Blur witch project

Advantages: see text
Disadvantages: see text

...I'm always seeing boogeymen everywhere. The idea of someone stalking me in the woods should have me clinging to my seat, right? Well...in theory. In practice, The Blair Witch Project is less scary than that Girl Scout sleep over I had when I was nine, and more childish. The premise: 3 students head into the woods at the request of Heather the Filmmaker, in order to find something out about the Blair Witch, a mythical being who killed some children, ...
...not a big issue), and the guys are just there for her to order around, until everyone gets lost and they start seeing creepy sticks and stones outside their tent. Obviously something or someone is in the woods with them, and now the three need to get out alive. The problem lies in the fact that not only are the three main characters horribly annoying, they're also just not that bright. Apparently Heather, Mike and Josh were sent into the woods to ...

Most Overhyped film EVER

Advantages: It was original and pretty decent
Disadvantages: Over-hyped, not enough scary parts, too short, etc

...like to know what all the hype about this film was all about, don’t get me wrong I think it was half-decent, but nowhere near as good or spooky as a lot of people make out. Anyway the story goes…. Heather Donahue, Michael Williams and Joshua Leonard, are three film making students to whom set out to shoot a documentary, about the local legend of the “The Blair Witch” deep in the forests of Maryland, USA. Legend has it many ...
...avoid going too deep into the woods. So, the party sets out to look for facts that prove the legend exists, equipped only with two cameras and a little hiking gear and not much food, only to get lost deep in the forest and losing there map. That’s when all the strange happenings begin. Firstly, they find little piles of stone that must have been arranged artificially, Scary sounds at night and more piles of stones in place outside their tent, ...

Blair Witch Project

Advantages: Horror
Disadvantages: Filming

My essay is concerning the Blair Witch Project which I will call BWP along with that is it a horror or documentary and how it is filmed to look that way. Well following I have watched this film at last I now identify that it is a horror however at primary impressions in the first 30 minutes it seems to be a documentary for the reason that of the technique it is designed out and filmed, it merely has two cameras which will provide you a hint that ...
...out whilst they are interviewing the community and largely significantly in the forest. You will barely see two out of the three scholars usually since one of them are filming however in professionally complete movies or documentaries each and every one of the characters that be required to be there are there and someone behind the camera is never shown since they are not in the screenplay. The approaches of the way the actors are behaving provide ...

A cleverly promoted and original movie

Advantages: Originala nd cleverly promoted
Disadvantages: Predictable. The shaky camera movements.

...totally different to all of the other scary movies about at the moment. It’s basically about three amateur filmmakers (whose names – Heather, Josh and Mike – were taken from the actors that play them) who plan to spend a weekend shooting a documentary in the woods of Burkittsville (formally Blair) about the legendary Blair witch, but ended up getting lost and never finding their way out again. The film is supposed to be the footage ...
...When The Blair Witch project first came out, there was a lot of hype and plenty of rumours going round; that the footage was real, it was based on a true legend, etc, the reality of it, is that it is in fact, as far as I know, just a very cleverly put together and promoted movie. What makes it different is that the whole thing was supposedly improvised; there was no script. The producers simply found three untrained, though totally convincing, actors, ...

Believe the hype

Advantages: Top quality scary movie
Disadvantages: Not long enough

...say, my recent review of The Last Broadcast made me think of this so here I go… As a huge fan of the film I had to pick up this DVD and it certainly lives up to the standard of the film. In case you haven’t heard the plot I will give a brief synopsis. Three filmmakers head out into the woods outside a small town called Burkittsville. The plan is to make a documentary about a local legend – The Blair Witch. Needless to say the ...
...groundbreaking film that took over the country months before it went on release due to massive hype. Film mainly on camcorder, and the actors mainly improvising, it has an amazing realistic feel (it was believed my some (in the USA) that it was in fact real!) which helps to make it the creepy film that it is. The acting is top notch. As the actors lived out in those woods for 8 days with ever decreasing rations and no one else to talk to they really ...

Prepare to be scared, or not as the case may be

Advantages: Cleverly made, plays with your mind, superb acting (real fear conveyed)
Disadvantages: If you don't have a good imagination and like blood and gore, it will be a big disappointment, shaky camcorder type filming

...add my twopenneth!! When the BWP first came out, it interested me, because they gave the impression in the media, that it was a true story. I don't go to the cinema, as a rule, so when my sister came back and said she walked out half way through, I decided against it. However, a year later I was still intrigued......I therefore bought the film online from a ex-rental video company and settled down to watch it, one Saturday afternoon in November. ...
...is the way in which it is filmed using a camcorder. It really gives the impression that it is private video footage. It is slow to get into and can make you feel quite nauseous with all the camera movement. The suspense starts to build when the students start finding twigs shaped as a hangman and piles of rocks. The acting is excellent.....as they start to get more and more scared and lost, you can sense their terror. I read that the film wasn't ...

