very foxy and sexually charged. The sports coach has gone from an angry driven individual to a very relaxed guy while the jaded history teacher suddenly has a new ...

Advantages: A good teen sci-fi / horror! Disadvantages: Only a few minor!
Released in 1998, The Faculty is a movie directed by Robert Rodriguez, who previously directed hit movies Desperado and From Dusk Til Dawn, and who has since continued his success directing the likes of Sin City. The Faculty stars a number of young actors, who at the time were up and coming, and who have since gone on to become very successful names in the movie business. These include Josh Hartnett, Elijah Wood, Jordana Brewster and r&b star Usher.

THE PLOT
The film is based around the students and teachers of Herrington High School. The faculty members of the school are slowly acting more and more strangely- they become more confident, aggressive and glamorous whilst drinking constant and copious amounts of water.......

...do we have to get the poster with the 5 main characters standing there in a "V" shape looking dorky, with a black background? It's a blatant rip off of the original scream posters, which is probably copied from somewhere before that!
Anyway now on to the film. It's alright, aliens have landed and have taken control of a teacher's body. My favourite actress is Clea Duvall, acted Stokely who has a black, smoky make-up which I'd really like. Advantages: Good plot, easy to follow Disadvantages: n/a
Although a little far-fetched, the general plot to this film is actually rather interesting.
I won't give too much away, but the general plot is that aliens over take a school in America, and aim to over-take everyone on earth, starting with the school.
It all starts when the school geek finds a new species on the playing field, who then takes it to his biology teacher for examination. This "New Species" is really a small alien, that over-takes ... ...at the school have already been over-taken by the strange creature, and begin trying to infect the students.
Luckily, there are a small group of students who have realised what is going on and avoid the infection process. They then discover that Zeke, who is a trader of almost everything in the school, has some kind of drug that kills the alien inside the humans by drying them out. The only thing is, it also kills the human too.
They then realise, ...

Advantages: The cast performs well, good special effects Disadvantages: No extras on the DVD, confused style
Directed by Robert Rodriguez, the man behind Desperado and From Dusk Till Dawn, I expected The Faculty to be a fast-paced action movie involving guns and explosions. Unfortunately, I was wrong. Instead, I got a high school teen drama thingy mixed with a bit of horror and sci-fi stuff. But I persevered, and continued watching till the end – and it does get better, with a few very good moments. The story is nothing special – aliens are trying to take ... ...is with one of the kids’ homemade drugs. The cast is monopolised by young upstarts, the only established actors being Robert Patrick (the best thing about the film, in my opinion) and Salma Hayek. But they do perform well, the main group of kids being especially good. The special effects are quite good and believeable, and the music is pretty good too. However, there are no special features on the DVD, whuich would have been nice. But despite the ...

Advantages: Brill film, great acting.... Disadvantages: none.......
...Kevin Williamson released Scream 2, the two collaborated to produce The Faculty. In many ways, this is Williamson's best work, whereas in the Scream movies his movie references, while clever, feel contrived, forced, here he makes references to science fiction books and movies in a science fictional situation.
Think, if aliens suddenly landed in your high school, how would you refer to things other than what you'd seen on TV and in movies?. It's ... ...alienating.
This is the nightmare vision of all our high schools, the place that scares freshmen with tales of being stuffed into lockers and, as we see in a brilliant long-take and a particularly painful shot, rammed into a flagpole. It also helps that the cast here is large; it's an ensemble piece. Here we see six high-school students (and they all really look like high school students, something that helps the film a lot) who seem to live in ...
