Advantages: Good mix of drama/action/suspense and plot explanation, entertaining enough to keep you watching Disadvantages: Not for the squeamish, subject may offend or bore, may seem far-fetched, subtitles
...people will have heard of The Da Vinci Code, whether that be the original Dan Brown novel or this, the Hollywood movie based on the novel. I got this movie on official DVD along with some others from a relative last year and although I had passed it on to my parents to watch last year sometime, I hadn't watched it myself and it sat in my DVD tower for some time, until I finally decided I just had to watch it recently lol. I was put off watching it ...

Advantages: Pretty close to the book Disadvantages: Predictable (especially if you have read the book!)
Sorry for the naff title but I had to get this in because of the Director Ron Howard (who starred in Happy Days for those younger members of Ciao who have never heard of him). After reading Dan Brown's book (which I have reviewed separately) which was the inspiration for this film, I just had to get my grubby little paws on the DVD. I was that eager to watch it that, the day the DVD was released, I was at the NAAFI the minute it opened and stood waiting ...

The Da Vinci Code; 2006; Directed by Ron Howard; Rated 12
Anyone who has heard me speak of The Da Vinci Code will know my opinion on it; an opinion I stand by having seen the movie. This is a fabulous story, brimming with intrigue, scandal and almost managing to pass itself off as fact. The big disappointment is that it was not written very well at all.
Now, no disrespect to Dan Brown, he has made an awful lot of money off these books and got ...

Advantages: Decent cast and director Disadvantages: Too many changes and omissions from the original book
The Da Vinci Code seems to have been the biggest phenomenon in the world for the last couple of years. Dan Brown's book appeared out of nowhere and seemed to become an overnight success. Then there was the movie, released earlier this year on Cinema audiences to an enormous amount of hype. It seemed to be targeted at everyone, people who couldn't be bothered to read the book and a chance for those that had to see how it translated to the big screen. ...

The DaVinci Code.
Dan Brown's multimillion best selling story about Jesus and The Holy Grail has finally been tailored for the big screen and now recently on DVD for the small screen, following in the tradition of many other adaptations such as The Godfather, Lord Of The Rings, Harry Potter etc. Will The DaVinci Code be as good a movie as it was a book or will it just attempt to be a money making picture with no regard for quality or the book's ...

The Da Vinci Code (2006)
The film, made in is based on the book of the same title by Dan Brown and charts a 24 hour period in the life of Robert Langdon, a Harvard professor who specialises in symbology. When the curator of the Louvre in Paris is murdered, Langdon is called in to help investigate, little suspecting why he has been asked to help. Along with the granddaughter of Jacques Sauntiere, the dead curator, he begins an exhilarating quest ...

...stranded on an iceberg near the sinking of the Titanic not to have heard of Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code, a book that questions the basis of Christianity and whether the holy grail is indeed an existing blood line or not. The book itself has shifted a zillion copies despite actually not really being that well written. Here, the text finds itself into film adaption, and a faithful one it is. Tom Hanks, the only actor known to Ron Howard, takes on ...

Advantages: I like this sort of thing and it is well done Disadvantages: This makes you realize how much you miss something half-decent
As noted in the heading this is a review of the film, seen recently on Sky. I have not read the book, but gathered from the media that the story was nonsense. Of course I had also noticed the pre-release 'hype', which is often a bad sign, but now I have seen it I think the film is quite good

Last year the da vinci code became one of the most saught after novels of our time. A fiction story which topped the best sellers charts for months and caused much delibaration and argument around Christianity which ultimately ended up in the high courts.
With all of this attention drawn to the excellent novel it was only a metter of time before the film would be made. Assembling a starring cast of Tom Hanks, Ian McKellen, Audrey Tautou, Jean Reno ...

I totally didn't recognise Audrey Tatou but she was excellent in her role & out performed Hanks in every scene they were both in. Jean Reno was excellent as the Opus Dei police inspector but he was a bit clichéd in certain sections ...

Advantages: Fun, fast paced and intelligent. A great cast and enjoyable to watch. Disadvantages: Somewhat of a let down in some respects to the book (but could be worse)
The Da Vinci Code is based on Dan Browns novel (of the same name). Whether you've read the book or not will probably determine what you think of the film. Just like a lot of Book to film adaptations it isn't as good as the book. However, when I first saw the film, I hadn't read the book and I found it to be a pretty good film. Well I must have to have gone out and bought the book. But then watching the film again I realized just how great the book ...

Advantages: abridged version of the book for lazy people Disadvantages: all depends if you have read the book
If you have read the book, this should of been the one film which you could not wait to see. If you have not read the book you may of noticed the hype.
In my opinion the film in no way lives upto the book but for a fast paced murder thriller it is certainly worth a watch or two. There are only a couple of plot deviations and changes from the book, which for Hollywood is quite good going.
To enjoy this movie you do not have to have much knowledge ...

Advantages: Pretty decent film Disadvantages: Poor ending
The Da Vinci Code was a film that I watched at the cinema when it came out, without having read the book. I don't really have enough spare time to read books, I'm not one who can do it on public transport and I tend to prefer films as they manage to squeeze a lot more in a small space of time, therefore the film - adaptation or not, was going to be the only version I came across.
I found the Da Vinci Code to be an awesome film, until the last few ...

We Brought the DVD a few weeks after it was realeased. After all the hype, it was a bit of a let down. However, having read the book before hand, it was slightly impressive and I could just about work out what was happening. The action was good and their was a lot of symbolysm used in the film to make it more effective - though i must explain that i didn't notice it until i watched the special features on the bonus disk.
