It's honest, that's it. It's honest.

Advantages: An excellent commedy drama packed full of incredible songs.
Disadvantages: Lots of swear words.

'''My Reasons For Purchasing The Commitments Film:''' This has to be one of the best Comedy-Dramas of 1991 in my opinion. The Commitments is a really great film and it is based on the novel written by Roddy Doyle. It was released on August the 14th 1991 in Ireland and in the UK. The Commitments runs for 118 minutes. It was directed by Alan Parker who also directed "Fame" and Pink Floyds "The Wall" This film was also produced by Lynda Myles and Roger ...
...of unexpected little pleasures along the way. ===Space lol=== The Commitments film is an infectious story about a group of unemployed young people from the north of Dublin in Ireland who start up a rhythm-and-blues band. It really has a very good storyline to it, with lots of great acting, funny scenes and has plenty of great songs performed throughout it also. I first watched this film as a teenager and I really was amazed by how similar some of ...

Soul Commitment

Advantages: Excellent soundtrack, and fun film
Disadvantages: No really well known actors,

...they do get weary, Wearing the same old shabby dress, But when she gets weary, try a little tenderness." INTERESTING CHARACTERS: THE COMMITMENTS I remember with fond memories, seeing this 1991 film a good few years back. Bought the soundtrack CD in Woolworth's about 5 years ago. Now after enjoying many hours listening to the tracks, I was really pleased to find the DVD of the film on sale in my local Tesco yesterday for £5.97, and having just ...
...of favourite films. THE FILM: Based on the book by Roddy Doyle, director Alan Parker chose the cast from Dublin's unknown actors, (apart from Colm Meaney). It's a story about the formation of an Irish soul band, highlighting the struggles to find employment, and a better way of life in the poorest of Dublin's fair City. The young singers and musicians get together with the help of Jimmy Rabbitte, who fancy's himself as a bit of an entrepreneur, ...

The Saviours Of Soul

Advantages: Great comedy, great music, great cast, not a seconds worth of entertainment wasted
Disadvantages: Lots of swearing - avoid if easily offended !

We are the saviours of soul…… The backstreets of the Northside of Dublin may seem like an unusual setting for a pop rags to riches film, but I have always thought that a good story will always win when put up against the latest Hollywood, special effects laden blockbuster to roll off the US production line. Jimmy Rabbitte is a would be pop svengali, a repsected character on the Dublin band scene, but not enough to be paid well for it. ...
...up with performing standards at the roughest wedding receptions. When they ask Jimmy to be their manager, Jimmy suggests the unlikely new lead singer in the form of a drunk wedding guest who grabs the mike during Derek and Outspan’s performance. Despite the guest Deco’s alcohol stupor, he has a voice to kill for and is recruited the next day ! Jimmy orders his new bandmates to ditch their repetoire and concentrate on soul, banning them ...

A must see

Advantages: A must see classic, with quality music throughout, good acting with superb characters
Disadvantages: Don't eat your tea whilst looking at the lead singer, it may put you off your food

The theme of the film is the coming together of musicians all who are down on there luck! All live in a hard up district of Dublin, each bringing a unique role to the film. The Myriad of characteristics ensures you are always anticipating how the relationships between the characters will flourosh or fall. The film starts with unemployed Jimmy, a bit of a Jack the lad who dreams and longs for better things. The music of his choice is soul, an interesting ...
...who could add soul to the make up of the group. The first 2 members to join the group are 2 of Jimmys old friends Outspan, (named I suppose due to his ginger hair) and Derek, both who are playing small parties with an out of tune lead singer. Jimmy calls upon another old school friend a chubby girl who works at the local chip stand and asks for her good looking friend to also attend rehearsals. The third girl Natalie also joins through these 2. ...

Musical masterpiece

Advantages: Fantastic script and songs
Disadvantages: none

...acting with brilliant music, but the Alan Parker film, The Commitments, released in 1991, manages to do just that. The Commitments tells the story of a young man, Jimmy Rabbitte (Robert Arkins), who decides to put together a soul music band. Jimmy searches his hometown of Barrytown, in Dublin for band members and it is not long before The Commitments are ready to perform. The band are a motley collection of musicians, featuring a talented lead singer, ...
...Murphy), who is a womaniser. The rest of the band has similar issues which cause conflict within the band and threaten to split the band before they can achieve any success. This is a wonderful film that has some fantastic music, such as the song "Mustang Sally". The script is written by Dick Clement, Ian La Frenais and Roddy Doyle, who deliver a excellent script, based on a novel by Roddy Doyle. The additional cast includes Colm Meaney, who appears ...

"I'm Black and I'm Proud"

Advantages: Great Music, entertaining story
Disadvantages: Strong language

...together. He has heard that the Irish are the blacks of Europe, and therefore his motto is "I'm black and I'm proud". With no musical talent himself he arranges an audition and puts together band for which he is the Manager. He really thinks big and in the shower he talks to himself as he has imaginary interviews with journalists from pop magazines... The film is about the rise and fall of the 10 piece Soul band, the Commitments. The ego-centric ...
...the older trumpet player with bad breath who manages to get cozy with all the three girls of the band, and the others band members are interesting characters to see (and hear) in action, and you get to hear lots of great Soul music. In my opinion the Commitments music is better than the original artists' (Wilson Picket, Otis Redding et al). The film follows them from the start when they hardly know how to play until the time when they are making ...
