Dr. Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks, FORREST GUMP) and cryptologist Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou, AMELIE) set out to uncover the truth about The Holy Grail, encountering a mysterious...
more...ancient society on the way. Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is on business in Paris when he is called to the Louvre, where a curator he was due to meet has been murdered. There he meets police cryptologist Sophie Neveu, the granddaughter of the murdered curator. A number of symbols and riddles have been found at the murder scene and the duo set about solving the complex mystery. However, Bezu Fache (Jean Reno, LEON)--the police officer in charge of the investigation--believes that Langdon is implicated in the killing. This leads to Langdon being chased by the French police as he attempts to solve the mystery by following secret clues found in the works of artist Leonardo Da Vinci. Langdon and Neveu escape to England to continue their search for clues in the mystery that has the possibility to upset the very foundations of Christianity, a search that brings them into conflict with Catholic organisation Opus Dei and their dangerous monk Silas (Paul Bettany, GANGSTER NO. 1). Screenwriter Akiva Goldsman (I, ROBOT) manages to transform Dan Brown's tremendously successful novel into a thrilling and fast paced script that is expertly directed by Ron Howard (APOLLO 13). The film was the target of criticism by the Roman Catholic Church but this didn't stop THE DA VINCI CODE becoming a worldwide smash hit.

Advantages: Serious audience participation, very thrilling and exhillarating.
Disadvantages: non that I can think of.

...Dan Brown’s international bestseller, hence the name “THE DA VINCI CODE”. The novel really comes alive in this film and is portrayed brilliantly by Academy Award winning director Ron Howard. The plot focuses on symbolist Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) and cryptologist Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou) as they embark on a exhilarating quest to unravel a bizarre murder mystery that takes them from the Louvre in Paris (where the murder took place) to many churches ... * LET'S THINK ABOUT IT... *
Review of The Da Vinci Code (DVD) by MonyMax

Advantages: Not too bad
Disadvantages: Book it's better

...tv... not to mention all the books written on it. Anyway I don't care about what's in fashion. I discovered and read Dan Brown only when everyone was talking about it for years and the scandal was almost finished. It could be I don't like neither to be "up-to-date" nor to do what everyone does: there's nothing more unpleasant to me than listen a song only because everyone says it's a "legend" or read a novel because "you have to know it!"... *** ... A cryptic Movie
Review of The Da Vinci Code (DVD) by Spottydog11

Advantages: Good story, characters
Disadvantages: None

The Da Vinci Code was probably one of the most controversial books of the modern day and so the movie was always going to be eagerly anticipated. The book was written by Dan Brown and was an international bestseller. I've read the book and really really enjoyed it and was excited above the movie. Of course, the subject matter is very controversial and although it is meant to be somewhat fictional I can see elements of truth in it. The film version ... Read review

Disadvantages: For the ones that read the book, the surprise element is gone...

...impelled a shock wave among the Christian community putting historians, religious scholars, and genealogists after clues to confirm or deny what the book states to be “Roman Catholic Church’s biggest lie”: That Mary Magdalene was married to Jesus Christ and from this union a daughter, a royal descendant was born. Review of The Da Vinci Code (DVD) by happysh2009

Advantages: an appealing topic
Disadvantages: too many omissions made the film difficult to understand

Because the new film Angels & Demons is due for release on May 2009 I watched the film The Da Vinci Code again. Basic introduction The Da Vinci Code was released in 2006, which was based on a popular novel in 2003, The Da Vinci Code. The novelist Dan Brown made his name overnight by the publishing. The film directed by Ron Howard and starred Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon, an expert in cryptography from Harvard University; Audrey Tautou as ... Read review

Disadvantages: large parts were missing that had significance to the story

...movie but nothing compared to the book i recommend the book to anyone. although the movie did capture most of the excitement from the book which i was hoping for after i most enjoyed reading the book for the first time over 5 years ago. the story behind the great mind of da vinci has inspired the modern man for years and should for years to come and this movie shows that there might have been for to the man than just an artist and inventor. the movie ... The Da Vinci Code - DVD
Review of The Da Vinci Code (DVD) by readalittlereadalot

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Not a great film

...am being honest, after reading the book, I really do not know why i even bothered to buy the DVD. The acting is not the greatest bearing in mind the actors involved with the film, Tom Hanks has so much more to give than he offers in this film. The story is only very losely based on the book - in that they have missed large chunks out and so you jump from one scene to the next with no real explanation. It's a shame that the film does not show more ... Read review
