Advantages Advantages Still to the high standards of the first film

Disadvantages Disadvantages 152 minutes in length!

In my mind Batman Begins was probably the first superhero film since Superman The Movie that had its feet firmly placed o the ground in terms of story telling and plot. The long awaited sequel is about to be released and this for some is what the fans have been waiting for, that is the return of The Joker. Just watching this film and the fact there is a sequel to Batman Begins is a bonus on its own. People though that this would never get off the ground at all, so seeing the majority of the original cast from the first film is a true achievement and goes to show how much belief the cast have ... more

Advantages Advantages Great cast, script, action etc.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too long and poorly rated.

In January of this year we were all shocked when actor and heartthrob to a lot of people in the world Heath Ledger died of an accidental OD. However he did manage to act in two films before his death, one he never completed and the other was probably one of his best pieces of work, ever. His role in the Dark Knight is nothing like you would expect, he doesn't make you swoon ladies like he does in his other films, he doesn't just seem to be there for eye candy. He was always a good actor, I agree, but it's a shame his life ended just when he found his niche, his role as the Joker was truly his ... more

'Don't believe the hype', as 'Flava Flav', the rapper dude who wears the big clock around his neck, once said, the flamboyant Public Enemy singers iconic Hip Hop line spot on when it comes to reviewing the big event movie of 2008. When you hear only great things about a film and enjoyed the previous one in the franchise you expect and want it to deliver, which, although the Dark Knight did in some aspects, it just didn't nail it in the critical categories a sequels must for me, especially in the superhero category. I'm not saying its poor or anything but just distinctly underwhelming for the ... more

Billionaire Bruce Wayne’s alter-ego Batman has helped to free the streets of Gotham from the clutches of the mobsters that once controlled it. But now the thugs are fighting back, rallying around a dangerous psychopath in clown make-up who calls himself The Joker. He plans to kill Batman and take over the city. Hard to believe I know but it has been three long years since Batman Begins first hit cinema screens across the globe, and now as I write this The Dark Knight takes the story on a seamless transition from one movie to the other. 2008's most anticipated movie would have been a blockbuster hit alone, but the death of one of the co-stars Heath Ledger an icon of our time solidified its place in history; when The Dark Knight opened a week ago in America it smashed box office record by achieving a whooping turnover of 67 million pounds on its first day. At the end of the already dark Batman Begins ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

The Dark Knight is the latest Batman film to hit our screens, involving Batman's fight to save Gotham city from the Joker's crime wave, whilst also trying as Bruce Wayne to push Harvey Dent as the cities new major and finally be able to hang up his bat suit, and Dents eventual moral conflicts. Bale is a excellent Batman and Bruce Wayne, playing both characters to almost perfection, although my gripe with his Batman is the strange gruff voice he puts on for it. He seems completely at home playing the arrogant millionaire and you have to wonder how much of this is the character and how much is ... more

Advantages Advantages Superb Character Studies, Cast and Story, excellent Direction

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Slightly too long

Christopher Nolan is a special director, he made Momento and had Hollywood raving, he made the Prestige and the twist got everybody thinking, Batman Begins reinvented the Dark Knight on the big screen taking influence from the graphic novels, and then he made this, the sequel to Batman Begins, an altogether darker piece of work, which has a gripping story but is also a fascinating character study of the films main characters. The story was co-written by Nolan and his brother and it tells in the direction, as he clearly understands every nuance of his characters and the story and sets out to ... more

You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain" The release of "The Dark Knight" was greeted with something approximating mass-hysteria by the film-watching public due to the tragic circumstances surrounding the movie. For those who happened to be on another planet at the time, Heath Ledger, who plays arch-villain "The Joker", tragically died of an apparent overdose of prescribed drugs just before release. Ledger automatically gained Kurt Cobain/James Dean style cult-status. Facebook groups sprung up immediately pronouncing him the greatest actor ever to draw ... more

Gotham City is experiencing yet another crime wave at the hands of the mafia and the Joker, who are intent to turn Gotham into a free-for-all for criminals. New District Attorney, Harvey Dent, is determined to get to the bottom of matters, along with James Gordon and Bruce Wayne, who leads a double life as Batman. Some progress is made, but the Joker keeps turning up and thwarting their every move. Can Batman rid the city of the menace that the Joker has become? Or is the Joker's psychopathic nature finally going to turn the tables on Batman and law enforcement in Gotham for good? I should ... more

INTRO You must always start your reviews of superhero movies with the clarification that if you're not actually a huge comic book reader, you probably don't really know that much about the characters. Otherwise you're likely to cause offence to those who are comic book readers, and judge the movies for not being relevant or true to the way the story is supposed to pan out. Unfortunately, I'm not the right person to ask if you want to know anything along the lines of what happened in issue #278, but what I do know is that if DC Comics translate to the big screen anywhere near as well as Marvel ... more
