Lies,Betrayal. Sacrifice How far will you take it?

Advantages: Excellent ,unpredicatable, original, exciting
Disadvantages: Some dodgy accents, alot of swearing

After watching the Oscars the other night I stumbled across a film called The Departed. I had seen this film in the video store a few times but never really thought that much of it as I hadn't heard a great deal about it, plus I never really liked Leonardo DiCaprio. Then when it won the Oscar for best motion picture I thought maybe it was worth toddling off down the video store and buying it. So off I went paying £12.99 for this DVD. A Japanese director ...
...affairs. Then the screenplay was credited to William Monohan. The Excellent Oscar Winning Martin Scorsese, who has directed many brilliant films, such as Gangs of New York and The Aviator, directs the film. The film is about crime lords in Boston, at the beginning of the film you meet Colin Sullivan played by Matt Damon, as a young child were he meets Frank Costello, played by Jack Nicholson. The small child that plays Colin looks more like Mark ...

...and Colin Sullivan both enter the police force wanting to work their way up. The only thing is, Colin is really a mole, planted by Irish mob leader, Frank Costello, whereas Billy, because of his family's mob connections, is planted undercover and becomes Costello's right hand man. A first, neither man is aware of the other; Billy's point of contact is through agents Queenan and Dignam, and Colin, who works for Queenan and Dignam, has a hot line direct ...
...mole on both sides of the law; will Billy and Colin be able to continue to fight for their sides without being uncovered? Or is one of them doomed to die a painful death? Based on the Hong Kong thriller Infernal Affairs, I've long wanted to watch this film. Usually, I stay clear of remakes of Asian films - I haven't exactly been persuaded to watch them after watching the odd one or two and realising how poor they are in comparison. This film seemed ...

The Departed DVD Review

Advantages: Characters, Direction, Supsense
Disadvantages: Gets constantly compared to Goodfellas.

Forget any preconceived notions of the term "re-make" that may have developed from bad experience- The Departed is a remarkable achievement in American crime cinema. Borrowing elements from the 2002 Hong Kong film Infernal Affairs, Martin Scorsese establishes a stellar cast, a brilliantly-written script, and thematic use of Boston's heritage and culture to make The Departed his own. The basic premise is that a cop goes undercover in the mob, while ...
...in the police force. In Scorsese's version, the "good cop" is Trooper William "Billy" Costigan Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio), while the Staff Sergeant Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon) is the informant to mob boss Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson). Sullivan is tracked from boyhood, rising through the ranks. Costigan's story runs parallel, as we see his superiors stage kicking him off the force, as a method of infiltrating Costello’s organization, later. Now, if ...

The Departed - A masterpiece for Scorsese

Advantages: Amazing, entertaining film
Disadvantages: Absolutely none

...I bought a copy of the DVD and even now I know the ending its still gripping. This is a blink and you'll miss it film, very fast paced story with lots of twists and turns. There is the biggest twist at the end that totally knocks you for six, you really can't see it coming (you usually have some kind of idea with these films, but not this one). It's got an all star cast and they all pull off a fantastic performance. Jack Nicholson is amazing with ...
...Sheen - I know the cast doesn't get much better than that! There are also some great performances from Ray Winstone and Alec Baldwin. The story mainly revolves around Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon. Dicaprio is sent deep under cover to work with the Costello (played by the legend that is Jack Nicholson) and Damon (a kind of son like figure to Costello) is sent under cover (if you can call it that) with the Massachusetts State Police. ==Awards== ...
