~ He was the perfect weapon until he became the target ~ The Bourne Identity The Bourne collection is one of my favourite types of films and I own a special edition box set with all three films. The first of the trilogy- The Bourne Indentity I thought was brilliant and it was successful. I first watched this film when it first came out on DVD and I rented it from the video shop. The film is always on TV now and ive seen it so many times. I am a fan of Matt Damon and love some of his films including Dogma and Saving Private Ryan so the film when advertised really appealed to me. The story is ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor remaining cast

Another day and another film review, over the weekend I had been incredibly bored so instead of doing the usual sit at the computer all day I actually decided to watch a couple of films. Of course yesterdays op was Welcome To Collinwood, today’s is going to be a film that I’ve been a big fan of since it’s release in the cinema. Adapted from a Robert Ludlum novel The Bourne Identity hit our screens in 2002, as an adaptation of this book, which I must say now I haven’t read, so can’t comment on how it compares. A crew of fishermen find a body (Matt Damon) floating ... more

Ah, the spy. Bane of all European would-be dictators and cat stroking baldies the world over, they slip in and out of rooms (and women) undetected, with nary a scratch on their pristine hides or a ruffle in their slicked-back hair. “I expect you to perish!” scream the enemies whilst women cream their gusset after seeing men being beaten to death. You gotta love spy movies, because they lend ordinary folks the demeanour of super-heroes with their world-saving antics, unlikely stunts and downright infallibility. So step into your martini and sip an ice-cold tuxedo for the latest ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages The ending was a bit tepid

When the crew of a trawler spot a distress beacon floating in the water off the coast of France, they are shocked to find that the beacon is attached to the body of a young man. Unconscious, and injured from extensive bullet wounds, the man’s body yields no clues as to his identity. When he awakes, he is suffering from amnesia, but the crew tend to his wounds, and offer him passage to shore. The only clue to his identity lies in a computer chip, implanted beneath his skin, which contains the details of a secret French bank account. Arriving on the French mainland, the man tracks down the ... more

The Bourne Identity is a film from the first of three books written by Robert Ludlum about CIA agent Jason Bourne. Ludlum, who has written nearly two dozen best sellers, was also the Executive Producer for the film. The film is directed by Doug Liman who has Swingers and Go under his belt. He has certainly had long term experience in filming as he started making short films at the tender age of seven and on into junior high school! The general plot isn't complicated so I can give you a rough idea of the plot without ruining the whole movie for you. The simple plot does not make the movie ... more

Advantages Advantages Franka Potente and the scenes without Matt Damon.

Disadvantages Disadvantages I bet Matt Damon wishes he really did have amnesia, then he could forget about Good Will Hunting.

The beauty of The Fugitive was that we didn’t know the whole story until the very end of the movie and therefore all the tension builds up until it explodes in the wonderful finale. We know that he’s innocent and we know who did it, but we don’t know why. All the secrets are kept secret until the final showdown because it makes for entertaining cinema. Minority Report is similar (hero on the run, suspected killer, breathtaking final revelations) and manages the same trick as The Fugitive, keeping the audience spellbound until the very end. Out of the whole genre of wrongly accused/heroes on ... more

Advantages Advantages Generally good action and fight scenes.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Lacklustre conclusion.

The Bourne Identity is one of those spy, secret agent type, action movies with a young fresh faced Matt Damon in the leading role, delivering a performance that roughly translates as "Hey there Schwarzenegger, Stallone and Willis, mines bigger than yours!" Well, something like that. Anyway, maybe he thought he could top Ben Affleck's The Sum of All Fears. Directed by - Doug Liman Starring - Matt Damon, Franka Potente, Chris Cooper, Clive Owen, Brian Cox, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Gabriel Mann, Julia Stiles, Tim Dutton Length - 118 minutes Cert - 12A On a stormy night a wounded young man ... more

Imagine that you suddenly wake up and you can't remember who the hell you are, or what your life has been like. Then you find out soon afterwards that a bunch of security blokes are trying to kill you, and you don't have a clue why. I could imagine you'd be a little cheesed off. But this is the problem the man in the Bourne Identity faces. Discovered unconscious by a fishing boat in the Mediterranean Sea, the crew of the boat initially thought the man (played by Matt Damon) was dead. But eventually this man wakes up, disorientated and confused. Why was he on this boat? More importantly, who on ... more
