Well it's not billiards

Advantages: Newman and Cruise
Disadvantages: Slightly predictable story

...him and his girlfriend on the road, learning the trade of a Pool hustler in the Pool halls and bars, with a promise of making some serious money, ending up in a huge legitimate Pool competition. Unfortunately, Vince is a fiery young man, who cannot see the bigger picture, especially when he is told that he must loose before he can win. After a while of being educated and guided by Eddie, he decides he has had enough and will go it on his own. In ...
...is also going to enter the Pool competition, and ultimately end up playing his prodigy. The Color of Money is the 1986 sequel to the 1961 film "The Hustler" starring Paul Newman as the young Eddie Felson. Where as in "The Hustler" we get to see Eddie experiencing the good and the bad side of hustling, in The Color of Money, Eddie becomes a teacher who demonstrates everything he has learnt to his young prodigy, but at the same time he rediscovers ...

Another Helping of Classic Newman

Advantages: Great Movie
Disadvantages: Nothing in the way of extras

If you read the synopsis that accompanies the product listing for this DVD, you won't need me to tell you that the movie is about professional pool players in the USA. A breed we here in the UK know little about. Although this film is obviously an early vehicle for the blossoming acting skills of a talented young actor called Tom Cruise, the central storyline relies heavily on the viewer having seen his co-star Paul Newman's B&W classic "The Hustler". ...

In it Newman is the rookie pool player, and actor, who in both guises finds himself out of his league, but with so much raw talent that he almost beats everyone, including then superstar George C. Scott, at their own game. He's the archetypal 'Angry Young Man' whose naive arrogance gives him on the one hand the ...

A sequel worth watching!!!

Advantages: Fantastically acted, great style and charisma about the film
Disadvantages: None of note

...'The Hustler originally released in the early sixties then this basically is a continuation from that, for those of you that havent it is as the film title would suggest about a Fast but brilliant pool hustler that goes round making money etc by hustling rich folk and winning competitions. The main character in the original Hustler movie Fast Eddie Felzon is now a middle aged man who has pretty much finished in the world of pool but he one day comes ...
...at a younger age. The problem is the young kid has no control, he makes it very obvious when he is hustling and doesn;t know how to allow a few games to be lost before winning for the bigger stake, He just keeps winning as he hates losing. The young kid who is in this film played by a very young Tom Cruise is late teens early 20's sort of age and Fast Eddie (Paul Newman) decides to get him onside and teach him how to hustle like a pro. Enough about ...
