But where does it all lead!

Advantages: intriguing film
Disadvantages: none

I had never heard of the film 'The Door in the Floor' until I read a review about it on Dooyoo a few weeks ago. I probably would not have thought much more about it if the reviewer had nor referred to the fact that it was based on a John Irving novel - 'A Widow for one Year'. I had read this book a few years ago and remember enjoying it although could not remember that much about it. Anyway, I thought I would seek it out and discovered it on play.com ...
...that when I started watching the film that the story would come flooding back to me but strangely enough it didn't. I later discovered by watching a feature of John Irving talking about the film that it only focuses on the first part of the novel, which probably explains why I did not recognise it that much. I am therefore in no position to say how true it is to the novel, but in John Irving's commentary, he is very happy with it. The film is about ...

Secrets, Personal Fears and Tragedy make 'The Door' a great film

Advantages: A wonderful story, beautifully filmed with exquisite perfomances
Disadvantages: Not a comedy. I repeat, not a comedy

...nail my colours firmly to the mast. I love books. I love reading. One of my favourite authors is John Irving. One of my favourite books by Irving is 'A Widow for One Year'. Now, you may be wondering what in the wide, wide world of sports this has to do with my review of a film entitled 'The Door in the Floor'. Well, dear reader, read on and I shall explain... In 2004 a film was made. There is nothing curious in that minor fact. Of course there are ...
...to, though, is based upon the first third of an existing novel. The novel in question is, funnily enough, 'A Widow for One Year' by John Irving. The screenplay for 'The Door in the Floor' was not written by Irving himself, although he is not averse to screenwriting (he adapted his own novel 'The Ciderhouse Rules' for the screen). Irving approved the screenplay for 'TDitF', which was written by Tod Williams, who also directed the film. The Plot I ...

The door in the floor aint no bore!

Advantages: Gripping Drama
Disadvantages: A little confusing at times

THE DOOR IN THE FLOOR, advertised as a Drama/Thriller the packaging makes it look like its going to be another 'What Lies Beneath' with the huge name parents and small girl child, I was thinking that the 'Door in the Floor' was going to be some nasty hiding place for all manner of creepy stuff which would care the pants off me! Not so, this is definatley a Drama and NOT a Thriller of any description. THE STORY: Written and directed by Tod Williams, ...
...is in serious trouble following the untimely death of their two sons. Throughout the movie reference is made to the two sons but it is not until the end that you find out what happened (and no it is not creepy or bloodthirsty in any way) Marion falls into a deep depression following their death, Meanwhile, Ted, a writer, artist and drunk has drifted into repeated infidelity, his most recent 'Life model' and lover being Mrs. Vaughn (Mimi Rogers). ...
