Advantages: None Disadvantages: I paid to watch it
Picture the scene - Halloween, pumpkin in the window glowing away and a group of friends round for a suposedly scary film.
This was our house - apart from the scary film bit. We booked it through the Sky Box Office thinking it would be a good film to watch on such a spooky evening, as probably thousands of other people did too.
What we actually watched was the biggest pile of pants I have ever seen in my life - second only to the Cube.
Within ... ...the woman, who's name I can;t even remember because it was such a memorable film. Non stop screaming and shouting, very dodgy camera work and a plot with more holes that a tea bag.
For those who haven't had the misfortune to watch this film, the plot is simple - a group of 3 people go into the woods to make a documentary about the so-called Blair Witch. Off they trek, and every morning when they wake up and get out of their tents, someone/something ...

Advantages: Atmosphere Disadvantages: you'll either hate it or love it
As horror films go, The Blair Witch Project is a simple enough premise. 3 people are lost in the wood and a witch kills them. Not groundbreaking stuff, but the secret is in the execution. This is what really has divided the public. As you never see the witch, you are forced to draw your own conclusions as to what this ambiguous thing is that’s hunting them down.
If you would prefer a special effect or simple closure by seeing something on screen, ...

...want to wonder around in the dark alone. Made in the style of a high school documentary cleverly introduced before the film begins. The film is very engrossing and you will get lost in it, the use of black and white footage is a stroke of genius and adds to the overall effect of the film. Although it is not graphic the film leaves it up to your imagination to scare yourself with and uses the element of unknown to introduce more fear. There are limited ...

...bright pink, flashing neon across the screen. This is quite simply the worst effort I have ever seen put to film. I've seen better from first year art students. Myrick and Sanchez are credited with writing and directing this farce.... Did they sped their entire time (and the films budget) in the pub?
No direction, little story, less acting ability, not even any great scenery. There is little atmosphere and as for its supposed 'scaryness' I've seen ...

Thumbs up for the biggest hype created by a bunch of teenagers in horror history. The film itself though: What a load of rubbish! Now, how on earth could anyone call this amateur production scary? Is it supposed to be a horror film or a comedy? Made by a small company in Florida called Haxan Films, which consists of several young men who are all die-hard horror buffs, The Blair Witch Project is being hyped in a major way by the industry. It’s ... ...budget. Here is the story: Three college students, Heather, Mike and Josh, decide to make a short film for a class project. There is a local legend about the ghost of a witch, who haunts the woods in the township of Blair. The students decide to interview local residents about this incredible legend, and try to find the site of the witch's house in the woods. Besides the fact they are not well equipped, only one map, which they lose, a camera and ...

With one of the lowest budgets of 99 this turned out to be one of the best of the year. A cast of 3 and no special effects, this film just creates suspense that will have you on the edge of your seat. Lost in a huge forest with no map and somekind of supernatural being haunting you every time the sun goes down. This is probably most peoples worst nightmare. The film has a fairly slow start with just interviews with people of the town, this is virtually ... ...minutes. Suddenly the film seems to get going when they become aware that they are trending deeper into the forest and don’t know where their going. The map is lost and at when the sun goes down there are strange sounds surrounding their tent. In the morning they find strange stones which seem to have appeared from nowhere. As tension increases they await nightfall and, once again, the situation becomes worse. Something is following them and children’s ...

...styles on a tiny budget, The Blair Witch Project is an amazing achievement. Not only is it the first film in which the actors themselves shot the film it's also a harrowing, genuinely disturbing freakout of a horror show that eschews the rampant gore and clever irony of most modern fright-fests in favor of internalized terror. Reports of audience members at test screenings becoming agitated and nauseous due in part to the film's crazed first-person ...

...I began watching thinking that the film would be utter tripe. I was wrong.
Where as most people went to the cinema a year ago, totally expectant of something brilliant, I had no false expectations. The movie for me was interesting, demanding and very revolutionary in the area of cameraship. I am interested in the work that goes on behind the camera, as well as infront, and admire the dirctors for taking a chance with Blair Witch. The video-camera ... ...watch films in this style, thus it seems much more real. Ok, some of the plot-lines are unbelievable, but this is not what this movie is about. Advantages: A good original film. Disadvantages: Makes u feel a bit sick!
The Blair Witch Project is a recant film about a trio of film makers who wander off into the legendary haunted woods to make a documentary about The Blair Witch, the witch that is meant to inhabit the area. Then one by one the film crew disappear.....the plot lands the remaining person led to the witches "house2 where she is in for a bit of a shock.
What makes this film scary is the fact that you are made to believe that this is real footage, and ... ...it lived up to all the hype that it was given, sure it was a good film but it did fail in some parts. I would recommend this film to a friend if they wanted to have a little bit of a scare, but not so much that you are hiding under the sofa all noght long. It is also quite chilling in some parts and I suppose, yes it was quite well put together.
Overall a good film with some scary parts but not overly shocking. ...

Advantages: unnerving, psychologically scary Disadvantages: hand held camera
The Blair Witch Project is a truly scary, edge of the seat/behind the sofa film. It's one of the most ironic horror films as the thing we are all most scared of, we never actually see.
For those of you who've been in a cave for the last year and have no clue about the story, it's about three young people who go into the woods to make a documentary about the Blair Witch and her existance. Stories are told beforehand-pay attention, they help to understand ... ...The three students never come back.
On a rescue mission a video tape is found-their documentary/diary which is what the film is.
It's shot completely on hand held camera so motion sickness can impede the watchability but it's a completely original way to shoot a film and that's why it made so much, because it cost almost nothing to make.
It was a good move to use unknown actors, who actually went to te wood and were subjected to longer days, less ...

...alot of people has seen the Blair Witch project. I saw it in the first week of opening and surprisingly I thought it was well made. I am a person that does not just think of the money put into the film, orwho is in the film, or even if any computer graphics has been put into it. One of the best film for a low budget. It’s like something we would do on a school project and it’s exactly that, standard as well. But, we expect more from movies, if they’re scary and horror films we want them to be just that. To scare the living day lights out of us, to live long and hard in the memory. To get scared at nights when we think about that. That’s what a scary film does. So did the Blair Witch Project do that?, ... ...had the correct settings for horror. A dark congested forest, loads of eerie noises and panic amongst the four students. There was the myth of witches and the fact people had gone missing. But there was not enough excitement, perhaps for a twelve year old but to a 19 year old, it held no fear nor got anywhere close. I just felt dizzy, watching the camera, it really gave me a headache. It was well marketed though, and it was the talking point of everyone, ...

I want to make my own opinions about something, not copy the media. So along I went to see the Blair Witch Project, fully aware of it bad press and poor reviews. However, what I saw was a truly chilling tale that was frighteningly real, thanks to some wonderful camerawork and the first-person perspective ... ...they are simply not in the slightest bit scary. The film also had a well written plot running throughout the duration, do you know what it reminded me of? When you were young, your grandparents would sit you on their knee and tell you of local myths and legends that had such an affect on you, you wouldn't be able to sleep for days. Things like that are scary because it is a real person who has told you, and you believe them, whether it is true or ...
