Dr. Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks, FORREST GUMP) and cryptologist Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou, AMELIE) set out to uncover the truth about The Holy Grail, encountering a mysterious...
more...ancient society on the way. Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is on business in Paris when he is called to the Louvre, where a curator he was due to meet has been murdered. There he meets police cryptologist Sophie Neveu, the granddaughter of the murdered curator. A number of symbols and riddles have been found at the murder scene and the duo set about solving the complex mystery. However, Bezu Fache (Jean Reno, LEON)--the police officer in charge of the investigation--believes that Langdon is implicated in the killing. This leads to Langdon being chased by the French police as he attempts to solve the mystery by following secret clues found in the works of artist Leonardo Da Vinci. Langdon and Neveu escape to England to continue their search for clues in the mystery that has the possibility to upset the very foundations of Christianity, a search that brings them into conflict with Catholic organisation Opus Dei and their dangerous monk Silas (Paul Bettany, GANGSTER NO. 1). Screenwriter Akiva Goldsman (I, ROBOT) manages to transform Dan Brown's tremendously successful novel into a thrilling and fast paced script that is expertly directed by Ron Howard (APOLLO 13). The film was the target of criticism by the Roman Catholic Church but this didn't stop THE DA VINCI CODE becoming a worldwide smash hit.

Advantages: I suppose it would save you reading the novel
Disadvantages: It's utter crap

But Langdon soon finds himself framed for the murder and on the run with French cryptologist Sophie Neveu. Howard's Way was right! Happy Days for all!
Review of The Da Vinci Code DVD by bonsi6337

Advantages: Pretty close to the book
Disadvantages: Predictable (especially if you have read the book!)

Sorry for the naff title but I had to get this in because of the Director Ron Howard (who starred in Happy Days for those younger members of Ciao who have never heard of him). After reading Dan Brown's book (which I have reviewed separately) which was the inspiration for this film, I just had to get my grubby little paws on the DVD. I was that eager to watch it that, the day the DVD was released, I was at the NAAFI the minute it opened and stood waiting ... Read review

Da Vinci Turns In His Grave
Review of The Da Vinci Code DVD by cocoklo

Advantages: good acting, impressive effects, interesting concept
Disadvantages: poor scripting, it is just not that good

The Da Vinci Code; 2006; Directed by Ron Howard; Rated 12 Anyone who has heard me speak of The Da Vinci Code will know my opinion on it; an opinion I stand by having seen the movie. This is a fabulous story, brimming with intrigue, scandal and almost managing to pass itself off as fact. The big disappointment is that it was not written very well at all. Now, no disrespect to Dan Brown, he has made an awful lot of money off these books and got ... Read review

Seek The Truth, Seek The Codes
Review of The Da Vinci Code DVD by Andy.mack

Advantages: Decent cast and director
Disadvantages: Too many changes and omissions from the original book

The Da Vinci Code seems to have been the biggest phenomenon in the world for the last couple of years. Dan Brown's book appeared out of nowhere and seemed to become an overnight success. Then there was the movie, released earlier this year on Cinema audiences to an enormous amount of hype. It seemed to be targeted at everyone, people who couldn't be bothered to read the book and a chance for those that had to see how it translated to the big screen. ... Read review

So Dark The Con Of Ron
Review of The Da Vinci Code DVD by blackman007

Advantages: Paul Bettany and Sir Ian McKellen
Disadvantages: Poor editing, feels rushed etc.

The DaVinci Code. Dan Brown's multimillion best selling story about Jesus and The Holy Grail has finally been tailored for the big screen and now recently on DVD for the small screen, following in the tradition of many other adaptations such as The Godfather, Lord Of The Rings, Harry Potter etc. Will The DaVinci Code be as good a movie as it was a book or will it just attempt to be a money making picture with no regard for quality or the book's ... A BIT OF A WET FISH
Review of The Da Vinci Code DVD by phoenixgreen

Advantages: Great cast, fabulous score, good locations.
Disadvantages: Doesn't stick to the book, leaves far too much out, bit disapointing really.