Too much hype

Advantages: Orginal movie, filmed documentary style and very realistic
Disadvantages: Camera work is very frustrating in places

...to see this film at the cinema there was a lot of hype about this film in the media, and I was quite excited about seeing it. Right from the start the film seems real, and that is the effect the directors went for, they wanted to make the film as realistic as possible, and it is. At one point I actually asked the person sitting next to me 'is this actaully real?' They replied 'I'm not sure.' The way the movie is filmed is what makes it so real. It ...
...set out into the woods in search of the Blair Witch. It is all filmed 'home-video' style, with no special effects and no expensive cameras or lighting effects etc. Another thing that makes this film special is that is quite scary, but you don't actually ever see any witches, monsters, violence and theres no spooky background music, and this is very unusual for a horror movie. One thing I didn't like about this film is that sometimes the camera ...

Advantages: scarey
Disadvantages: don't watch it alone

...truly unnerving, this is not the film to watch on your own get the girlfriend/ boyfriend round and cuddle up with them. There is no way they will want to go home alone so you might even get lucky. The film is cleverly done in a documentary style and explains at the beginning that what you are about to watch is footage found after the filmakers disappearance. The film is very engaging altho' I found the adolescent American language did start to annoy ...
...the finale I was so engrossed it had ceased to worry me. The whole film works by using your imagination so if you want to see blood and gore don't even bother but if you possess an imagination then this film is for you. The final scene is very clever and made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and had me reaching for the light switch. ...

Advantages: Innovative directing style
Disadvantages: Too overhyped

Well, after all the hype and TV specials, The Blair Witch Project finally hit the UK shores, riding on a big wave of media attention and raving reviews, we were right to be expecting something special. . So was it worth wait? Welllll.....no.. The BWP is yet another victim of the media hype machine, failing almost completely to live up to its reputation. The hyped emotional resonance succeeds only coming through in very few points in the film, ...
...hysterical hissy fits. As the movie goes on we begin to feel sorry for the characters, not due to the terror brought on by the Blair Witch, but having to put up with the nauseating Heather. The movie stumbles along for around 40 minutes before we are treated to any remotely "spooky" moments, moments that fail to scare, and are classic cliche. The film makers idea of terrifying equating to mysterious bundles of wood appearing amongst rustling ...

The Blair Hype Project

Advantages: The film builds up the tension very well
Disadvantages: Heather Donahue's voice can be a bit annoying at times

...After all, if you know the plot and the ending it just spoils the atmosphere being built up so cleverly within the film. Luckily, I managed to avoid most of the publicity before watching it (a difficult task in itself!). Without giving too much away the plot centres around 3 students who make a documentary on the myth of the Blair Witch. It has to be said that the 3 students are video freaks. Absolutely everything is video'd. Even when they are scared ...
...to video myself! Anyway, the video footage is recovered one year after the students go missing and we, the audience, see this video footage. In this day an age of movies costing mega money with incredible special effects it is refreshing to see a movie that successfully builds the tension up with just a damn good story line. ...

Thinking about it is scary!

Advantages: Loads of mental fear
Disadvantages: Shaky camera can get annoying

One of the most hyped films in history I think this will go down in the history books as. Admittidly this has to be one of the most clever and original films ever made. Instead of showing the story from an outsiders point of View, The Blair Witch Project shows the story from the point of view of 3 filmakers doing A documentry on the Burkitsville murders supposed to have been commited by The Blair Witch. The 3 Filmakers talk to various people in the ...
...that tell them that the children that were murdered were taken into the forest to a house to be tortured and murdered. The fisherman tell the Filmmakers that they can follow an old logging trail into the forest to the scene of the murders. Of course the filmmakers follow the trail into the forest and get lost. What follows is one of the most terrifying experiences ever. If you really sit down and think about the whole scenario it can really make ...

WELL WE ALL BELIEVED THE HYPE

Advantages: IT WASNT LONGER
Disadvantages: I ACTUALLY BOUGHT IT

The Blair Witch Project With all of the hype surrounding the release of this film, including the huge coverage on the Internet and television, I was really expecting my socks to have been blown off, and not being able to sleep for weeks without the light on. That will teach me to believe hype! In my opinion it was 77minutes of complete drivel, which I could well have done with not seeing. The three principle actors/actresses were wooden to say ...
...actors I would have bludgeoned the woman to death, with all of that incessant, crying, screaming and shouting, that she so skilfully mastered throughout the film. The film is basically the supposedly true story of three American film students who go into the woods, near a town called Blair to do a documentary on a supposed witch that supposedly lives there. The get murdered one by one, with not apparent perpetrator of the crime. The footage of the ...

Lionel Blair is scarier

Advantages: The last ten seconds
Disadvantages: No script

Well the much-vaunted hype kept me excited for the first fifteen minutes and then things started to go badly pear shaped. Everyone knows the 'story' by now, so I won't dwell on that, but has there ever been a better argument for the importance of script writers than the improvisation that is BWP? I suspect that if you were to break down the scene frame by frame you'd find that a good twenty percent is shots of leaves on the ground. Improvisation ...
...were investigating ALL the sites of the Blair witch killings why is that they didn't go straight to the house where the murders took place right away? And why did three quarters of what they filmed consist of them arguing? Surely they'd have been too scared of being eaten by bears or starving to death to stop and film their petty arguments? And what arguments? An hour into the film I suspect most of the audience were baying for the witch to appear ...
