Concentrate Hard To Keep Up With This One!

Advantages: Good mix of drama/action/suspense and plot explanation, entertaining enough to keep you watching
Disadvantages: Not for the squeamish, subject may offend or bore, may seem far-fetched, subtitles

...people will have heard of The Da Vinci Code, whether that be the original Dan Brown novel or this, the Hollywood movie based on the novel. I got this movie on official DVD along with some others from a relative last year and although I had passed it on to my parents to watch last year sometime, I hadn't watched it myself and it sat in my DVD tower for some time, until I finally decided I just had to watch it recently lol. I was put off watching it ...
...last night. I hadn't read the novel, so I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, other than that the story had alot to do with Christianity and the Bible I believed. I wasn't sure how entertaining it might be but that turned out not to be such an issue. The Da Vinci Codswallop

Advantages: I suppose it would save you reading the novel
Disadvantages: It's utter crap

...Langdon is called in when the curator of the Louvre is found dead in the museum, covered in mysterious sigils. But Langdon soon finds himself framed for the murder and on the run with French cryptologist Sophie Neveu. They are quickly embroiled in a conspiracy far larger than they could ever have imagined; one that could threaten the tenets of Christian belief. But powerful people are determined that the secret remains just that and they are willing ...
...with "The Da Vinci Code". The film takes itself too seriously throughout, which is odd considering the source material is nothing more than an airport/beach novel struck lucky. Had the movie a little more razzle-dazzle or a sense of its own worth as disposable entertainment, it would have fared far better. Unfortunately it is rendered an exceptionally tedious, overlong potboiler by stolid direction. Howard is utterly beholden to the very letter of ...

Howard's Way was right! Happy Days for all!

Advantages: Pretty close to the book
Disadvantages: Predictable (especially if you have read the book!)

Sorry for the naff title but I had to get this in because of the Director Ron Howard (who starred in Happy Days for those younger members of Ciao who have never heard of him). After reading Dan Brown's book (which I have reviewed separately) which was the inspiration for this film, I just had to get my grubby little paws on the DVD. I was that eager to watch it that, the day the DVD was released, I was at the NAAFI the minute it opened and stood ...
...from the stockroom (they were just in and hadn't quite got round to putting the DVD's on the shelves!). Not that I was desperate to see Tom Hanks in action as Robert Langdon - oh no! I wanted to see how true to the book this film was going to be, as the majority of "book to film" adaptations I have seen have had quite a lot of "artistic licence" used to make the film more marketable. I paid 24.99 Euros for this 2-disc set which equates to around ...

Da Vinci Turns In His Grave

Advantages: good acting, impressive effects, interesting concept
Disadvantages: poor scripting, it is just not that good

The Da Vinci Code; 2006; Directed by Ron Howard; Rated 12 Anyone who has heard me speak of The Da Vinci Code will know my opinion on it; an opinion I stand by having seen the movie. This is a fabulous story, brimming with intrigue, scandal and almost managing to pass itself off as fact. The big disappointment is that it was not written very well at all. Now, no disrespect to Dan Brown, he has made an awful lot of money off these books and got his ...
...Anyway, my major gripe with the books was that they read like movies; The Da Vinci Code inparticular. He obviously wrote this with the sole purpose of selling it as a film in later years and from reading the book, you are left thinking, by god this will be a FANTASTIC film. It had real potential.... Had... Sadly though, the Da Vinci Code movie, simply fails to deliver. It misses the "Awesome" mark so widely that it doesn't even graze the target ...

Seek The Truth, Seek The Codes

Advantages: Decent cast and director
Disadvantages: Too many changes and omissions from the original book

The Da Vinci Code seems to have been the biggest phenomenon in the world for the last couple of years. Dan Brown's book appeared out of nowhere and seemed to become an overnight success. Then there was the movie, released earlier this year on Cinema audiences to an enormous amount of hype. It seemed to be targeted at everyone, people who couldn't be bothered to read the book and a chance for those that had to see how it translated to the big screen. ...

So Dark The Con Of Ron

Advantages: Paul Bettany and Sir Ian McKellen
Disadvantages: Poor editing, feels rushed etc.

The DaVinci Code. Dan Brown's multimillion best selling story about Jesus and The Holy Grail has finally been tailored for the big screen and now recently on DVD for the small screen, following in the tradition of many other adaptations such as The Godfather, Lord Of The Rings, Harry Potter etc. Will The DaVinci Code be as good a movie as it was a book or will it just attempt to be a money making picture with no regard for quality or the book's ...