The Da Vinci Code (2006) The film, made in is based on the book of the same title by Dan Brown and charts a 24 hour period in the life of Robert Langdon, a Harvard professor who specialises in symbology. When the curator of the Louvre in Paris is murdered, Langdon is called in to help investigate, little suspecting why he has been asked to help. Along with the granddaughter of Jacques Sauntiere, the dead curator, he begins an exhilarating quest ... Read review

Breaking the code
Review of The Da Vinci Code DVD by bilbob20

Advantages: The film looks good
Disadvantages: Its all a bit hit and miss

...stranded on an iceberg near the sinking of the Titanic not to have heard of Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code, a book that questions the basis of Christianity and whether the holy grail is indeed an existing blood line or not. The book itself has shifted a zillion copies despite actually not really being that well written. Here, the text finds itself into film adaption, and a faithful one it is. Tom Hanks, the only actor known to Ron Howard, takes on ... Read review

Nuts for nutters or realists (Film only)
Review of The Da Vinci Code DVD by tranx

Advantages: I like this sort of thing and it is well done
Disadvantages: This makes you realize how much you miss something half-decent

As noted in the heading this is a review of the film, seen recently on Sky. I have not read the book, but gathered from the media that the story was nonsense. Of course I had also noticed the pre-release 'hype', which is often a bad sign, but now I have seen it I think the film is quite good The Plot ' You might need to live on the moon not to have heard about the book. Just in case, the story is set in the present but revolves around ... Read review

Painting by numbers
Review of The Da Vinci Code DVD by pdoyle007

Advantages: Good supporting cast
Disadvantages: Not blockbuster material

Last year the da vinci code became one of the most saught after novels of our time. A fiction story which topped the best sellers charts for months and caused much delibaration and argument around Christianity which ultimately ended up in the high courts. With all of this attention drawn to the excellent novel it was only a metter of time before the film would be made. Assembling a starring cast of Tom Hanks, Ian McKellen, Audrey Tautou, Jean Reno ... "Adventure Film With Brains!"
Review of The Da Vinci Code DVD by MattMan101

Advantages: Fun, fast paced and intelligent. A great cast and enjoyable to watch.
Disadvantages: Somewhat of a let down in some respects to the book (but could be worse)

The Da Vinci Code is based on Dan Browns novel (of the same name). Whether you've read the book or not will probably determine what you think of the film. Just like a lot of Book to film adaptations it isn't as good as the book. However, when I first saw the film, I hadn't read the book and I found it to be a pretty good film. Well I must have to have gone out and bought the book. But then watching the film again I realized just how great the book ... Read review

The Da Vinci Abridgement
Review of The Da Vinci Code DVD by belgarion04

Advantages: abridged version of the book for lazy people
Disadvantages: all depends if you have read the book

If you have read the book, this should of been the one film which you could not wait to see. If you have not read the book you may of noticed the hype. In my opinion the film in no way lives upto the book but for a fast paced murder thriller it is certainly worth a watch or two. There are only a couple of plot deviations and changes from the book, which for Hollywood is quite good going. To enjoy this movie you do not have to have much knowledge ... Read review

Review of The Da Vinci Code DVD by smudgehamster

Advantages: Fabulous cast and the acting is brilliant
Disadvantages: It's difficult to follow if you arn't aware of the story plot

We Brought the DVD a few weeks after it was realeased. After all the hype, it was a bit of a let down. However, having read the book before hand, it was slightly impressive and I could just about work out what was happening. The action was good and their was a lot of symbolysm used in the film to make it more effective - though i must explain that i didn't notice it until i watched the special features on the bonus disk. The story line, as i mentioned ... Read review

Dan Brown brought to life
Review of The Da Vinci Code DVD by supercam12

Advantages: Brilliant cast. Excellant bonus features
Disadvantages: Very Fast Paced, may leave newcomers behind

At last the long awaited book has been brought to the big screen and I have to say I think it will fascinate newcomers and disapoint those who are big fans of the book. The problem with a book as famous as The Da Vinci code is that when you read it, you conjour up your own ideas and visualisations of characters and locations and these can be destroyed when a director puts his own interpretation onto big screen for all to see. The cast are fantastic ... Read review

Advantages: pretty faithful to the original Dan Brown book, keeps your attention, nice locations
Disadvantages: maybe a bit long

After the mysterious murder in the Paris Louvre reknown Dr. Robert Langdon gets called in to help with the investigation of a curator. There he meets Agent Sophie Neveu, who as a cryptologist seems to also have been called to the scene of the crime. As it turns out Robert is actually a murder suspect and Captan Bezu Fache has a special reason to suspect this- an underhand info of a member of Opus Dei. Da Vinci Code
Review of The Da Vinci Code DVD by mummyd83

Advantages: Mysterious, left the the view guessing
Disadvantages: Movie maybe could have been cut a little shorter

I must say I feel the book was alot better than the movie. However I liked the fact the the movie elaborated on scenes from the book. After watching the Da Vinci Code, I feel like I had a better understanding of the characters and what they were about. This movie in my opinion was good, and was well played by Tom Hanks and Sophie Neveu. There is alot of scepticism about this movie and questioning certain details of religion. I do not think that is ... Read review
