I brought this disc from the states withut actually seeing the film first. I figured even if I didn't like it I's still own a piece of film which cause quite a stir in Hollywood. Anyway, if there was ever a case of hype killing a film then this is it. It couldn't possibly live up to the hype that our US friends gave it. And it didn't. For me anyway. ...that I wasn't shocked once! The effects of being made on a home video didn't bother me, which I understand did bother some people. I soon adjusted to that. What did bother me was the lack of action. I waited throughout the film for something exciting to happen and nothing did. What little action there was didn't impress me at all. The movie did not scare me at all. But I really respect the filmmakers for what they managed to acheive. Picture = 7 The film was shot on a hi8 camcorder and a 16mm camera. ...fake blood and other gore. The witch of the title never shows her face, no deaths are seen on screen and most of 'action' involves piles of stones on the forest floor. Not, one would expect, the stuff of nightmares.

Yet despite this the fim does manage to be quite frightening. I'm not sure why. Perhaps it's the docummentary style of the filming. Perhaps it's because the characters seem real. Perhaps its easy to imagine how we would react if ...
...title of the film is what's wrong with the movie. Everyone expects to see the witch, or some evidence of supernatural events, and for those people the climax will only be a let down. If the audience were not conditioned to expect anything supernatural the film takes on a whole new atmoshere as the three filmmakers are lost and stalked in the woods.

I would recommend this film to anyone who wants to see someting different, or has an open mind. ...
