Psychological Thriller

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

The Exorcist is an old film but is meant to be one of the most frightening of our time. The film is good but the effects are a little bit old and had it been remade it could have been a bit more frightening. The fact that it is based on a true story makes it a little more scarey, but the film on it's own isn't too bad. When watched in the right atmosphere it can create a more frightening mood, but it is not really terrifying stuff. In fact you can ...

Advantages: good effects
Disadvantages: not a very gripping story

After all the fuss and hype surrouding the re-release of this film, I thought I'd give it a go. I can't say it's the scariest thing i've ever seen but I wasn't completely let down by it. It just seemed to me a run of the mill horror flick. Some of my friends said their mother's ran out of the cinema when it was first released. I can understand that, taking into account that it was made 25 years ago and there weren't any other films with effects this ...
...a very powerful demon. Enter the eponymous exorcist to rid her of it. If you don't want to know what happens .... he dies in the process. It's a film as much about faith as it is about possession. The exorcism is successful because of the faith the men have and the selflessness to kill himself when the demon takes him over. The effects are probably state of the art for the time it was made. It's not as frighteneing as it was then but it's still ...

The ever-living classic

Advantages: Excellent actings. Very good storyline. Great make-ups.
Disadvantages: Standard sound and visual effects.

The Exorcist was done in 1973 by William Friedkin, based on a novel by William Peter Blatty. We are slowly introduced to the point of the story, as we watch a young girl (Reagan), being possessed by the Devil himself. She becomes strange and aggressive to everyone around her, but in fact she's only fighting inside her own soul for an apparently impossible way to escape from the terrible possessing she's in! Her mother's hope lies in an old Father, ...
...perform an exorcism and save the child! The Exorcist is a classic in its genre, not just because of the fact that it has a great story but also perfect representations. This film explores a new kind of horror, through a great cast of characters, such as Linda Blair, as the young and extremely beautiful possessed child. The movie presents a strong language and body expressions, significantly related with Devil's essence, which horrifyied most of ...

A real head turner..

Advantages: Damn scary, intelligent and very well made for a horror film
Disadvantages: A little difficult to take the rotating head seriously i'm afraid!

...I've been trying to watch the whole film since and at last they've put it on DVD and it almost scared me rigid again. It can lay claim to being the best horror movie ever made because it deals intelligently, frighteningly and realistically with it's subject of the nature of evil. I've read the novel and it's pretty close to that - William Blatty wrote the novel and the screenplay so it follows. Director William Freidkin utilises his gritty 'French ...

Great first time round and outstanding the second

Advantages: Great plot
Disadvantages: Can drag on and very violent.

When the exorcist was released in 1973 it shocked the world. Classed as one of the scariest horror films of all time, people were fainting in cinemas across the world after seeing this film. I decided to buy it to see what all the fuss was about when it was released second time around in 1999. My gran had been to see it also first time round and she said it was absolutely thrilling and one of the greatest films of all time. When Iwatched it for ...

Advantages: one of the scariest films of all time.
Disadvantages: extremely disturbing, not recommended for all.

this movie may be from the 70s, but it has aged extremely well. the film quality is still spectacular, the plotline creepy as hell, and (with the extra scenes added in) the revamped version is a welcome addition to any horror collection along with the original. unfortunately, none of the sequels measure up to the horror of the first. father marrin, a priest, is at an archeological dig when a statue is found of an ancient demon, pazuzu. this demon ...

Quick review of The Exorcist (DVD)

This is without a doubt the scariest movie ever made. Everything about this movie is terrifying. The actors in this film are at the peak of their game. Ellen Burstyn plays a confused and scared mother. Linda Blair (in her movie debut) plays Reagan who becomes possessed after messing about with an ouijji board. Ellen, Linda & William Friedkin should have all won oscars for this film. Even to this day people don't like thinking about The Exorcist...and it's really not that hard to see why. If you haven't yet seen this film then I would advise you to do so, but watch at your own risk. You probably won't be able to sleep for weeks afterwards! ...

The scariest film ever made, yeh right

Advantages: good storyline
Disadvantages: not scary

The Exorcist was on Channel 4 last night and I have to say I was was a bit worried when they said at the beginning of the film that it is the scariest film ever made but I stayed and watched it grabbing the cushion just incase. The film starts off in Iraq, in a desert type place. People are digging and a man finds a clay figure of the devil. The films goes on to show a young-ish girl of the age of 12 and her mother in their house that is situated ...
...the attic. A bit later on in the film Regen (the girl) gets posessed by the devil and turns into it eventually. The devil is taking over Regen and she is violent. The doctors work out that she has been posessed eventually and the preists are called in to work an excoristism. The devil kills the preist and other people then the other preist tells the devil to take him instead so he does and and falls out the window down a big flight of concrete stairs ...

The special effects of this film can be laughable at some places, however, for a film this old, the effects are very good and in fact pioneering. I actually saw a documentary on the making of this film where they were describing the processes involved in achieving the effects. The makers went as far as freezing the room in minus temperature conditions to achieve the frosted breath that came out of the actors/actresses mouth. The bed shaking was achieved ...
...as far as physically slapping the actors in order for them to get the emotionally terrified looks. I think that this film is exceptionally well made and still has the ability to frighten people 20 years down the line. I rate this film as the Mother of all Horror Movies. ...

THE MOST SCARIEST FILM RETURNS

Advantages: good effects, has not lost quality because of the 28 years
Disadvantages: Sorry, but there is none

BOOM FOR THE PRINCE OF DARKNESS! Never before were so many movies produced dealing with the devil as the last years. Arnold Schwarzenegger fought in "End of Days" the Satan, Johnny Depp opened in Roman Polanski's "the nine gates" the door to hell and Kim Basinger was confrontated in "The prophecy" with the power of darkness. But what would theses films be without the classicist "The Excorcist"? In the year 1973 spectators were so shocked that many ...

As Regan's bed was shaken like from a ghost the mother believes that there are supernatural powers. She seeks ...

Why why why why why

Advantages: um.......plots original for the time
Disadvantages: The first 1/2 hour could have been better

Its 1973 and one of the most controversial films of the time has just been released its name THE EXORCIST. And my question 28 years later is WHY?? I feel there is no real point in me detailing too much about the plot (as others have already done this and very well too.) but basicially the film is about an actresses daughter being possesed by an evil force. Enter a priest who has lost his faith an older priest who has only ever read about exorcisms ...
...needing them.) Then bring on the exorsism. Maybe it because I am slightly more desensitised than the youth of 28 years ago but I just found this film more dull than scary. I guess I have to applaud the bravory of the director and writer for tackling the subject in such a way but still banning it from showing on t.v for 28 years.(geeze) Okay I think i'm done ripping this film to shreds and if you are older and saw the film when it first came out ...

...my most favourite film in the whole wide world. This film is originally based upon reported events in a place called, Mount Rainer, Maryland in the U.S. A 14-year-old boy was said to be possessed by a demon. Although these were only reports of the priests who performed the exorcism, not real footage. I watched this film when it was re-released in October of I think 1998, right near Halloween, and let me tell you I slept downstairs with the light ...

The events that lead you to the full possession are very disturbing and subtly ...

#1 Classic Horror Movie

Advantages: Scary creepy
Disadvantages: some scenes are disturbing very scary im warning you :P

The Excorcist 1973 Film by William Peter Blatty, author of the novel and screenplay and reportedly the film's first director, very well directed and one of the scariest pump heart-beating film that will make you OMG!