A BIT OF A WET FISH

Advantages: Great cast, fabulous score, good locations.
Disadvantages: Doesn't stick to the book, leaves far too much out, bit disapointing really.

The Da Vinci Code (2006) The film, made in is based on the book of the same title by Dan Brown and charts a 24 hour period in the life of Robert Langdon, a Harvard professor who specialises in symbology. When the curator of the Louvre in Paris is murdered, Langdon is called in to help investigate, little suspecting why he has been asked to help. Nuts for nutters or realists (Film only)

Advantages: I like this sort of thing and it is well done
Disadvantages: This makes you realize how much you miss something half-decent

As noted in the heading this is a review of the film, seen recently on Sky. I have not read the book, but gathered from the media that the story was nonsense. Of course I had also noticed the pre-release 'hype', which is often a bad sign, but now I have seen it I think the film is quite good The Plot '''''''''' You might need to live on the moon not to have heard about the book. Just in case, the story is set in the present but revolves around ...

Disadvantages: Not blockbuster material

Last year the da vinci code became one of the most saught after novels of our time. A fiction story which topped the best sellers charts for months and caused much delibaration and argument around Christianity which ultimately ended up in the high courts. With all of this attention drawn to the excellent novel it was only a metter of time before the film would be made. Assembling a starring cast of Tom Hanks, Ian McKellen, Audrey Tautou, Jean Reno ...

...that Tom Hanks was never the 1st choice for the lead role in this film. Not even 2nd, 3rd, 4th 5th or 6th choice I would have said. And reading the trivia for the film I was gratified to discover my feelings were correct. Jean Reno was excellent as the Opus Dei police inspector but he was a bit clichéd in certain sections ...

"Adventure Film With Brains!"

Advantages: Fun, fast paced and intelligent. A great cast and enjoyable to watch.
Disadvantages: Somewhat of a let down in some respects to the book (but could be worse)

The Da Vinci Code is based on Dan Browns novel (of the same name). Whether you've read the book or not will probably determine what you think of the film. Just like a lot of Book to film adaptations it isn't as good as the book. However, when I first saw the film, I hadn't read the book and I found it to be a pretty good film. Well I must have to have gone out and bought the book. But then watching the film again I realized just how great the book ...
...simply cannot be transferred into the film, however the plot does stay very much intact. I personally think the reason this film may have received some harsh reviews is due to their over expectations of the film. When I first saw the film I thought it was very interesting as well as being fairly fast paced and enjoyable. Tom hanks plays the character Robert Langdon very well just too do the rest of the outstanding cast. But now to more detail about ...

The Da Vinci Abridgement

Advantages: abridged version of the book for lazy people
Disadvantages: all depends if you have read the book

If you have read the book, this should of been the one film which you could not wait to see. If you have not read the book you may of noticed the hype. In my opinion the film in no way lives upto the book but for a fast paced murder thriller it is certainly worth a watch or two. There are only a couple of plot deviations and changes from the book, which for Hollywood is quite good going. To enjoy this movie you do not have to have much knowledge ...

With a good cast led by Tom Hanks and ably supported by Ian Mckellen, Paul Bettany and Jean Reno, this is the story about religion, murder, symbolism and a quest to find the greatest secret of all time. The movie starts with the murder of a curator in the world famous Louvre museum in Paris. With clues and symbolism left at the murder scene, the police ...

Only the readers moan!

Advantages: Pretty decent film
Disadvantages: Poor ending

The Da Vinci Code was a film that I watched at the cinema when it came out, without having read the book. I don't really have enough spare time to read books, I'm not one who can do it on public transport and I tend to prefer films as they manage to squeeze a lot more in a small space of time, therefore the film - adaptation or not, was going to be the only version I came across. I found the Da Vinci Code to be an awesome film, until the last few ...
...and cheesy, it seems that the film had to push it that little bit further beyond belief having told fairly in depth and plausible findings in the earlier parts of the film. Either way, it had that eerie church feel (I always find churches to be scary dark places, the blood splattered Jesus' don't exactly welcome you!) as if you didn't know what was round the next corner, the actors did superb jobs with the adaptable Tom Hanks taking the main role ...

We Brought the DVD a few weeks after it was realeased. After all the hype, it was a bit of a let down. However, having read the book before hand, it was slightly impressive and I could just about work out what was happening.
